The FBI needs the public’s help locating Roy C. McGrath and is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Officials say an arrest warrant has been issued for Governor Larry Hogan's former chief of staff after he failed to appear in Baltimore for trial on March 13, 2023. McGrath is now a fugitive and considered an international flight risk, according to the FBI. On October 5, 2021, McGrath was indicted in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland for violations of wire fraud and theft or bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds. During his October 2021 court appearance, McGrath entered a plea of not guilty on all charges and was released pre-trial on the condition that he appear at all scheduled court dates. On June ...

In a change of events, it looks as if the contaminated water from the recent Ohio train derailment won't be treated through the Baltimore Clean Harbors plant. Charles Heart, general manager of Clean Harbors, told 11 News Tuesday morning that the company will not take the water from the Ohio train derailment site without approval from officials. Multiple Baltimore City and County officials have expressed their thoughts on the possible treatment in Maryland's system, calling it a potential environmental hazard. Baltimore County Executive, Johnny Olszewski, issued the following statement: “The health and safety of Baltimore County residents and our waterways remains a top priority, which was why we supported efforts to prevent the discharge of treated materials into o...

I was a young teenager when I began to keep kosher.  As Pesach drew near, my dear parents thought it would be much easier for me to observe Pesach according to halacha with my uncle, Amos Guetta, in Rome. And so I arrived at the home of Amos and Smadar and their daughters, was introduced to the Jewish community of Rome, and attended services at Beit El, their Tripolitanian synagogue. Seder night was full of their customs and the following night there was a second Seder, as is done in the Diaspora. It was the first Pesach when I went an entire week without eating chametz.Last night I returned to the same synagogue to speak. It was not in the plans of that girl from Israel to return here one day and deliver a Torah talk, but now I had come full circle.I began by thanking the members of ...
Baltimore, MD - Mar. 27, 2023 - Reposted upon request:Baltimore, MD - Mar. 26, 2022 - Kashering is certainly one of the most critical aspects of preparation for Pesach. To many, the process may seem daunting for a variety of reasons: It is not something people do regularly, there are serious safety risks involved in handling hot items and boiling water, and potential to damage the kitchen. Also, if not accomplished correctly, there is a risk that after all the work is done, with hot water running all over the place, the kitchen may not actually be really kosher for Pesach! However, it really does not need to be that difficult and with a little know-how and effort, most people can be capable of kashering their kitchen. For a full step-by-step guide to proper kashering procedures, consult ...
On Tuesday, the Knesset passed the Chametz Law in its second and final readings, restoring the situation to the way it was before the Supreme Court intervened several years ago, prohibiting hospital directors from hanging signs asking people not to bring Chametz onto the premises during Pesach. Pesach  this year begins next Wednesday at sundown. 48 MKs voted in favor of the law, with 43 opposing. Likud MK Idit Silman submitted the law; for her, it was a "closing of the circle," as the issue of the Chametz Law proved the last straw for her, prompting her resignation from the Bennett-Lapid government when she was still a member of the Yamina party and bringing the government down. "All that we are doing with this law is protecting the Jewish identity of the State of Israel," Silman s...
A group of left-wing activists who organized protests against the now-frozen judicial reforms have vowed to bring Chametz into hospitals on Pesach to protest the passage of the 'Chametz Law' on Tuesday. "The trembling tyrant and his draft evaders have now sneakily passed in the third reading the law prohibiting the bringing of Chametz into hospitals on Pesach," attacked the organizers. "Therefore, during Pesach, our people, as well as thousands from the general public, will bring Chametz into the hospitals in a variety of ways, take pictures and upload them to social networks," they stated. They all make it clear that the demonstrations against the judicial reforms will not stop even after Prime Minister Netanyahu's announcement that the judicial reforms legislation would...
Dozens of Arab terrorists rioted for hours on Monday night on the main road leading through the town of Huwara in Samaria, the setting for three shooting attacks in the past few months, one of which was fatal in the cases of Hallel and Yagel Yaniv Hy"d. Multiple Jewish-owned cars driving through Huwara in order to access their homes were targeted by Arabs throwing rocks. One driver, Yaakov, is a volunteer with United Hatzalah who lives in the area and was making his way to the Tapuah Junction when he found himself under attack. Dozens of rioters surrounded his vehicle and began to hurl rocks at the car. One hit the windshield, which shattered. Yaakov was forced to stop his car. He reported the attack to security forces and then documented it on his phone. "Just got hit by a rock in ...

I was shocked to read that people in Israel can gain as much as 6-7 kilograms (13-15 pounds) over the Passover holiday.  What bothered me more however was seeing statistics decades ago about the amount of cardiac calls that Magen David Adom has to deal with before and during Passover.  The most of any two week period in any given year.  None of this has to be! There is NO mutual exclusivity here.  One can observe Pesach fully with all of its laws and customs and not damage one’s health.  As a matter of fact, you can even use this wonderful period of of family time to enhance your health. Remember that one of the aspects of lifestyle medicine integral to health is social integration as well as relaxation and de-stressing.  By now you have it all down to ...

City officials may have found a way to stop the discharge of toxic waste from the Ohio train derailment into Baltimore's system. Some local elected officials and state lawmakers are trying to prevent the treatment and discharge of the material into the Back River. Thirty-eight cars of a Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous materials derailed on Feb. 28 in eastern Ohio. The Associated Press reported that half of the almost 5,000 residents of East Palestine, Ohio, had to evacuate for days when responders intentionally burned toxic chemicals in some of the derailed cars to prevent an uncontrolled explosion, leaving residents with lingering health concerns.
