Over the past year, the OU Advocacy Center has worked tirelessly with allies in Congress, under two presidential administrations, to play a leading role in crafting key provisions in each of the three major federal pandemic relief packages and provide billions of dollars for America’s Jewish community and charitable organizations nationwide to weather the economic hardships wrought by COVID-19. That includes $5.5 billion specifically for Jewish and other nonpublic day schools: The March 2020 COVID relief package contained $2.75 billion, the very same amount we succeeded in getting included in the relief bill passed just a few months earlier. Some new data shows young adults, known as the "Gen Z" population, are reluctant to get the COVID-19 vaccine, and that's concerning to some doctors.
University of Maryland Medical System Chief Quality Officer Dr. Faheem Younus told 11 News the average age of his hospitalized coronavirus patients has dropped about 30% since the start of the pandemic.

At first glance, there does not appear to be any connection between this week's Torah portions (Tazria-Tzara'at) and Independence Day. These Torah portions deal extensively with tzara'at. A person guilty of lashon hara (insulting, derogatory, or divisive speech) was punished with tzara'at, a condition of skin discoloration and hair loss that could ultimately infect clothes and houses, too. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A gunman killed eight people and wounded several others before killing himself in a late-night shooting at a FedEx facility near the Indianapolis airport, police said, in the latest in a spate of mass shootings after a relative lull during the pandemic.
Five people were hospitalized after the Thursday night shooting, according to police. One of them had critical injuries, police spokesperson Genae Cook said. Another two people were treated and released at the scene. FedEx said people who worked for the company were among the dead.

The city launched Thursday a dashboard called Open Checkbook on its website.

Israel attacked Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip early Friday in response to rocketfire that landed in a southern Israeli field Thursday night, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
"IDF fighter jets and aircraft recently attacked a munitions manufacturing site, a weapons smuggling tunnel and a military post belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip," the military tweeted.

Have you ever wondered how often people gossip? Thanks to a new study published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science, you will no longer be left wondering. The study found that the typical person (not you, of course!) spends about 52 minutes per day gossiping. “Gossip” in this context is defined as talking about a person who isn’t present. The study furthermore showed that the majority of the gossip – 75% – was neutral, whereas 15% was negative gossip, and the remaining 10% was positive or flattering.
You might be thinking that if only 15% of the 52 minutes a day – about 8 minutes – is spent talking negatively about others, what’s the big deal? It might seem like a small amount, but multiply this by weeks, months...

New York — Twitter on Thursday afternoon permanently suspended the account belonging to James O’Keefe, president of Project Veritas.
According to Twitter, the suspension is due to alleged violations of “manipulation and spam.”
O’Keefe’s suspension comes shortly after his group Project Veritas made headlines for exposing CNN’s agenda on tape.
Yesterday, Project veritas released a clip of a CNN staffer talking to CNN’s technical director Charles Chester, who said that CNN was responsible for getting Trump out of office.

Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines said Wednesday that U.S. intelligence agencies do not know exactly when or how COVID-19 was initially transmitted.
“The intelligence community does not know exactly where, when or how the COVID-19 virus was transmitted initially,” Haines told a Senate hearing. She noted two theories, that it emerged from human contact with infected animals or the result of a laboratory accident.
