Two weeks ago, a New York judge ordered Donald Trump to pay a huge penalty of $355 million plus interest — a grand total of more than $450 million — after finding him liable for fraudulently inflating his wealth. But now that it’s time to produce such an amount, Trump’s legal team is undercutting both his and their own claims about his ability to do so. In a filing Wednesday, Trump’s lawyers asked for a delay and offered to post a bond of just $100 million rather than the full amount. They called the full amount a “facially absurd” judgment and added that its terms preventing him from obtaining loans “make it impossible to secure and post a complete bond.” Posting cash or a bond in the full amount is required with...
A federal judge has blocked Texas from enforcing a new law that would make illegal immigration a state crime. Federal judge David Ezra on Thursday granted a preliminary injunction that will block Texas' SB4 from taking effect next week. The law would allow state authorities to arrest and jail illegal immigrants, and would give state judges the power to order deportations.  In his ruling, the judge wrote that states "may not exercise immigration enforcement power except as authorized by the federal government."

We continue to work day and night to achieve that outcome.” The IDF on Thursday reported that as aid trucks were brought into northern Gaza on Thursday morning, Gaza...
With Purim approaching, the Pesach travel season is just around the corner. Tens of thousands of US citizens who reside in Israel may be considering traveling Stateside to visit family for the holiday. However, it’s crucial for them to ensure they have the proper travel documents in hand. Earlier this month, Chaim V’Chessed hosted a unique passport event in collaboration with the US Embassy. Embassy staff went above and beyond by assisting US citizens who recently welcomed newborns.  Families gathered at Chaim V’Chessed offices in Har Chotzvim for a streamlined process to apply for their infants’ first-time passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad within the comfort of their community.  In advance of Pesach, the US Embassy continues to ex...

A new proposal for a bill that would end the blanket exemption given to Charedim should only be promoted with the consent of all of the parties in the coalition, including the haredi parties themselves, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said in a statement to the press on Wednesday evening. The speech was Gallant's first public address on the issue after a series of legal, legislative, and security demands brought it to the fore earlier this month. Gallant said that there was a "real and direct" need to lengthen the service of mandatory and reserve IDF soldiers but that "the war has proven that everyone must enter under the stretcher." Insights From a “Speaking Fast” I'm not usually one for joining initiatives, but this past Thursday was an exception. I encountered an incredibly heartfelt call from the families of the captives, supported by rabbis, urging a taanit dibbur, an hour without mundane speech, only Torah study and prayer. In response, I shut down my electronic devices and picked up Mesillat Yesharim, a classic mussar text by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto, the Ramchal. I delved into a special edition annotated with personal reflections and interpretations written by the late Hadar Goldin, whose body is still being held by Hamas in Gaza. The Ramchal articulates in his preface that although people grasp the truth, the hustle of life often leaves them with little energy to live by it. He emphasized...
