Former President Donald Trump continues to skip the primary debates, opting to meet auto industry workers in the highly contended state of Michigan Republican U.S. presidential candidates sparred at the second GOP primary debate on Wednesday night, all of whom slammed frontrunner and former president, Donald Trump, for another no-show. "You're ducking these things, and let me tell you what's going to happen. You keep doing that, no one up here is gonna call you Donald Trump anymore. We're gonna call you a Donald Duck," former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said, receiving boos in response. Christie faced off against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, political newcomer Vivek Ramaswamy, former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, Trump's vice president Mike Pence, South Carol...
Israel is creating a national plan to tackle the benefits and dangers posed by artificial intelligence, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  “For several months now I have been formulating a national plan,” Netanyahu told the government at its weekly meeting on Wednesday. “Soon I will appoint a project manager on the subject and I will also submit the national plan to the Government and the public,” he explained. Making Israel third in the world for AI “Artificial intelligence is an area that is much stronger than cyber, immeasurably stronger than cyber, and we have set the goal of turning the State of Israel into the number three country in the world in this field, a very ambitious goal,” Netanyahu said. Jerusalem District Court Judge Aryeh Romanov has accepted the petition submitted about two weeks ago by the Me'uchadim municipal party led by Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem Aryeh King against the system of free shuttles on Shabbat operated by the city's Hitorerut party. The judge ordered an immediate end to the operation of the shuttles and that King be paid NIS 7,500 for legal expenses. "After weighing these competing considerations against each other, I came to the general conclusion that the considerations supporting the acceptance of the petition outweigh the considerations supporting its rejection. The result is that I decide to accept the petition and I order the respondent to immediately stop operating shuttles on Shabbat for free," stated the judge. Judge Romanov also noted...
A partial government shutdown is days away as lawmakers remain divided over how to manage out of control spending in Washington. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, (R) Tennessee, joined The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat to break it down. “There are some measures that we would want to see that are not included. What we need to realize is the House is where the spending measures began and it would be a very good thing for the House to send to us a measure to work from,” she said. “They've had all year to work on the spending bills and haven't done it.” On Tuesday, the Senate did advance a continuing resolution to keep the government funded while it continues to hashing out a budget. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy says it won't pass the House and he won't...
Republicans have insisted for months that they have the grounds to launch impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden. On Thursday, they will begin formally making their case to the public and their skeptical colleagues in the Senate. The chairmen of Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means will hold the opening hearing of their impeachment inquiry by reviewing the constitutional and legal questions surrounding their investigation of Biden and what they say are links to his son Hunter's overseas businesses.
Based on the evidence, Congress has a duty to open an impeachment inquiry into President Biden's corruption," Rep. James Comer, the Oversight chairman, said in a statement this week.
Comer added that the committee plans t...
Today (Thursday) the Ministries of Defense of Israel and Germany signed a historic agreement for the delivery of the “Arrow-3” system to Germany - an agreement that amounts to $3.5 billion - the greatest to date. On this occasion, a celebratory ceremony was held at the German Ministry of Defense in Berlin, hosted by Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius. At the onset of the ceremony, the Ministers signed a joint declaration expressing their shared commitment to strengthening defense ties between their countries. This was followed by a brief signing ceremony during which the Director General of the Israel Ministry of Defense Eyal Zamir, and the Director-General of the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Annette Lehnigk-Emden, signed the letter of commitment necessary to proc...
In April 2021, then-Interior Minister Aryeh Deri initiated a program in which valuable coupons for food and other goods in supermarkets were distributed to underprivileged residents of Israel. Any resident receiving a discount on arnona (property tax) was automatically eligible for this program. At the time, Chaim V’Chessed reported that non-citizens who were residents of Israel and met the program’s criteria; i.e. they received arnona discounts – were originally prohibited from receiving these coupons, despite seemingly being eligible. Chaim V’Chessed interfaced extensively at the time with Interior Ministry officials. When these pleas fell upon deaf ears, the organization was forced to engage a top-flight law firm who sent a strongly-worded missive to t...
The Senate unanimously passed a resolution late Wednesday formalizing business attire as the proper dress code while on the floor of the chamber following bipartisan backlash, after Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., quietly relaxed dress requirements last week that allowed Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., to continue to wear hooded sweatshirts and gym shorts. The bipartisan bill by Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, requires that members abide by a dress when on the Senate floor.  The new written rules include a coat, tie, and slacks for men. The resolution does not detail dress codes for women members. In his remarks Wednesday Schumer said that an official dress code is "the right path forward." "Though we’ve nev...

In recent years, the Chabad community of Baltimore has seen a population boom, with new families moving in every year. The city also boasts a large, thriving frum community, with many mosdos, schools, and yeshivos. “Baltimore has a rich Lubavitch history dating back to 1889,” head shliach Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan told Anash.org for an article on the Baltimore community. “Since the establishment of the yeshiva t...
Baltimore, MD - Sept. 27, 2023 - Mrs. Reva Gold, a’h, was "our" secretary only as a side gig. Her primary job, and the task she took most seriously, was ensuring that every student had an on-site grandmother. How many times a day did she get up to get one of "her boys" some pretzels for a midday snack? How many hours spent sewing ripped pants and buttons back onto shirts? How many fights did she break up with her firm words but kind smile? She never limited herself to her "job description". If she saw an untucked shirt, she wouldn't and couldn't allow you to walk around like that. If you needed a reminder of what a Ben Torah should look like or how a yid is supposed to talk and act, she was right there to refresh your memory. She knew each and every one of us by name...
The Yom Kippur war merged tragedy and triumph, leaving us in a confusing state of sorrow mixed with joy. Initially stunned by a surprise attack, we courageously turned the tide, achieving daring victories on two fronts. Previous wars were easier to quantify and to comprehend. The Yom Kippur war was more puzzling, and still defies simple classification. It is even more difficult to distill the religious meaning of this war. The War of 1948 established the first sovereign Jewish state in 1900 years. The unintended consequences of the Six-Day war returned us to our Biblical homeland and reunified Jerusalem. The hand of Hashem was readily apparent in each conflict. Identifying the religious meaning of the Yom Kippur war is more challenging. This traumatic war didn’t reshape our borders...
GE Electric Range - Model JB258 Baltimore, MD - Sept. 27, 2023  -   While GE appliances are not certified by STAR-K, we are providing this guidance as a service to consumers who may own this model. In the course of recent STAR-K appliance lab testing, it has come to our attention that the GE Model JB258 electric oven has a serious issue with its uncertified Sabbath Mode feature. During testing, the electric heating element began to dim immediately when the oven door was opened. HOW TO TEST: Consumers may check whether they have this problem by conducting the following test: Put the oven in Sabbath Mode. Wait until the electric heating element glows FULL RED. (We suggest turning off the kitchen light to better see the glow.) Open the oven door and count how many...
Roughly one-third of Saudi Arabian citizens would approve of cooperation with Israeli technology companies as an initial step toward normalization with the Jewish state, according to a study published by the Washington Institute on Sept. 18. The participants of the study were asked to express their degree of support for potential unilateral steps the kingdom could take toward normalizing relations with Israel. The study comes amid a concerted effort by the United States, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Israel to reach a tripartite deal that would involve defense guarantees from the U.S. and a civilian nuclear program for Saudi Arabia in exchange for diplomatic relations with Israel. While an increase in business ties received some support, other steps proved very u...
