The Baltimore State's Attorney's Office continues to investigate the death of Baltimore Police detective Sean Suiter as a memo shares new information on why they are still investigating despite police stating they found no evidence to believe his death was "anything other than a suicide" and the case was closed, according to the Baltimore Sun. Last week, Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison released a statement declaring Suiter's death a suicide. Harrison's statement prompted responses from Suiter's family and prosecutors still investigating. Harrison wrote, "There is nothing in the report to suggest that Det. Suiter's death was anything other than a suicide, nor was there any suggestion that the case should be re-investigating or continued," He wr...
After the homicide rate in Baltimore City reached 300 Thursday, Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said in an interview Thursday it could take seven to eight years for the homicide rate to decrease. For five straight years, Baltimore City has had at least 300 homicides. The city hit the grim milestone Thursday after two shooting victims were found at the corner of McHenry and Monroe streets around 3 a.m. Harrison was interviewed on "Midday with Tom Hall" on WYPR-FM when he addressed the spike in crime. Hall asked Harrison how long it would take to decrease violent crime in the city. Harrison compared the city to New Orleans. "So it took eight years, seven to eight years for that mayor to start seeing decreases based on the comprehensive violence reduction strategy...
WASHINGTON (AP) – Millions of Americans are choosing to experience the impeachment hearings through media filters that depict the proceedings as either a worthless sham or like Christmas in November. That’s the chief difference between now and the two other times in the modern era when a presidential impeachment was explored, and will likely be a major factor in determining whether the hearings change anyone’s minds about President Donald Trump. Fox News Channel was the favorite network of the 13.8 million Americans who watched Wednesday’s opening of the House hearing on television. The audiences for each of Fox’s prime-time opinion hosts — Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham — were larger that evening than the 2.9 million people who ...
Elazar Cohen, Israel’s new commissioner to Expo 2020, which will be held in Dubai, said this week that the world fair would give Israel an opportunity to build closer ties with the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf states, the AP reported. Cohen said in a briefing at Israel’s Foreign Ministry that the Israeli pavilion at the world’s largest exhibition would present technological products, but also showcase the country itself. “There is curiosity, mixed with concern, about this thing called Israel, and we want to alleviate that concern,” said Cohen. ”We want to project that Israel is an open country, that Israel is a democratic country, that Israel is a country that respects all its citizens, that everyone finds their place in it.” Israeli Prim...

The campaign, which targets voters in four general election battleground states — Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — begins running on Friday, according to Bloomberg spokesman Jason Schechter. News of the massive investment was first reported by The New York Times. The former New York City mayor has already filed paperwork in at least two states to appear on presidential primary ballots. Bloomberg himself is not featured in the ad campaign. One example of a new ad: An image of Trump’s Twitter account that says, “A TWEET SHOULDN&rsqu...

JERUSALEM (AP) – Israel said early Friday it has completed a series of airstrikes on targets linked to the Islamic Jihad militant group in Gaza after overnight rocket fire that rattled a day-old truce. The Palestinian territory’s Hamas rulers, who kept to the sidelines of this week’s fighting, cancelled the weekly protests they organize along the perimeter fence without explanation — apparently in an effort to preserve the calm. Israel reiterated that it was willing to abide by the cease-fire if there are no additional rocket attacks. The army said in a statement that it struck a military compound, a rocket-manufacturing site and a militant headquarters in the town of Khan Younis overnight. The airstrikes came after a barrage of rockets late Thursday. There were ...
TEHRAN (VINnews) – Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Friday that Tehran is not calling for the “disappearance of Jewish people,” and that people of all religions should decide Israel’s future, Reuters reports. The Iranian Supreme Leader routinely calls for Israel’s destruction. “Calling for the elimination of the state of Israel does not mean the elimination of the Jewish people,” Khamenei told officials and participants at an Islamic conference in Tehran, according to his official website. “It means that the people of Palestine – be they Muslim, Christian or Jewish – should choose their own government.” Khamenei claimed that “we are not antisemitic” and that “Jews live in Iran safely.” Kh...

The situation came to a head last Sunday, when pssengers who arrived on a Transavia flight from Tel Aviv experinced a 2 hour delay to receive their lugagge, which ultimately resulted in a fight between the passengers and the airport staff. Passengers say that while they were experincing a 2 hour delay, they saw passengers who had just come off a flight from Algeria, and were receiving their luggage right away. Frustrated by the lack of explanation, some of the Tel Aviv passenegrs forced their way into a restricted area....
President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to stop a prosecutor’s investigation of his personal finances, a bold assertion of presidential power that seeks a landmark decision from the nation’s highest court. The filing by the president’s private lawyers represents a historical moment that tests the court’s independence and highlights the Constitution’s separation-of-powers design. It also marks a new phase in the investigations that have dogged Trump throughout his presidency and have culminated in an impeachment inquiry. The case involves Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.’s attempt to enforce a grand jury subpoena issued to the president’s accountants for eight years of Trump’s tax records. Trump went to court t...
Venice has experienced some of the worst flooding in its history this week, with flood levels of over 6 feet submerging the city’s most revered and trafficked historical sites. High tides have washed over 85% of the one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, causing hundreds of millions of euros’ worth of damage, with shops, buildings and hundreds of pieces of infrastructure being flooded. The mayor has called the acqua alta – or high water – a “blow to the heart of the city,” and a state of emergency has been declared ahead of more expected flooding, according to Washington Post reports. It has been over 50 years since Venice has seen flooding this severe. The flood of 1966 saw a deluge raise the canals to a height of 6 feet 4 inches, ...
The Justice Department inspector general’s office has told witnesses who are set to review draft sections of its long-awaited report on the FBI investigation of President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign that they will not be allowed to submit written feedback – one in a series of unusual restrictions that some fear could make the final document less accurate, people familiar with the matter said. As is the case in most inspector general probes, witnesses are being invited to review draft sections of the report and offer comments and corrections, the people said. But – unlike most cases – they are being told that those comments must be conveyed verbally, the people said. Even though Attorney General William Barr and other officials have been working in recent we...
“The new rules of the game are clear—the IDF will operate freely, without any limitation,” Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett said on Thursday, a short while after a ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) went into effect, ending two days of intense rocket-fire from the Gaza Strip. Bennett, who took up his post as defense minister on Tuesday as rockets fell across central and southern Israel following the targeted killing of PIJ commander Baha Abu al-Ata, singled out residents of the country’s southern, Gaza-adjacent communities for special praise over their handling of the crisis. “I’m proud of our soldiers, who stand vigilant, and of the Israeli public,” said Bennett, “especially the residents of the south, who...
Andor Stern, who is recognized by the Brazilian Association of Holocaust Survivors as the only Brazilian-born Holocaust survivor, celebrated his bar mitzvah on Monday at the age of 91. The ceremony was held in Stern’s native town of São Paulo, where he now lives, in its oldest synagogue, Kehilat Israel. It took place the same day as the 81st anniversary of Kristallnacht, the nationwide Nazi pogrom against Jews that took place the night of Nov. 9-10, 1938 in Germany and Austria. Rabbi Toive Weitman, head of the São Paulo Holocaust memorial who led the ceremony, told JTA that “Hitler’s goal was not only a physical slaughter of the Jewish people, but also a spiritual extermination. He failed. Mr. Stern continues, connected to his essence, celebrating life wit...
WASHINGTON (AP) — Former U.S. Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch opened the second day of Trump impeachment hearings Friday providing chilling detail how she felt a “big threat” after being suddenly ousted from her post and learning that President Donald Trump personally called her “bad news” on his July phone call with the Ukrainian president. Yovanovitch told the House Intelligence Committee of a concerted “smear” campaign against her by Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and others, including the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr. As Yovanovitch testified at the Capitol, the president assailed her anew from the White House. Moments after Trump’s press secretary said he would not be watching the hearing, he went after Y...
North Korea has launched another volley of insults at former vice president Joe Biden, calling him a “rabid dog” who is greedy for power and deserves to be beaten to death. The attack came two weeks after Biden issued a statement attacking President Donald Trump’s North Korea policy and referring to that country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, as a “murderous dictator.” In response, North Korea laid on the animal metaphors thick and fast, calling Biden a crafty, rabid dog keen at getting at others’ throats, and a profiteer. “A crow is never whiter for often washing,” the Korean Central News Agency said in a commentary. “Anyone who dare slanders the dignity of the supreme leadership of the DPRK, can never spare the DPRK’s merciles...
