Federal authorities have accused a Maryland man of bribing a Russian atomic energy official to help secure contracts for transporting nuclear fuel.
The Justice Department on Friday said 54-year-old Mark Lambert of Mount Airy was charged with violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and related counts.
Lambert was co-president of a firm that transported nuclear materials to power companies in the U.S. and abroad. He allegedly took part in a scheme to bribe Vadim Mikerin, an official at a subsidiary of Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation. It exports the country's uranium.
William Sullivan, Lambert's attorney, told The Frederick News Post that they "categorically reject the charges and are eager to dispute and defeat them in court."

A bipartisan agreement among a handful of senators to prevent deportation of hundreds of thousands of young immigrants includes a pathway to citizenship that would take up to 12 years.
The Associated Press on Saturday obtained details of the deal that includes $1.6 billion for structures including a wall for border security.
The agreement between three Republican and three Democratic senators would prevent deportation of hundreds of thousands of so-called Dreamers, who were brought to this country as children and are here illegally.

Owings Mills, MD — Baltimore County police have arrested an 18-year-old man after a pursuit involving a car that was reported stolen from Baltimore City.
County police said officers saw a gray 2014 Honda Accord around 10:30 p.m. Friday in Owings Mills. Police said the car was reported stolen Jan. 6 from Baltimore City.
County police said officers tried to block the stolen car from getting away, during which time the stolen car struck an officer's cruiser and fled on Village Queen Drive toward Reisterstown Road. The officer inside the cruiser involved in the crash suffered minor injuries, police said.

WASHINGTON – With Russia in mind, the Trump administration is aiming to develop new nuclear firepower that it says will make it easier to deter threats to European allies.

A Palestinian Authority (PA) official told London's Al-Hayat newspaper that the PA continues to remain in contact with the US administration, and even sent the US Consulate in Jerusalem an invitation to the Palestine Liberation Organization Central Committee's meeting, which is scheduled for Sunday.
According to the official, the PA cut ties only with those US officials involved in the peace plan, including White House adviser Jared Kushner, US Special Envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt, and US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman.

Israeli fighter plans attack terrorist infrastructure in Gaza. Security agencies announce closure of Gaza-Israel crossing.
IDF fighter planes on Friday night attacked terrorist infrastructure in southern Gaza, near the Gaza-Egypt border.
"The Hamas terror group is responsible for everything which occurs in Gaza and comes from Gaza," the IDF said in a statement.
No one was injured.
Meanwhile, Arab media reported that the IDF's target was a terror tunnel.
Due to evaluation of the security situation, the Kerem Shalom border crossing from Gaza into Israel will not open on Sunday.
Israeli security agencies did not detail the reason for the closure, but the relevant Arab authorities have been informed of the decision.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has accused an FBI agent who was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigative team of “treason.”
President Trump made the comment in an interview Thursday with The Wall Street Journal.
He was referring to Peter Strzok, an FBI agent who had been assigned to work on Mueller’s team investigating potential ties between Russia and the Trump campaign. Strzok was removed last summer following the discovery of anti-Trump text messages he exchanged with an FBI lawyer who was also assigned to the team.

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago may become the first city in the U.S. to arm its police officers with devices that will tell them immediately if motorists were texting when they got into a traffic accident.
After hearing from a father whose son was killed in a traffic accident in which the driver was texting, as well as a company that developed a prototype of the so-called "Textalyzer," the City Council's public safety committee voted Thursday to request that the police department study the hand-held devices. The vote sends the issue to the full council, which is all but certain to approve the resolution next week.

Outgoing Democratic Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe told a national television audience he'd knock President Donald Trump to the floor if the president ever tried to intimidate him.
During an interview Thursday on MSNBC's "Hardball," Chris Matthews asked McAuliffe how he would respond if Trump tried to intimidate him during a debate by hovering over him, as he did during the 2016 presidential election with Hillary Clinton, a close friend of McAuliffe's.

SANTA ANA – A friend of slain pre-med student Blaze Bernstein was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the death of the University of Pennsylvania sophomore, whose body was found near a Foothill Ranch park on Tuesday, a week after the 19-year-old disappeared.
Samuel Woodward, 21, was taken into custody Friday shortly after leaving his home in Newport Beach, according to a source with knowledge of the case. Woodward had told homicide investigators that he drove Bernstein to Borrego Ranch Park on Jan. 2, the night Bernstein disappeared.

Hawaii emergency officials confirmed Saturday that an alert warning that a ballistic missile was inbound to the island was a mistake.
Earlier Saturday, Hawaiian citizens reported receiving an emergency alert on their phone that stated: “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”
House Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, tweeted in regard to the alert: “HAWAII – THIS IS A FALSE ALARM. THERE IS NO INCOMING MISSILE TO HAWAII. I HAVE CONFIRMED WITH OFFICIALS THERE IS NO INCOMING MISSILE.”

WASHINGTON — The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee says he wants to interview the President’s daughter as part of the panel’s Russia investigation, along with other witnesses who Republicans aren’t inviting.
