Snow will blanket Maryland Sunday afternoon. By early evening, forecasters say precipitation will shift to freezing rain and sleet along the Interstate 95 corridor.
Because temperatures are below freezing, forecasters say snow is expected to accumulate quickly.
Gov. Larry Hogan asked people to stay off the roads.
"Winter weather is expected to bring snowfall to much of the state this afternoon," Hogan said in a statement Sunday morning. He said the National Weather Service predicts up to an inch of snow an hour as a line of rain and snow pushes southeast to northwest.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for parts Western Maryland for heavy snow. For the Baltimore area, there's a winter weather advisory for mixed precipitation. Both take effect Sunday through Monday morning.

Three remaining hostages at a Texas temple were "out alive and safe," ending an ordeal that began hours earlier, according to a Twitter message late Saturday from Gov. Greg Abbott.
"Prayers answered," Abbott wrote. "All hostages are out alive and safe."
Just about two hours earlier, a single hostage had been freed, unharmed, giving authorities hope that the situation would end without a tragedy.

An armed man holding a rabbi and congregants hostage at a Texas Reform temple is demanding that US authorities release his convicted terrorist sister, the NY Post reports.
Muhammad Siddiqui is claiming to be the brother of Pakistani neuroscientist Aafia Siddiqui, who was convicted in Manhattan federal court in 2010 of trying to kill US authorities in Afghanistan. She is currently serving an 86-year prison sentence at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell in nearby Fort-Worth, according to public records.
The man told responders that “if anyone tries to enter this building, I’m telling you … everyone will die,” the Daily Mail reported.

Pregnant women who are unvaccinated against the coronavirus are not only more likely to be hospitalized for covid-19, but also at more risk of seeing their newborns die less than a month after birth, according to a peer-reviewed study in Scotland that was published Thursday.
The study was released in Nature Medicine, a monthly journal. The authors looked at more than 144,000 pregnancy records going back to March 2020, when the first coronavirus case was detected in Scotland.
But the authors focused on data between December 2020 and October last year because that was when vaccine shots and tests were more widely available. During that period, the unvaccinated made up 77% of all pregnant women who were infected and more than 90% who required hospitalization and critical care.

Americans will be able to order free at-home rapid COVID-19 tests online starting Jan. 19, the White House said Friday.
The move makes available the 500 million rapid tests President Biden said his administration purchased last month.
There are some important limitations, though. Each residential address will be limited to four tests. The tests are also expected to take 7-12 days to ship once they are ordered, the White House said.
People will be able to order the tests on a new website, COVIDTests.gov, which will go live on Jan. 19. The White House is partnering with the U.S. Postal Service to ship the tests to people's homes.

I was thinking of the following question: Who is the number one fan? Is it the spectator in the stadium who is yelling the loudest? Or maybe it’s the spectator who is wearing the most face paint? Or perhaps it’s the spectator who buys the best seats? This leads me to another question. Oftentimes at a sports game, all of the fans will be given that classic foam glove that is shaped like a finger which says “#1 Fan”. Now, is it really plausible to suggest that each of the thousands of fans are all the number one fan? How is this possible? If guy A is the number one fan, how can guy B be the number one fan?

As I am privileged this week to walk, together with my wife, my son Mutti down to his chuppah, I would like to take this opportunity to share some of my personal feelings at this exciting time.
Many have the custom to stand up for the chosson and kallah as they approach the chuppah.
There is no identified source for this. Some suggest it is based on the notion of chosson domeh l'melech — a groom is compared to a king, and thus deserving of honor.
The great Talmudist, philosopher, and master teacher, the ineffable Rav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, famed Rosh Hayeshiva of Yeshiva University, pondered aloud this question. He discounted the analogy to a king since it is only after the act of kiddushin that he first becomes a 'chosson'.
