A bus full of Jewish teens celebrating Chanukkah in London, UK was attacked by a mob of violent youths who attempted to smash its windows while others made Nazi salutes. According to the UK Jewish News, police are investigating the incident. Video footage shows the young men yelling anti-Semitic abuse and threats at the open-top bus, while also attempting to smash its windows and spitting at it. Some of them also took off a shoe and hit the bus with it, which is an insult in Arab culture, as the bottom of the shoe is considered unclean. They can also be seen raising their arm in the air in what appears to be a Nazi salute. The attack happened Monday evening on Oxford Street. It was reported to the Community Security Trust, the organization tasked with providing security to the Bri...
After a threat was called in to a high school in Baltimore County, police said they determined it was not credible. While officers were investigating, they said three schools in the Essex area were placed on "lockout" status. A lockout is used during a community emergency outside the school building, according to police, who say it is a less serious measure than a lockdown. All doors are locked from the inside, and nobody is allowed to leave or enter the building without permission. Those going in must provide identification to staff, posted at the front door. Outdoor activities are suspended during a lockout, while activities inside proceed as usual. By 11:20 a.m., police reported the threat was deemed not credible. It came the day after three people were killed an...

Ukraine urged NATO to prepare economic sanctions on Russia to deter a possible invasion Russia accused Ukraine on Wednesday of deploying half of its 250,000 troops to a conflict zone, Donbass, where government forces battled Russia-backed separatists since 2014.  The Ukrainian army made improvements since 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea and Ukrainian tanks used the wrong engines and poorly-trained soldiers wore German uniforms. Military spending is now 4 percent of GDP, double what it was in 2014. America also helped out, giving $2.5 billion worth of equipment to the country, including radios, radars, and new uniforms, according to The Economist.  Ukraine also bought TB-2 Bayraktar combat-capable drones from Turkey and America sent the country Javelin missiles.

Costs and logistics are the reasons given for canceling the Baltimore City New Year’s Eve Spectacular for the second year in a row, city officials said. "As much as we would like to kick off the New Year with a fireworks celebration, after reviewing the logistics, costs and other considerations given our recent Labor Day fireworks event, the City has decided not to proceed with fireworks this New Year. We are planning on returning to a more predictable, traditional schedule in 2022 as we continue to emerge from COVID-19 and resume normal event planning," said Deputy Mayor for Community and Economic Development Ted Carter. City officials said there will still be other holiday events to attend, including the Inner Harbor ice skating rink, Candy Lane at Center Plaza, the Christma...

Besides buying vast quantities of disposable items before the Lieberman tax took effect, yeshivos are also clamping down on the number of disposables they provide for daily use. At Bais Matisyohu in Bnei Brak, each table is provided with the exact number of plates and cutlery necessary, with none left over for bochurim to take up to their rooms. Ohr Yisroel in Petach Tikvah has started using metal utensils and is introducing multiple-use plastic plates, reserving disposables for Shabbos when it is harder to wash dishes. Mishkenos Yaakov in Bnei Brak stopped placing disposable cups at its water cooler and replaced them with 15 glasses. The Strauss food company also followed the trend. After winning a concession for 50 railway refreshment stands, Strauss said ...
Twitter says it will remove private photos and videos if they are posted without a person’s consent, according to a company blog post. But Twitter announced Tuesday that it would expand its policy to include “media of private individuals without the permission of the person(s) depicted.” The new rules are effective immediately. “While our existing policies and Twitter Rules cover explicit instances of abusive behavior, this update will allow us to take action on media that is shared without any explicit abusive content, provided it’s posted w...
CNN has suspended Chris Cuomo, one of its biggest stars, a day after the release of documents that detailed his efforts to help his brother, then-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, fend off allegations of misconduct. Transcripts from the New York Attorney General’s office on Monday showed that the cable host was far more involved in the governor’s crisis-management efforts than the younger Cuomo had previously acknowledged. The network and its president, Jeff Zucker, had previously backed Cuomo for months, even as details accumulated about his role advising his brother, who eventually resigned in the wake of   harassment allegations. In May, The Post reported that Cuomo had joined conference calls to discuss how to handle the allegations. At the time, the network said it ...
