Every word, every letter in the Torah is used for a specific reason and purpose.  We are reminded of this concept often through the teachings of Chazal where they will derive significant meanings from a word missing a letter, which it would customarily have (chaser), or a word having an “extra” letter - one which it normally would not have  (maleh).  The Gemarah goes even further and teaches us that Hashem told Moshe Rabeinu that not only were nekudos important but that one day, a great man named Rebbi Akiva will learn halachos out of the “crowns” written on top of the letters in the Torah (Menachos 29b).  This idea is driven home quite clearly in Parshas Bo.  In this Parsha, we are deep into the maccos brought upon Pharoh for his stubborn ...

Baltimore, MD - Jan. 31, 2025 - The North Avenue District Courthouse in Baltimore is closed Friday after a shooting. North Avenue and Hartford Road are closed. Officials ask the public to avoid the area. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said a 35-year-old man entered the Eastside District Court on North Avenue in Baltimore around 8:40 a.m. Friday. "As he went into the courthouse, he was clearly suffering from behavioral crisis, he was walking back and forth," Worley said. "Sheriff's deputies and the bailiffs tried to interact with him. At some point, he withdrew a firearm from his body, pointed it at his head. The deputies tried to get him to drop his weapon." Worley said a bailiff is preliminarily believed to have fired two shots, striking the man in the lower extremi...

When a large segment of a community is enduring similar challenges, we often borrow and utter a sentiment expressed in this week's portion when the Egyptians realized the full repercussions of the plague of the Firstborn, "There was no house that there was no corpse."  Why do we emphasize the 'house' being affected rather than a more accurate expression that there was simply no person that didn't suffer a loss? We are taught that it wasn't just a mother's firstborn child that was doomed, but any child who was the first to be spawned by his father — even if his mother had previously given birth to others — was also doomed. In one of the chapters in Psalms where King David records the marvels that transpired in Egypt, he mentions how, "He sm...
After 482 days in Hamas captivity, Israeli hostages Arbel Yehud, Gadi Moses, and Agam Berger returned home on Thursday, revealing harrowing details of their ordeal—including how they clung to their faith, refusing to eat leavened bread on Passover and attempting to fast on Yom Kippur, despite their captors’ cruelty. The IDF observers from Nahal Oz, including Agam Berger, made a conscious effort to observe Jewish traditions even while being held underground and in Hamas-controlled apartments in Gaza, Ynet reported. Despite the dire conditions, they refused to eat chametz (leavened bread) on Passover and attempted to fast on Yom Kippur, a difficult task given the severe malnutrition they suffered. Berger, the last IDF observer to be released, said that holding o...
Annapolis, MD - Jan. 30, 2025 - Maryland standardized reading test scores for fourth graders jumped from 40th in the nation in 2022 to 20th place in 2024, according to the latest National Assessment of Educational Progress report released Wednesday. The NAEP, often referred to as the Nation’s Report Card, also said reading scores for Maryland eighth graders improved from 25th to 21st during the same period. State Superintendent Carey Wright said one reason for the gains is the fact that it has been a statewide priority to incorporate the science of reading in all 24 school systems, starting this school year. The program, which Wright led during her tenure as state schools chief in Mississippi, focuses on teaching students based on phonics, comprehension and vocabulary. &...

The Prime Minister's Office announced that Israel has obtained an agreement to ensure the safety of the hostages who will be released in the future following disturbing scenes of masses of Gazans and Hamas terrorists surrounding the hostages who were released today. "Pursuant to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's demand, the mediators have conveyed a commitment, according to which the safe exit of our hostages who are due to be released in the next phases has been assured," the PMO stated. "Israel insists that the lessons be learned and that strict care be taken in the next phases regarding the safe return of our hostages." Earlier this afternoon, Prime Minister Netanyahu together with Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered that the release of the terrorists slated to ...
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) intends to issue a preliminary report on the collision within 30 days, officials said Thursday.  "Our intention is to have a preliminary report within 30 days, and the final report will be issued once we've completed all of our fact-finding and investigation,” NTSB board member Todd Inman told reporters during a news conference. The agency will not determine a probable cause for the accident, he said. “Nor will we speculate about what may have caused this accident,” he added. The flight data recorders havenot yet recovered , which isn't unusual NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said.
A U.S. Air Force veteran discussed the challenges of flying a military helicopter in congested airspace, saying that “aircraft lights and ground lights all look the same at night.” “It's really hard to tell. And I've heard a lot of people say, 'I can't believe they just ran into it,' but they probably never saw the aircraft until the very last second, or they'd already hit it,” Jim Cardoso, the Senior Director for the University of South Florida’s Global and National Security Institute and a U.S. Air Force veteran, told Fox News Digital. “And people find that hard to believe, but this giant aircraft at night is just two more lights added to all the other lights in the D.C. area,” he said. Cardoso said that...
Arlington, VA - Jan. 30, 2025 - Staffing at the air control tower at Ronald Reagan National Airport was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic,” according to an internal preliminary Federal Aviation Administration report reviewed by The New York Times. The controller who was handling helicopters Wednesday night was also instructing planes that were landing and departing from the airport runways, the Times reported. Those assignments are typically assigned to two controllers. Fox News Digital has reached out to the FAA. The air control tower at Reagan airport has been understaffed for years with 19 fully certified controllers as of September 2023. However, staffing targets set by the FAA and the controllers’ union call for 30.
