Baltimore, MD - Feb. 29, 2024 - The report exposes that a Baltimore City non-profit misused over $129,000 in ARPA funding. The organization in question is the Lazarus Rite Foundation, led by Christopher Ervin, contracted for Mayor Brandon Scott’s Clean Corp initiative. The funding was meant for city cleaning efforts, but was instead used for unrelated business expenses and projects. Inspector General Isabel Cumming found that the funds were also used for unapproved expenditures. Despite efforts to recoup the loss, Lazarus Rite claims inability to repay. The Annapolis Police Department told the Associated Press its offers were called to assist the Maryland Capitol Police after somebody called in an anonymous threat sometime Thursday. Officers had not found any suspicious activity by 6 p.m.

"They need to be removed," insisted Wendell Freeman, a Democratic vying for the mayor's seat.
"I think we need to rethink where we place these," said former mayor Sheila Dixon, who's also vying to regain the city's top job.
Bike lanes have come under fire recently in communities where residents insist they had no input.
In some neighborhoods, bike lanes have replaced vehicular lanes creating blocks of congested traffic.
"We really do need to have some balance," said Republican Shannon Wright who's also vying for the mayor's seat.

New York Attorney General Letitia James said she is investigating the recent cell service outage that hit thousands of AT&T customers last week.
"Americans rely on cell service providers for consistent and reliable service to help them with nearly every aspect of their daily lives," James said. "Nationwide outages are not just an inconvenience, they can be dangerous, and it's critical that we protect consumers when an outage occurs."
James encouraged affected New Yorkers to file a complaint with her office. James said her office will investigate the causes of the outage as well as AT&T's response.

A survey conducted by the Anti-Defamation League's Anti-Semitism Research Center found that the number of Americans who hold antisemitic opinions has increased to 24 percent, a rise from 20 percent in 2022.
According to the data, 27 percent of Americans think it is acceptable, at least to some extent, for a close family member to support Hamas, and 24 percent of Americans have a friend or close family member who does not like Jews.
Overall, more than 42 percent of Americans have friends or family members who do not like Jews or who believe that it is socially acceptable for a close family member to support Hamas.
