Jerusalem, Israel - July 18, 2021 - Shabbos ended in Yerushalayim, and Tisha B'Av began. Sitting on small stools in shuls, sitting on floors in the beis midrash, or on the stones and grounds around Yerushalayim, tens of thousands of people listened to Eicha.
In Independence Park, security was heavier than usual for the recitation of Eicha. Headed by Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar, the Women in Green organized and led off the 27th Walk around the Walls originating from the park.
Participating were Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Arieh King and MK Orit Strook. Hundreds of people walked quietly, solemnly, and slowly around the Jerusalem of old, past the various gates toward the Kotel, encouraged to hold Israeli flags.

United Hatzalah volunteers treated two men, one woman, and one child who were injured in two separate stoning attacks that took place near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem a short while ago.
In the first incident, a man, woman, and a one-year-old infant were lightly injured after rocks were thrown at a Jewish vehicle near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem. United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Muhammad Abid was one of the first responders at the scene and treated the Jewish family. After receiving initial treatment at the scene the family was taken to Hadassah Har Hatzofim in Jerusalem.

Near the end of the entire Six Orders of Mishnah (Uktzin 3:12), we are informed, "HaKadosh Baruch Hu did not find a vessel to hold blessing for the Jewish people greater than Shalom, as it says, 'Hashem blesses His nation with Shalom" (Tehillim 29:11). The Jewish people, writes the Bais Halevi, possess a unique capacity for unity, as a consequence of our singular relationship to Him: "Yaakov chevel nachlaso" (Devarim 32:9).
Hashem divided the nations into seventy, and assigned to each its own guiding angel. Only the Jewish people fell directly under His Providence. And because we alone are the direct outgrowth of the one true unity, Hashem, so we too have a capacity for achdus.
And to the extent that achdus is lacking, then our connection with Hashem is lacking and His Name is dimin...

When Moshe is in the midst of recounting the sin of the spies (1:29), he recounts having addressed the nation's concerns with the giants they would face in an attempt to enter Eretz Yisroel. One eats regularly and must refrain from eating and drinking by sunset.

In this week's parshah, Moshe Rabbeinu recounts our nation’s encounter with Sichone, as we came to enter Eretz Yisroel after sojourning for 40 years in the desert (2:26-30).
Sichone was a very mighty king whose territory bordered Eretz Yisroel (see Rashi 2:32 and Be’er BaSadeh, where they explain that Sichone was so mighty that they felt no need to ask the powerful giant, Oig Melech HaBashan, for any assistance). Around 1,300 people missing in one German district after heavy rains, flooding swept through area
Authorities in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate said Friday that 50 people have died in devastating floods in the western state, bringing the national death toll to at least 81, with dozens more missing.
"The number of dead has gone up to 50" from 28 in the badly hit region, a spokesman for the interior ministry of Rhineland-Palatinate, Timo Haungs, told AFP.
Heavy rains and floods lashing western Europe have also killed nine in Belgium, and many more people are missing as rising waters caused several houses to collapse on Thursday.

Friday's tally marks fourth consecutive day where number of new infections has exceeded 750
Israel on Friday recorded 855 new daily COVID-19 cases, according to Health Ministry data, marking the fourth consecutive day where the number of new infections has exceeded 750 as the country struggles to contain an outbreak of the highly contagious delta variant despite its record-setting vaccine rollout.
A total of 52 patients were listed as seriously ill with 18 people in critical condition and 17 on respirators.
The positive test rate stood at 1.52 percent out of more than 56,000 tests administered over the previous 24-hour period.
