Maryland Transit Administration officials revealed that Light Rail services will be suspended effective Friday.
Officials held a news conference at 5:30 p.m. Thursday to officially announce the suspension.
“The decision to suspend service is based on two issues. First, we’re discovered that high voltage conduits on our vehicles have been punctured. This was discovered as a result of inspections following a fire event on Oct. 21,” MTA administrator Holly Arnold said.
The MTA also found issues with the cables that connect Light Rail cars. Those cables have caused six smoke events since Nov. 2021, Arnold said.
Follow-up inspections assessments determined that further inspection was needed of the entire Light Rail fleet.

The United States has not given Israel a firm deadline to end major combat operations against Hamas in Gaza, and if the war ended now, the group would continue to pose a threat, White House national security aide Jon Finer said on Thursday, according to Reuters.
