Approval of President Joe Biden has dipped slightly since a month ago, nearing the lowest point of his presidency as his administration tries to project a sense of stability while confronting a pair of bank failures and inflation that remains stubbornly high. That’s according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, which shows there have been modest fluctuations in support for Biden over the past several months. The president notched an approval rating of 38% in the new poll, after 45% said they approved in February and 41% in January. His ratings hit their lowest point of his presidency last July, at 36%, as the full weight of rising gasoline, food and other costs began to hit U.S. households. In recent...
The CEO of TikTok made a rare public appearance Thursday before a U.S. Congressional committee, where he faced a grilling on data security and user safety while he makes his own case for why the hugely popular video-sharing app shouldn’t be banned. Shou Zi Chew’s testimony comes at a crucial time for the company, which has acquired 150 million American users but is under increasing pressure from U.S. officials. TikTok and its parent company ByteDance have been swept up in a wider geopolitical battle between Beijing and Washington over trade and technology. In her opening statement, Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a Republican, assailed the social platform’s trustworthiness because of its close ties to Beijing. “Mr. Chew, you are here because the American ...
With extremism and antisemitism on the rise across Florida, community leaders are putting their focus back on Holocaust education. Florida has long required that students be taught about the Holocaust inside the classroom but some feel more can be done to make the material more tangible for students. WPEC's Lena Salzbank went to Florida Atlantic University and found many college students couldn't answer simple questions about the Holocaust. Approximately 6 million European Jews and at least 5 million prisoners of war were killed in extermination camps under the rule of Adolf Hitler, Y'sh. That's why Ari Fixler with the Amud Aish Memorial Museum says he wants to see a Holocaust museum in Palm Beach County.
There needs to be something they c...

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Wednesday that the risk of a nuclear clash was at its highest level in decades, warning that Moscow was in a "de-facto" open conflict with Washington over the war in Ukraine. Relations between Russia and the United States, long strained, have worsened even further since Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year. In February, Moscow pulled out of the New START nuclear arms reduction treaty with Washington. Speaking at an event entitled "A World Without START: What's Next," Ryabkov said there was "no question" of Russia restoring the treaty for now, criticizing what he called Washington's "hostile course" towards Moscow. "I wouldn't want to dive into a discussion about whether the likelihood of a nuclear c...
In a rare move, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, was summoned on Tuesday for a meeting with Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman. The meeting concerned the Knesset’s approval of the law repealing the Disengagement in northern Samaria, Deputy State Department spokesman Vedant Patel said in a statement. “The Deputy Secretary conveyed US concern regarding legislation passed by the Israeli Knesset rescinding important aspects of the 2005 Disengagement Law, including the prohibition on establishing settlements in the northern West Bank,” said Patel. “They also discussed the importance of all parties refraining from actions or rhetoric that could further inflame tensions leading into the Ramadan, Passover, and Easter holidays...
In a new study published today in the journal Nature, a team of scientists led by researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem discovered that changes in the processing of RNA molecules – and not genetic changes in the DNA – drive pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) tumors to become metastatic. This multinational study was conducted in collaboration with Sheba Medical Center and Bar Ilan University in Israel, Cornell University and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in the United States, and Toronto University in Canada. The study was led by doctoral student Amina Jbara of Professor Rotem Karni’s research group at the Hebrew University Faculty of Medicine. Evaluating roughly four hundred PDA tumor samples, both non-metastatic and metastatic, the rese...
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said on Wednesday that the terror organization’s forces would "respond immediately if Israel starts a war" over the explosion in northern Israel that wounded a 21-year-old man last week, i24NEWS reported. His comments came a week after the explosion of the roadside bomb on Highway 65, near Megiddo Junction. While Israeli authorities initially considered the possibility that the bombing was crime-related, it later became apparent the incident was an act of terror. The IDF revealed this week that the terrorist crossed the border from Lebanon into Israel using a ladder. A day after the attack, a hitherto unknown terrorist group, calling itself Galilee Forces – the Lone Wolves, claimed responsibility for the attack....
Israel told the Biden administration and several European countries that Iran would be entering dangerous territory that could trigger an Israeli military strike if it enriches uranium above the 60% level, a senior Israeli official told Axios’ Barak Ravid on Wednesday. Increasingly concerned about advances in Iran's nuclear program, Israel has in recent months ramped up its private and public threats of military action against Tehran in an apparent attempt to deter the country from escalating its nuclear program even further, according to Israeli officials. Iran has amassed 87.5 kilograms of 60% enriched uranium, according to an International Atomic Energy Agency report from late February. Experts say that if that uranium is enriched to 90% weapons grade, it would be...
A dangerous drug mixture being sold on the streets has caught the attention of federal authorities and agencies in Maryland. Overdose awareness advocates are warning people about a street drug poisoning called Xylazine. Experts say they are seeing a major spike in overdose due to this substance. Xylazine also known as tranq, is a non-opioid animal tranquilizer that's not approved for human use, but is found in 90 percent of street drugs. The National Institute of Drug abuse reported, Xylazine is a central nervous system depressant that slows people's breathing and heart rate. Additionally those who inject the substance can develop life threatening burn like bruises on the skin. Xylazine combined with other drugs have also been known to put people in comas, or cause overdose ...
It’s not growing or harvesting season yet, so the hemp fields are bare. But inside a warehouse, there is plenty of product, and each bud means business, but according to some hemp industry leaders, their business could be at risk. Nicholas Patrick, owner of Embrace CBD Wellness, said he got into the hemp industry after going through chemotherapy in 2012 and realized the plant helped him with nausea and cope with the stress of fighting cancer. “I started using CBD flower and smoking CBD flower when I was going through all that stuff,” Patrick said. Despite the budding hemp industry, Patrick said language in the adult-use cannabis industry legislation being debated in Annapolis could snuff out hemp’s future. In November 2022, voters in Maryland approved legal ...
