Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) on Monday defended his opposition to President Trump‘s use of executive orders to address the coronavirus pandemic, hours after the president publicly called the GOP senator out over his criticism.
Sasse — in a note tweeted from his campaign account and signed “Gym Rat” — indicated he would rather have the discussion privately with Trump but added “since you moved our conversation from private to public, here we are.”
“On the topic that had you mad this weekend: No president — whether named Obama or Trump or Biden or AOC — has unilateral power to rewrite immigration law or to cut taxes or to raise taxes. This is because America doesn’t have kings,” Sasse wrote.

President Trump on Monday said he plans to deliver his acceptance speech during the Republican National Convention (RNC) from either the White House or the battlefield at Gettysburg.
“We have narrowed the Presidential Nomination Acceptance Speech, to be delivered on the final night of the Convention (Thursday), to two locations – The Great Battlefield of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and the White House, Washington, D.C. We will announce the decision soon!” Trump tweeted.
The president’s stated shortlist of potential locations comes two weeks before the RNC is set to begin.

A Minnesota nonprofit that saw a huge windfall in donations during the protests and riots that followed the death of George Floyd in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department reportedly has been putting up money to bail out people charged with serious violent crimes, including sexual assault, attempted murder and murder.

A coalition of 128 organizations has sent an open letter to Facebook’s board of directors calling on the social media giant to officially adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism as a guiding policy on combating online Jew-hatred.
The letter noted that Facebook’s director of content policy stakeholder engagement, Peter Stern, “admitted that Facebook does not have a policy aimed at combating online antisemitism” and that the IHRA definition had not been adopted because it included antisemitism related to Israel.

PA reportedly agrees to renew ties with US after receiving assurances there will be no Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria.
The Palestinian Authority (PA) has received a promise from the United States that Israel will not unilaterally apply its sovereignty over any part of Judea and Samaria, Channel 12 News commentator Ehud Yaari reported.
According to the report, the PA agreed to renew ties with the US after receiving the promise.

Rescuers early Tuesday morning pulled a second victim, an adult male, from the rubble after Monday's deadly gas explosion in northwest Baltimore.
Seven people remain hospitalized, five of them in critical condition, fire department spokeswoman Blair Adams said.
Adams said nearly 30 residents made use of a temporary shelter. Nearly 200 were affected by the blast.
"Right now we are working on a recovery effort," Adams said. "This was a really tough time for the community, for the residents of this neighborhood and the fire department."
Emergency management officials are working to remove debris and ensure homes are structurally sound. Residents may be able to go into their homes to retrieve belongings later Tuesday.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — (VinNews) This past Friday, a man who had threatened to drive to Lakewood, New Jersey and beat up Jews with a baseball bat had pled guilty to bias Intimidation, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor, Bradley D. Bilhimer.
The man was Anthony Lodespoto, age 43, from Howell Township. He sent messages containing these threats to a number of Facebook accounts on March 26th – including that of Governor Phil Murphy. Lodespoto pled guilty in front of the Honorable Guy P. Ryan, a Superior Court Judge.
Lodespoto had made these threats back in March over reported incidents that some members of Lakewood’s Jewish community were not in compliance with the governor’s order not to gather in groups of more than ten people.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan approved recommendations by the state elections board on Monday to reduce the number of polling places to accommodate a shortage of poll workers during the coronavirus pandemic.Last month, the governor initially directed the state to hold a traditional election and open all polling locations on Election Day, as well as early-voting centers - after the board did not reach a consensus on recommendations. Baltimore, MD - Aug. 11, 2020 — A woman is dead and seven people are seriously injured after three houses exploded Monday morning in northwest Baltimore, fire officials said.
Baltimore City fire officials are responding to a gas explosion on Labyrinth Road near Reisterstown Road. Fire officials were called to the scene just before 10 a.m.
Baltimore Fire officials said seven people have been recovered from the scene in serious condition -- one was taken to Shock Trauma, one was taken to Sinai Hospital and the other five are unknown at this time.
One woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Baltimore City Fire Commander said heavy machinery is not allowed to be used in the search. Firefighters are sifting through the rubble by hand.
