The majority of Maryland's likely voters support legalizing recreational marijuana, a new poll found. Residents will settle this debate with a referendum in the Nov. 8 general election.
Goucher College on Monday released its latest poll on recreational marijuana and other social issues affecting this election season. The pollsters found a few causes with widespread support and others with mixed reactions across Maryland.

On Tuesday afternoon, state lawmakers will question the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Human Services about stolen federal assistance benefits and recertification issues.
WMAR-2 News Mallory Sofastaii has reported extensively on thieves swiping SNAP and cash assistance benefits before families can access their funds.
According to DHS, in August, more than $178,000 in SNAP and cash assistance were reported stolen, triple the amount for the month prior. Since January 1, 2022, there's been $522,000 in reported losses. For all of 2021, $92,500 was reported stolen.

Adults under the age of 65 should be screened for anxiety disorders and all adults should be checked for depression, a government-backed panel said, as many Americans report symptoms of these mental-health conditions following the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The draft guidance released Tuesday marks the first time that the United States Preventive Services Task Force has made a recommendation on screening adults for anxiety disorders. The move comes months after the task force issued similar draft guidance for children and adolescents.

Palestinian Arab terrorists opened fire on an Israeli military base in Samaria Tuesday morning.
The attack occurred at the Salem base in northern Samaria, when terrorists fire multiple shots at the base, hitting a dirt road inside the complex.
No injuries were reported in the shooting.
Israeli Border Police officers stationed at the base reported hearing the gun shots. Military investigators later found multiple bullet impacts in a dirt road.
IDF soldiers and Border Police officers were dispatched to conduct searches of the surrounding area in an effort to apprehend the terrorists responsible for the shooting.

A New York judge says Hezbollah’s actions were a violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act
A US court ordered the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah to pay $111 million in damages to a group of Americans who sued, saying they were wounded by the Islamist movement’s rockets during the 2006 war with Israel.
The case was brought under the US Anti-Terrorism Act and alleged that Hezbollah caused the plaintiffs physical and emotional injury and damaged their property, AP News reported.
Such civil lawsuits brought against militant groups are difficult to enforce, but Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, one of the lawyers representing the plaintiffs, said it was an important legal victory against the Iran-backed group.

Israel's prime minister also scheduled to meet with Turkish president on sidelines of UN General Assembly
Israel's Prime Minister Yair Lapid is scheduled to meet with Jordan's King Abdullah II in New York on Tuesday amid continuing unrest in the West Bank.
The two leaders will meet on the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General.
It will be the second meeting between them since Lapid took office in July.

Israel-Bahrain trade in 2021 totaled just $7.5 million, while Israel-UAE trade could reach $10 billion by 2027
Israel and Bahrain began negotiating a free trade agreement, Israel's Economy Ministry said Tuesday.
The Jewish state normalized diplomatic relations with the Gulf Arab state and its neighbor the United Arab Emirates two years ago under the US-brokered Abraham Accords, which hit its two-year anniversary last week.
While economic ties with the UAE took off, Israel's trade with Bahrain lagged far behind.
In May, Israel forged a free trade deal with the UAE – its first with an Arab country – that officials estimate will increase trade from $1.2 billion to $10 billion in five years.

Israel's population is estimated at 9,593,000, according to Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) data released on Tuesday, just days before Rosh Hashanah
According to forecasts, the population of the Jewish state should reach approximately 10 million inhabitants by the end of 2024, 15 million by 2049, and 20 million at the end of 2065.

Israel has begun seizing millions of shekels that were transferred by the Palestinian Authority to the private bank accounts of terrorists who were involved in severe terror attacks.
According to a report by Israel Hayom, Defense Minister Benny Gantz signed a seizure order on approximately ten million NIS of funds that were transferred to the terrorists. The orders were signed as part of a larger effort by the Ministry of Defense to fight against terror organizations and the regular payments made by the Palestinian Authority to security prisoners who were involved in terrorist operations.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) lashed out at Israel in a recent interview with Al Jazeera, accusing the Jewish state of a policy of apartheid towards Palestinian Arabs.

Goucher College released its latest political poll Monday morning, which shows that Democratic candidate Wes Moore has a fairly large lead over the Republican candidate, Dan Cox.
Of those surveyed, 53 percent said they would vote for Moore if the election were today, compared to 31 percent who said they would vote for Cox. 4 percent said they would vote for Libertarian candidate David Lasher and 2 percent said Green Party candidate Nancy Wallace.
In other state races, 53 percent of those surveyed said they would vote for Democratic candidate Anthony Brown, compared to 31 percent for Republican candidate Michael Peroutka. 15 percent are undecided.
