The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has decided to charge only one person from a group of Labour party activists accused of engaging in antisemitic hate speech, abuse and violence, it was reported on Wednesday. The actions of the Labour members in question were brought to the attention of authorities by the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA), which more than a year ago revealed a secret 86-page Labour document detailing 45 serious cases of antisemitism — including 17 described as “race-hate incidents,” which require informing the police. The dossier was passed by CAA to former Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) commander Mak Chishty, who found at least four cases he felt should be investigated as possibly criminal. These cases included one in which a Labour ...
Dozens of interviews with Democratic establishment leaders this week show that the Democratic Party are not just worried about a Bernie Sanders’s candidacy, but are also willing to risk intraparty damage to stop his nomination at the national convention in July if they get the chance. Since Sanders’s victory in Nevada’s caucuses on Saturday, The Times has interviewed 93 party officials — all of them superdelegates, who could have a say on the nominee at the convention — and found overwhelming opposition to handing the Vermont senator the nomination if he arrived with the most delegates but fell short of a majority. Former Vice President Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts have both said that Sanders should not become the nominee if he arrived at ...
Mike Bloomberg’s campaign reached out to Democrat Andrew Yang seeking his endorsement and supposedly dangled an offer to run as his vice president as the bait, a new report said Thursday. The ex-mayor’s aides contacted Yang in the hopes that the two could work together as Bloomberg seeks the Democratic nomination, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources. Yang, an entrepreneur like the billionaire Bloomberg, dropped out of the race earlier this month, turned down the offer because he was mulling his own political future, the paper reported. New Yorkers should prepare for a paper bag shortage when the new state law banning single-use plastic bags goes into effect across New York on Sunday. Instead, some retailers will begin offering paper bags as a replacement. The legislation aims to reduce litter and help protect wildlife in the Empire State, where more than 23 billion plastic bags are used a year, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation. All shops that collect sales tax, including grocery stores, bodegas and retailers in the Empire State will now be allowed to charge a five cent fee for every paper bag used though many stores may stop carrying bags at all. Three cents of the fee will go to the state’s Environmental Protection Fund while the remaining two cents will be allocated to the local g...
Yisrael Beiteinu head Avigdor Lieberman declared on Wednesday that following Israel’s March 2 election, the next government will be formed without Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Speaking at the Maariv business conference in Herzliya, Lieberman discussed the political impasse that has led to Israel’s third general election in less than 12 months and possible ways of solving it. Referring to the Sept. 17 election, Lieberman said, “I told them both they should form a unity government, but they preferred to argue about who would serve first and who would serve second [as prime minister under a rotation agreement], which is how we got dragged into another election. Next time, I’m making no commitments. I’m always transparent and try to say f...
Parshas Terumah begins with Hashem commanding Moshe Rabbeinu to collect “Terumah” from Bnei Yisroel in order to build the Mishkan and all of its adornments.  The Terumah to be collected was in the form of gold, silver, copper, special woods and oil – all of which were to be used in the daily operation of the Mishkan.  Yet in giving this commandment, the Torah appears to use grammatically incorrect language in its delivery.  The actual words of the Torah are “Speak to Bnei Yisroel and ‘take’ for me Terumah”. (25:2) Since the commandment in question really involves “giving” to Hashem it would seem that the more appropriate word to use would be “give” to me Terumah.  Chazal offer a variety of explanations f...
Fighter jets downed a drone that took off from the Gaza Strip on Thursday afternoon and flew, abnormally, westward over the Mediterranean. The incident takes place just days after the end of a round of fighting in the south, which began with massive rocket fire at southern communities on Sunday evening. After the end of the escalation round, Defense Minister Naftali Bennett said, “I am committed to bringing peace and security to the residents of the south. This time we eliminated 6-7 Islamic Jihad terrorists in Gaza and Syria, but this is not yet the decisive action. We will take decisive action soon. I’m not happy about fighting, but our enemies do not understand any other language.” Read more at Arutz Sheva.
Vice President Pence on Thursday tapped longtime health official and ambassador-at-large Debbie Birx to serve as the White House coronavirus response coordinator. Birx has worked for decades in the medical field, largely focusing on combating and preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. The staffing move is likely intended to appease calls from many lawmakers for the Trump administration to appoint a "czar" to oversee the federal response to the coronavirus. "She has deep experience in coordinating across agencies," Pence's office said in announcing Birx's new role. "She has worked from the research bench to the clinic, but understands the primary focus must always be to reach the individuals most in need. She will bring her infectious disease, immunologic, vaccine res...

DM Bennett: "We will pursue anyone who harms us, in order to make killing Israelis an unprofitable business.” Defense Minister Naftali Bennett on Thursday signed an order to seize $4 million transferred from Iran to Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The money is intended to develop Hamas terrorist infrastructure in Gaza, including the production of weapons and payment to the organization's terrorists, and originates from the Iranian government working against the State of Israel. The order signed today by the defense minister is directed against a Gaza money exchange company which is owned by Gaza businessman Zuhir Shamalah and his family. Shamalah took the place of Ahmad Khudri, Hamas' main money-changer who was close to Yahya Sinwar and was thwarted by the IDF in May 2019...
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have been permitted to run facial-recognition searches on millions of Maryland driver's license photos without first seeking state or court approval, state officials said - access that goes far beyond what other states allow and that alarms immigration activists in a state that grants special driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants. More than 275,000 such licenses have been issued statewide since 2013, when the state became the first on the East Coast to defy federal guidelines and allow undocumented immigrants to obtain a license without having to provide proof of legal status. The technology now under scrutiny could let an ICE official run a photograph of an unknown person through the system and see whether potentially un...
