Federal authorities have accused a Maryland man of bribing a Russian atomic energy official to help secure contracts for transporting nuclear fuel. The Justice Department on Friday said 54-year-old Mark Lambert of Mount Airy was charged with violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and related counts. Lambert was co-president of a firm that transported nuclear materials to power companies in the U.S. and abroad. He allegedly took part in a scheme to bribe Vadim Mikerin, an official at a subsidiary of Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation. It exports the country's uranium. William Sullivan, Lambert's attorney, told The Frederick News Post that they "categorically reject the charges and are eager to dispute and defeat them in court." Mik...
A bipartisan agreement among a handful of senators to prevent deportation of hundreds of thousands of young immigrants includes a pathway to citizenship that would take up to 12 years. The Associated Press on Saturday obtained details of the deal that includes $1.6 billion for structures including a wall for border security. The agreement between three Republican and three Democratic senators would prevent deportation of hundreds of thousands of so-called Dreamers, who were brought to this country as children and are here illegally. President Donald Trump and some GOP congressional leaders have said the bipartisan deal is insufficient. Its proponents — led by Sens. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. — say they are continuing to round up supporters in hopes ...
Owings Mills, MD — Baltimore County police have arrested an 18-year-old man after a pursuit involving a car that was reported stolen from Baltimore City. The officer fired shots at the stolen car as it drove toward him. The officer was not struck...
WASHINGTON –  With Russia in mind, the Trump administration is aiming to develop new nuclear firepower that it says will make it easier to deter threats to European allies. The plan, not yet approved by President Donald Trump, is intended to make nuclear conflict less likely. Critics argue it would do the opposite. The proposal is spelled out in a policy document, known officially as a "nuclear posture review," that puts the U.S. in a generally more aggressive nuclear stance. It is the first review of its kind since 2010 and is among several studies of security strategy undertaken since Trump took office. In many ways it reaffirms the nuclear policy of President Barack Obama, including his commitment to replace all key elements of the nuclear arsenal with new, more modern wea...
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House physician pronounced Donald Trump to be in “excellent health” after Trump had his first medical exam as U.S. president on Friday, capping off a week in which his mental fitness for the job has come under intense scrutiny. Trump spent about three hours with military doctors at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, an exam that White House doctor Ronny Jackson said went “exceptionally well.”“The president is in excellent health and I look forward to briefing some of the details on Tuesday,” Jackson said in a brief statement distributed by the White House. The exam came after a new best-selling book portrayed Trump, 71, as unfocused and childlike. The White House has faced a barr...
Lately, it seems that no matter where you go, or what background you’re from, Jews from all over the world are singing “Ko Echsof.” This inspirational song was written by known Tzaddik Reb Ahron Karliner ZT”L, and has quickly become one of the most sung Zemiros on Friday nights. Something about this particular Nigun penetrates ones soul, the more you sing it, the more you feel it. This Hartzig song and arrangement was presented by Yoily Polatseck of the Zemiros Choir, as a gift to Shalom Vegh of the 5 Towns, a close friend of his, at a special occasion to honor his Siyum Hashas. Guided by Yoily, the group’s founder and musical director, Ko Echsof which is the Zemer of today is now being paired with the Zemiros who know Zemiros better than anyone. The harmo...
A Palestinian Authority (PA) official told London's Al-Hayat newspaper that the PA continues to remain in contact with the US administration, and even sent the US Consulate in Jerusalem an invitation to the Palestine Liberation Organization Central Committee's meeting, which is scheduled for Sunday. According to the official, the PA cut ties only with those US officials involved in the peace plan, including White House adviser Jared Kushner, US Special Envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt, and US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman. The official also said that "bilateral communications have not ceased, and they include the official channels and security cooperation. However, communications regarding the peace process have completely ceased." Following US Preside...
Israeli fighter plans attack terrorist infrastructure in Gaza. Security agencies announce closure of Gaza-Israel crossing. IDF fighter planes on Friday night attacked terrorist infrastructure in southern Gaza, near the Gaza-Egypt border. "The Hamas terror group is responsible for everything which occurs in Gaza and comes from Gaza," the IDF said in a statement. No one was injured. Meanwhile, Arab media reported that the IDF's target was a terror tunnel. Due to evaluation of the security situation, the Kerem Shalom border crossing from Gaza into Israel will not open on Sunday. Israeli security agencies did not detail the reason for the closure, but the relevant Arab authorities have been informed of the decision.
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has accused an FBI agent who was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigative team of “treason.” President Trump made the comment in an interview Thursday with The Wall Street Journal. He was referring to Peter Strzok, an FBI agent who had been assigned to work on Mueller’s team investigating potential ties between Russia and the Trump campaign. Strzok was removed last summer following the discovery of anti-Trump text messages he exchanged with an FBI lawyer who was also assigned to the team. Treason is defined in law as aiding an enemy of the United States. Aitan Goelman, a lawyer for Strzok, says President Trump’s allegation is “beyond reckless” and “It should surprise no one that...
CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago may become the first city in the U.S. to arm its police officers with devices that will tell them immediately if motorists were texting when they got into a traffic accident. After hearing from a father whose son was killed in a traffic accident in which the driver was texting, as well as a company that developed a prototype of the so-called "Textalyzer," the City Council's public safety committee voted Thursday to request that the police department study the hand-held devices. The vote sends the issue to the full council, which is all but certain to approve the resolution next week. A number of states are considering equipping law enforcement officials with the devices, including New York, New Jersey and Tennessee. But one of the co-sponsors of the resolution...
Outgoing Democratic Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe told a national television audience he'd knock President Donald Trump to the floor if the president ever tried to intimidate him. During an interview Thursday on MSNBC's "Hardball," Chris Matthews asked McAuliffe how he would respond if Trump tried to intimidate him during a debate by hovering over him, as he did during the 2016 presidential election with Hillary Clinton, a close friend of McAuliffe's. "You'd have to pick him up off the floor," McAuliffe said. When Matthews laughed and asked if he meant he would "deck" Trump, McAuliffe answered with a straight face. "You want to get in my space ... you punch me, I'm going to punch you back twice as hard." "But if he ever came over and l...

Woodward had told homicide investigators that he drove Bernstein to Borrego Ranch Park on Jan. 2, the night Bernstein disappeared. Around 1:15 p.m., two sheriff’s investigators brought the handcuffed man to the Orange County Jail. He had on a sweatshirt that read, “Keep the peace.” The suspect and the arrested man had attended the Or...

Baltimore County, MD - Jan. 10, 2018 - Thanks to the advocacy of Councilwoman Vicki Almond and her team, the dedicated efforts of PGCC (Pikesville Greenspring Community Coalition) as well as many neighborhood residents, an exciting update is being made to the traffic lights along Smith Ave. This change will go into effect this Shabbos, January 13th, Parshas Bo. Whereas traffic lights typically require a button press for the crosswalks to indicate it’s safe to cross, beginning this week the traffic lights along Smith Ave at the corners of Pimlico, Greenspring, Sanzo, Labyrinth, and Seven Mile will be programmed to cycle automatically every Friday night/Shabbos so that Shomrei Shabbos  pedestrians can safely cross the street.  These exciting changes come after many months of...
Eleven prisoners held at the Guantanamo Bay detention filed a legal challenge Thursday against President Donald Trump, whose administration has not released or transferred anyone from the U.S. base in Cuba over the past year. Lawyers for the men argue in a challenge filed in U.S. District Court in Washington that the apparent policy of no releases amounts to arbitrary "perpetual detention" that violates the Constitution and acts of Congress establishing the rights of the men held at Guantanamo. Their complaint, filed on the 16th anniversary of the opening of the detention center on the base in southeast Cuba, is unusual legal step since this type of action, known as habeas corpus petition, is typically filed on behalf of individuals rather than a group of prisoners. The f...

LONDON — President Donald Trump has canceled a trip to London to open the new U.S. Embassy, blaming the Obama administration for selling the old building in the city for "peanuts." He criticized the move from "perhaps the best located and finest embassy," even though the relocation was initiated under the George W. Bush administration in 2008 amid wider security concerns after terror attacks such as the 1998 embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya. Trump's decision was greeted with relief by London's Mayor Sadiq Khan, who said the president had "finally got the message" that he was not welcome in the British capital. The looming trip — and a state visit for which no date has been set — threatened to be a security headache for authorities who feared m...
The same Russian government-aligned hackers who penetrated the Democratic Party have spent the past few months laying the groundwork for an espionage campaign against the U.S. Senate, a cybersecurity firm said Friday. The revelation suggests the group often nicknamed Fancy Bear, whose hacking campaign scrambled the 2016 U.S. electoral contest, is still busy trying to gather the emails of America's political elite. "They're still very active — in making preparations at least — to influence public opinion again," said Feike Hacquebord, a security researcher at Trend Micro Inc., which published the report . "They are looking for information they might leak later." The Senate Sergeant at Arms office, which is responsible for the upper house's security, declined to...
WASHINGTON — The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee says he wants to interview the President’s daughter as part of the panel’s Russia investigation, along with other witnesses who Republicans aren’t inviting. Rep. Adam Schiff said Thursday that Republicans have declined to invite many witnesses that would be valuable to the probe, including Ivanka Trump and several people who he says have additional information about a June 2016 meeting between Russians and the Trump campaign. “There are witnesses who have knowledge of the Trump Tower meeting and what it was about prior to the meeting that have not been brought before our committee,” Schiff told reporters. At the Trump Tower meeting, several Trump campaign officials met with Russian oper...
