Initial claims for unemployment benefits fell to 751,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis in the week ending Oct. 24, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
The report is the last batch of weekly jobless claims data that the Labor Department is releasing before Tuesday’s presidential election.
Initial claims decreased by 40,000 from the previous week’s revised amount of 791,000. The Labor Department initially reported last week that there had been 787,000 new claims for unemployment insurance in the week ending Oct. 17.

American citizens born in Jerusalem will now be able to list Israel as their country of birth, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Thursday, shifting U.S. policy in favor of recognizing further Israeli sovereignty over the Holy City.
Previous administrations had only allowed U.S. citizens born in Jerusalem to list the city as their country of birth, with the final status of the city expected to be decided in direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians as part of efforts to achieve a two-state solution.

Baltimore, MD - Oct. 29, 2020 - Baltimore County Police have arrested a man in connection with the October 28 burning of a well-known restaurant. David McDermott, 40 years old, from the unit block of Hawthorne Avenue, 21208 has been charged with second degree arson in a fire that destroyed Jilly’s Bar and Grill located at 1012 Reisterstown Road, 21208.
Police were dispatched for an alarm at the restaurant around 4 a.m. and when they arrived they saw the place fully engulfed in flames. Federal agencies warned that cybercriminals are unleashing a wave of data-scrambling extortion attempts against the U.S. healthcare system designed to lock up hospital information systems, which could hurt patient care just as nationwide cases of COVID-19 are spiking.
In a joint alert Wednesday, the FBI and two federal agencies warned that they had "credible information of an increased and imminent cybercrime threat to U.S. hospitals and healthcare providers." The alert said malicious groups are targeting the sector with attacks that produce "data theft and disruption of healthcare services."

One woman was reportedly decapitated and two other people were stabbed to death on Thursday following a knife attack at a church in the French city of Nice that also left several others wounded, according to multiple reports.
