More than 55 million viewers tuned in for the second and final presidential debate between President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden on Thursday night, according to overnight ratings data by Nielsen Media Research. The 55 million watching the comparatively civil event in Nashville marked a considerable decline from the first debate between the two last month, when more than 73 million tuned in. Fox News led all broadcast and cable networks with 14.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen. ABC finished second with 10.8 million total viewers, followed by NBC with 10.2 million. Legalizing marijuana in New York could help close the state’s multibillion-dollar budget deficit and aid the economic recovery effort amid the pandemic, according to Democrat Gov. The Securities and Exchange Commission will pay a record-breaking $114 million award to a whistleblower who assisted an investigation, according to the Washington Examiner. “The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced an award of over $114 million to a whistleblower whose information and assistance led to the successful enforcement of SEC and related actions,” the SEC wrote in a statement. “The $114 million award consists of an approximately $52 million award in connection with the SEC case and an approximately $62 million award arising out of the related actions by another agency.” The award eclipses the prior award of $50 million, which was handed out in June. As the 2020 presidential election enters its final week, a majority of Americans appear ready to accept the result of an exhausting campaign even if their preferred candidate loses, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found. Its latest survey, conducted from Oct. 13-20, shows that 79% of all Americans, including 59% of those who want to re-elect President Donald Trump, will accept a win by Democratic challenger Joe Biden even if they may not support a Biden presidency.
