Jerusalem, Israel - July 2, 2024  - Over Shabbat, 180 Nova survivors came together in Jerusalem, Israel, to spend Shabbat with religious Jews for a first-of-its-kind “Shabbaton”  promoting unity and healing.  The weekend, run by Kesher Yehudi, brought secular survivors and religious Israelis to the David Citadel Hotel for an “authentic Shabbat experience” that included speakers discussing topics ranging from healing to the need for unity in Israel to spirituality. Despite the diversity of attendees, the weekend was marked by a sense of community and mutual connection. Many of the survivors had never before religiously experienced Shabbat. Many others were raised in a traditional home, and as with so many families in Israel, their relationship with re...
Former President Trump’s criminal sentencing is delayed until September 18 as he attempts to set aside his recent guilty verdict in the wake of the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity decision, a New York judge ruled on Tuesday.  Judge Juan Merchan’s ruling means Trump will not be sentenced before the Republican National Convention, though he is now poised to be sentenced in the heat of the general election race. It also comes about a week after the next presidential debate on Sept. 10. Though Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s (D) office believes the 34-count conviction should stand, he agreed to adjourn the scheduled July 11 sentencing hearing so Trump can first attempt to mount his presidential immunity defense.  The former preside...

In Bamidbar 17:1 we see that Korach decided to fight regarding the Kehuna. The Gemara in Horiyus 28b says that from the word “vekidashto” we learn that one has to give precedence to a Kohen regarding any davar shebikdusha. The Kohen bentches and gets the first portion etc. In Gittin 59b we see that the chiyuv of kedushas Kohen is Min HaTorah. The Rambam in Sefer Hamitzvos 32 and the Smag 171 say that the chiyuv of vekidashto is a de’Oraysa. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) on Tuesday became the first House Democrat to publicly urge President Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race following his poor performance at last week’s debate. Doggett — who has served in the House since 1995 — said he had hoped the debate against former President Trump would “provide some momentum” to turbocharge Biden’s poll numbers. That, however, did not come to fruition, he said. “Instead of reassuring voters, the President failed to effectively defend his many accomplishments and expose Trump’s many lies,” Doggett said in a statement. “I represent the heart of a congressional district once represented by Lyndon Johnson,” Doggett added. “Under very differe...
United Parcel Service plans to lay off 540 people when it closes a Baltimore County distribution center next month, according to a state database. UPS filed a Work Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice with the Maryland Department of Labor on June 20 notifying the state that it plans to lay off hundreds of employees at its sorting facility at 3901 Vero Rd. in Halethorpe. The facility is located in southwestern Baltimore County, near Interstates 95 and 695. The effective date of the layoffs is Aug. 23, according to the notice. UPS did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment. UPS previously laid off 118 employees at the same facility in March. A spokesperson previously told Patch the company was "reducing the package sorting operatio...
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s (D) office said Tuesday it won’t oppose delaying former President Trump’s July 11 sentencing even as they disagree with his new attempt to set aside his hush money verdict on immunity grounds.  Following the Supreme Court’s decision carving out criminal immunity for former presidents, Trump on Monday sent a letter to his judge insisting prosecutors at the trial introduced evidence that is precluded under the Supreme Court’s test.  “Although we believe defendant’s arguments to be without merit, we do not oppose his request for leave to file and his putative request to adjourn sentencing pending determination of his motion,” Assistant District Attorney Josh...
Gaza's electricity company began connecting cables on Salah al-Din Street in the Deir al-Balah area, for the first time since the outbreak of the war. After the infrastructure works are completed, the water desalination and sewage treatment facility will be operated directly from the Israeli electricity grid. The order to connect was given by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who explained that it was a move to provide "a response to basic humanitarian needs." The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) noted that the operation of the water desalination facility is being carried out with the approval of the political echelon and derives from humanitarian considerations to prevent pollution and the outbreak of diseases in the Strip. An official IDF statement on ...
Rudy Giuliani, who once served as New York City’s mayor and the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has been disbarred “effective immediately” for his efforts to subvert the 2020 presidential election, a state appeals court ruled Tuesday.  A panel of judges in New York’s Appellate Division, First Department wrote that Giuliani “flagrantly misused” his position as an attorney for former President Trump and his campaign to make “intentionally” false statements to courts, lawmakers and the public.   “In so doing, respondent not only deliberately violated some of the most fundamental tenets of the legal profession, but he also actively contributed to the national strife that has followed the 2020 ...
Baltimore County, MD - July 2, 2024 - Last night, the Baltimore County Council made history! The council voted 5-1 to ask voters to expand our legislative body from seven to nine members with a ballot measure during the November General Election.Since adopting a charter-style government in 1956, Baltimore County has more than doubled in population, with each of the seven council members now representing about 123,000 residents. As a result, our county has grown and changed profoundly. It’s time to expand the council to provide a more reflective and equitable government to best serve all our residents. As the lead sponsor of this legislation, I’m proud to have championed this effort from the beginning to provide our residents this opportunity.

There is probably no field of science, where non-truths are turned into absolute facts and where false paradigms are built, more than in the world of nutrition.  I have seen “health coaches” on social media outlets talking about the great health advantages of consuming large amounts of animal protein (meat, chicken, fish, dairy and eggs) when overwhelming evidence indicates the opposite is true.  I have had clients who were put on ketogenic diets by their doctors all in the name of weight loss who are now battling chronic disease.  I received a message from a health coach last month pointing out how vegans have more bone fractures. There are contradicting studies in that department but even if true, compare that to the fact that healthy vegans outlive those who e...
Baltimore, MD – July 2, 2024  -   There have been several thefts of vehicles throughout the Baltimore County Police Pikesville Precinct area in the last seven days. Several of these thefts involved vehicles that were left running and several others were left unlocked. Even though you may be running into the store briefly or, even quickly back into your home, remember to always turn off your vehicle and lock it up. These thefts recently occurred on Winton Court, Stone Creek Place, Liberty Road, Slade Avenue, Plymouth Road, and Pheasant Cross Drive. Additionally, if you own a vehicle manufactured by Hyundai or Kia, we encourage you to contact an area dealership in order to determine if your vehicle is eligible for the anti-theft software update.
