Afiw Bkreia lives in the town of Peki’in and works as a park ranger in the national park of Nachal Amud in Israel’s Galilee. He is married with one son and is a volunteer EMT with United Hatzalah. On Tuesday, Afiw was staying late at the park to close up and make sure that all of the visitors had left, due to a recent wave of people getting stranded or lost in the park as a result of summer vacation.   Just after 5:00 p.m., Afiw was finishing up some paperwork in his office when he heard a woman screaming outside. “My baby is dead,” the woman shouted.  Afiw recounted what happened next. “When I heard the screams I ran outside and saw a woman holding a baby. She was screaming and running with him. I ran up to her. She told me that her son h...
A top federal health official is issuing a dire warning: Follow recommended coronavirus measures or risk having the worst fall in U.S. public health history. "For your country right now and for the war that we're in against COVID, I'm asking you to do four simple things: wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands and be smart about crowds," said Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "I'm not asking some of America to do it," he told WebMD. "We all gotta do it." Without following the recommendations, this could be "the worst fall, from a public health perspective, we've ever had," he said. In addition to taking measures to combat the pandemic, people should also get a flu vaccine. "By getting vaccinated, you can protect y...
Baltimore Gas and Electric has released more findings into the investigation of a row house explosion that left two dead and seven injured. The utility released a statement on Thursday morning saying that they have completed the inspection of BGE gas and electric equipment serving the 4200 block of Labyrinth Road in northwest Baltimore. According to the statement, the utility “found that all of its equipment—gas mains, gas service pipes and gas meters, as well as electric equipment—has been operating safely and was not the cause the natural gas explosion that occurred Aug. 10.” The statement also says that BGE also looked into customer-owned gas piping and appliances at the scene. The Baltimore City Fire Department and other local, state, and federal a...

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell below 1 million last week for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic started in mid-March. The latest jobless claims figures from the Labor Department, which cover the week ending August 8, show that 963,000 workers sought aid last week, pushing the total number since the shutdown began to nearly 56 million. Economists surveyed by Refinitiv expected 1.12 million new claims. The figure -- the lowest since March 14, just as the pandemic brought the economy to a grinding halt -- indicates there's still driving power behind the job market's recovery, despite fears that flare-up in COVID-19 cases and a fresh round of business closures would derail ...

Baltimore, MD - Aug. 12, 2020 - Each year, our dedicated riders who 'bike for chai' show their support for families and sick children by riding hundreds of miles to Camp Simcha, rejoicing together at the world's happiest finish line in an unparalleled celebration. This year, our international fundraiser will look and feel different. There are no crowds. No huddles of yellow and blue jerseys on the sides of the roads. No cheering dancers at Camp Simcha waiting for them as they turn the final corner. This year, Bike4Chai and our riders from TEAM BALTIMORE demonstrate their absolute selflessness by doing it anyways. By showing the world that it's not about the "pomp and circumstance" or glory of personal achievement, but about sick children in our community...
Egypt has insisted that Hamas and other terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip cease incendiary balloon attacks on Israel, fearing the situation may spiral out of control. “Senior Egyptian intelligence officials contacted leaders of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and warned them that the continued attacks on Israel could lead to an all-out military confrontation in the Gaza Strip, the sources said,” according to a report in the Jerusalem Post. There is some speculation that the leaders of the two main groups – Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) – may be invited for urgent discussions in Cairo, as Egyptian officials attempt to avert a possible war on their border. As Hashem describes the Kedusha which would surround the Mikdash where the Shechina would rest, there is a clear Tziva and change in the manner in which Korbonos were to be brought.  Until now, discretionary Korbonos could be brought anywhere at any time on what was referred to as a “Bama”.   These makeshift alters were the accepted way to bring a Korbon until such time as the Mishkan found a fixed place in Shilo.  From that point on and certainly with the building of the Beis Hamikdash, we were instructed that Korbonos could only be brought in the Mishkan or Beis Hamikdash.  What was significant about entering Eretz Yisroel that such a change was deemed necessary?  If Bama’s were good enough for Adam, Hevel, Noach, Avraham, Yitzchak, Yaakov ...
Hundreds of protesters in Portland who were arrested in the past 80 days of demonstrations will not face any charges, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced Tuesday. “The protesters are angry … and deeply frustrated with what they perceive to be structural inequities in our basic social fabric, and this frustration can escalate to levels that violate the law,” Schmidt said. “This policy acknowledges that centuries of disparate treatment of our black and brown communities have left deep wounds and that the healing process will not be easy or quick.” The policy drops charges against people who were arrested for interfering with a peace officer or parole and probation officer, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, e...
The mainstream media has largely avoided coverage of Joe Biden’s health and fitness for office, but previous Republican presidential candidates such as Ronald Reagan, John McCain, and Donald Trump didn’t receive a pass from the liberal press on the sensitive-but-crucial topic. “It’s all fair game,” Fox News contributor Dan Bongino said. “Asking the potential president of the United States to demonstrate to voters that he has the cognitive capacity to do one of the most stressful jobs in the world, isn’t an outrageous ask.” However, the mainstream media has essentially treated Biden’s health and fitness for office as off-limits. “The so-called o...
Baltimore, MD - Aug. 12, 2020 - The last three days have been sad, exhausting, stressful but most of all inspiring. The tragic explosion that left 2 constituents deceased and 7 others critically injured has brought out the absolute best in our community. I have been out on the scene for 15 hours a day coordinating resources and connecting city agencies to our constituents in need. We have been helping residents get back into their homes to retrieve medications, clothing and other essential personal items. There have been countless offers for assistance from businesses, religious institutions and people trying to do anything and everything they can to help the victims of this unfathomable incident. Today we were able to complete phase 1 of the cleanup. All debris has been remov...

The terror group’s arsenal isn't about deterring Israel, but about controlling Lebanon and bringing into the Iranian-Syrian axis, says retired Lebanese general Wehbe Katicha. (August 12, 2020 / MEMRI) Hezbollah’s weapons have nothing to do with fighting Israel or protecting Lebanon, and everything to do with maintaining the group’s grip on power in Lebanon, according to Lebanese MP Wehbe Katicha. Speaking with Lebanon’s OTV on Aug. 3, Katicha, a retired Lebanese Armed Forces general, said Hezbollah served Iran, not Lebanon, despite its claims to be acting in Lebanese or Palestinian interests were mere lies. With regard to the Palestinians, Katicha said that there was no reason for Lebanon to take the lead. “Why should four million Leb...
