President Biden slammed antisemitism last week at a White House-hosted “United We Stand” summit against hate crimes, but he is being accused by some Orthodox Jewish leaders of excluding them from the event.
The Rev. Al Sharpton requested the summit after the May massacre of 10 black shoppers in Buffalo, and it brought together hundreds of activists and community leaders from minority groups. But Orthodox Jews, who suffer a large number of hate crimes, struggled to make the cut.

Agudath Israel of California hails the passage of AB 1664,The California Nonprofit Security Bill. The bill makes several important changes to the state’s nonprofit security grant program including removing the 2025 sunset, and increasing the maximum grant level from $200,000 to $500,000 per institution. The bill originally included a unique clause that would have allowed nonprofit communal organizations to obtain grants for communal security infrastructure such as patrol vehicles, communal communications equipment, and training for institutions and volunteers. Unfortunately that clause was removed after the bill initially cleared the Legislature at the behest of the Governor’s office. Canada's federal government will likely drop its COVID-19 vaccine requirement for people entering Canada at the end of the month, a government source said on Tuesday.
The source, who was not authorized to speak on the record, said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was "likely" to drop the vaccination requirement on Sept 30. The Globe and Mail newspaper reported the news earlier on Tuesday.
Canada will also drop random coronavirus testing on the same day, and make it optional to use its ArriveCAN app, where travelers have been required to upload their proof of vaccination, the source said.
Canadian airports faced chaos over the summer, with numerous cancellations and delays that some blamed on the country's strict COVID-19 restrictions. read more

Prime Minister Yair Lapid, today (Tuesday, 20 September 2022), during his diplomatic visit to New York, met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
This is the first meeting between a Prime Minister of Israel and a President of Türkiye since the announcement of the restoration of full diplomatic representation and the return of Ambassadors and Consuls-General to Israel and Türkiye.
Prime Minister Lapid commended the increased level of representation as well as the appointment of a new Israeli Ambassador to Türkiye, Irit Lillian.
The two leaders discussed the fight against terrorism in Israel and generally. Prime Minister Lapid thanked President Erdoğan for intelligence cooperation at the time of Iran’s attempts to carry out terrorist attacks on Turkish soil.

Rehoboth Beach Police are investigating antisemitic flyers found outside hundreds of homes.
The hateful flyers came in small bags, filled partially with corn kernels. The flyers contain messages blaming Jewish politicians for civic issues. The Rehoboth Beach Police Department says over 300 bags were distributed.
Community members are disturbed by the hate speech. Many say, this is not typical for an open and accepting community like Rehoboth Beach.
While people are dismayed by the flyers, Rabbi Sholom Vogel of the Chabad of Southern Delaware, says he plans to fight back with love and kindness.
"You cannot fight darkness with a stick. You can only light a candle and the darkness will disappear," said Vogel.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid, today (Tuesday, 20 September 2022), during his diplomatic visit to New York, met with the King of Jordan, His Majesty King Abdullah II.
This is the leaders’ second meeting since July 2022, when they met at His Majesty’s palace in Amman.

About a quarter of a million people saw Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin as she lay in state for four days at Westminster Hall in central London, according to preliminary figures released by the British government.
Members of the public wanting to pay their final respects after the queen’s death on Sept. 8 had to stand in a line – or queue – that grew so long over four days that wait times reached 24 hours at one point. The Baltimore Police Department is one step away from changing its district boundaries for the first time in decades.
On Monday, the City Council voted to move forward on a third and final reading to implement the changesBaltimore City Councilman Yitzy Schleifer commented: "This first police redistricting in 50 years is a great step forward ensuring equitable distribution of police resources. This redistricting also unifies communities into the same police districts to more effectively address crime trends."
The department's goal is to balance the workload in each district, which in turn could improve call response times.
As part of the new map, 18 neighborhoods previously divided would be reunited.
Once approved, the new boundaries could go into effect as early as next year.
