It was the latest in a series of anti-Semitic incidents in the region. PARIS — Dozens of graves in the Jewish cemetery in the small Alsatian village of Westhoffen have been found daubed with swastikas and anti-Semitic graffiti, the latest in a series of cemetery and synagogue profanations in the region. The historic cemetery, which dates to the 16th century and houses the graves of the families of Karl Marx and former French prime ministers Leon Blum and Michel Debré, is the third Jewish cemetery in Alsace to be desecrated in the last year, according to the authorities. The police discovered the desecrated Westhoffen graves — about 107 of them — on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the French interior minister visited, vowing to redouble efforts to find t...

Congressman Devin Nunes speaks out about his defamation lawsuit against CNN on ‘Hannity.’
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) over the weekend compared the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border to that of Gaza and Israel. “Do you know what I saw at the border? I saw Gaza,” said Tlaib, the first Palestinian American woman in Congress, during her keynote address on Saturday at the American Muslims for Palestine conference in Chicago. “When you think about the border, you have to got to understand how interconnected the oppression in Palestine is with the oppression taking place at the border.” She also said that she’s advocating for clean water in her Michigan district and “fighting for clean water in Gaza.” More than 3,500 people were at the three-day event, according to organizers. Another speaker, Linda Sarsour, a surrogate for the Democrat...
Leviathan, Israel’s largest offshore natural-gas field, will start supplying the local market by the end of December, followed by exports to Egypt and Jordan soon after, Reuters reported on Monday. “Within two to three weeks, we will open the wells and start to supply the gas,” said Binyamin Zomer, vice president for regional affairs at Texas-based Noble Energy. “Before the end of the year, we will start supplying the domestic market, and in the weeks right after that, we will export to Egypt and Jordan,” Zomer told the annual Israel Energy and Business Convention, according to the report. Noble Energy discovered the Leviathan field, located in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Haifa, in 2010.

HOUSTON (AP) — A local judge in South Texas has ordered supporters of President Donald Trump not to build their planned private border wall on a section of land near the Rio Grande. State District Judge Keno Vasquez on Tuesday issued a temporary restraining order against We Build the Wall, which raised $25 million after promising to build its own private barrier. Vasquez set a Dec. 17 hearing for We Build the Wall and its founder, Brian Kolfage, to appear in court in the South Texas city of Edinburg. We Build the Wall announced on Facebook last month that it was starting construction on private land next to the Rio Grande, the river that separates the U.S. and Mexico in Texas. It posted videos that showed a construction foreman describing plans to install posts a short distance fro...
JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Veteran Israeli journalist Carmela Menashe supposedly dropped a bombshell Tuesday morning when she reported that the IDF had inflated the numbers of Chareidi recruits enlisting each year in order to meet prearranged government quotas. Menashe claimed that the IDF’s Haredi recruitment division allegedly “forged” the numbers by counting the religious (who are not ultra-Orthodox), and sometimes even secular, recruits in order to meet the needed criteria. For example, in 2017 the official number of Haredi recruits (as reported by the IDF) stood at 3,070, only 130 fewer than the recruitment target of 3,200 set by the government in 2016.  In reality, however, only 1,300 soldiers were in fact ultra-Orthodox, less than double the reported figure....
Political officials seek to have president pardon incumbent prime minister in exchange for his stepping down from political life. Under the outline, President Reuven Rivlin would grant a broad pardon to Netanyahu if he admits to the indictments filed against him and declares he is retiring from political life. On Tuesday, Attorney General Dr. Avichai Mandelblit sent an updated indictment to Prime Minister Netanyahu. The updated indictment revealed the district court to which the indictment will be filed, t...

HEVRON (VINnews) — The Israeli Defense Ministry and the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria are moving forward with plans to renovate part of the Machpela Cave in Hevron, including making the  site wheelchairs-accessible. The plans are being promoted despite objections by the Waqf, or Islamic trust, which co-manages the site along with the Israeli chief rabbinate. The Hevron municipality, which is controlled by the PA, is officially responsible for the site but has consistently blocked attempts to renovate it over the years, despite repeated requests by the local Jewish community. At present the Defense Ministry is expected to expropriate the land around the complex from the Arab municipality of Hevron and the Waqf. The Tourism Ministry is providing half a million shekel...

Baltimore, MD - Dec. 4, 2019 - Baltimore City Public Schools could come up short as it looks ahead to planning next year's budget, CEO Sonja Santelises said. "There's a projected budget gap of about $60 million," Santelises said. Speaking at a City Council committee hearing Tuesday night, Santelises gave council members a closer look at the district's financial books and predicting what may lie ahead. "We have been proactive in my administration in seeking out outside eyes. We have not been insular," Santelises said. The district is focused on six months down to road, when millions of state dollars from a three-year funding package called Bridge to Kirwan will run out. "I have to say, we have to do due diligence and really begin to ask the question, when the bridge goes...
WASHINGTON—The Trump administration is considering a significant expansion of the U.S. military footprint in the Middle East, including dozens more ships, other military hardware and as many as 14,000 additional troops to counter Iran, U.S. officials said. The deployment could double the number of U.S. military personnel who have been sent to the region since the start of a troop buildup in May. President Trump is expected to make a decision on the new deployments as soon as this month, those officials said. Mr. Trump, facing an election next year, has long sought to exit foreign entanglements and avoid new conflicts. But on Iran—and partly at the behest of Israel—he is convinced of the need to counter the threat h...
NEW YORK – Calling a Jew an antisemite is one of the most difficult things a person who fights antisemitism has to do. Judaism tolerates dissent to a great degree, but arming antisemites with one’s Jewishness is perhaps the greatest and most vile of sins one Jew can commit against another. That’s why Bernie Sanders rightfully deserves to be called an antisemite. There’s no other way to explain his absolute lovefest with now notorious antisemites like Ilhan “Israel hypnotized the world” Omar and Rashida “the Holocaust gives me a comforting feeling” Tlaib, both of whom have endorsed his candidacy for president. We know he agrees with his socialist comrade Jeremy Corbyn, incidentally also a notorious antisemite, when it comes to being friends w...
Federal investigators are re-upping a $5 million reward related to the capture of a 37-year-old man on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists List whom it called “the highest-ranking U.S. citizen fighting overseas with a terrorist organization.” The award for information leading to the arrest of Jehad Serwan Mostafa formerly of San Diego, came as federal prosecutors announced new charges related to his alleged “critical role” in supporting the Somalia-based Islamic terrorism organization, al-Shabab, according to a federal indictment unsealed Monday. The new charges expand on three similar counts Mostafa faces from a 2009 indictment and includes his alleged activities in support of al-Shabab that took place between March 2008 to February 2017. The FBI did not deta...
LONDON (VINnews/Jewish Chronicle) — A leading Charedi rabbi in London fears for his life after a letter was circulated within his community implying that he should be killed for speaking out against antisemitism in the Labour Party, according to a report by the London “Jewish Chronicle”. Rabbi Avraham Pinter, an ex-councillor in Stamford Hill and chairman of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregation’s (UOHC) external affairs committee, criticized Diane Abbott, the Labour MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, last month for “being totally out of touch with the reality” of how Jews in her constituency feel. He said she should not “use the Charedi Jewish community for political gain” after she suggest that Charedim did not share the same c...
