Annapolis, MD - March 12, 2025  - As you may have observed, Hatzalah members typically drive to priority 1 emergencies with their vehicle lights activated in order to ensure they can respond as quickly and efficiently as possible. However, due to recent government guidance, this practice is now in jeopardy. Under the current law, they are no longer authorized to use their lights, and as a result, their permission to do so will be revoked. In response to this, Senator Dalya Attar has sponsored legislation in Annapolis aimed at amending the law to allow Hatzalah members to continue using their lights in order to respond to emergencies without delay. While similar efforts have been made in the past in Annapolis, these attempts unfortunately have not been successful, often encountering si...
Senate Democrats say the six-month government funding resolution that passed the House Tuesday is a “horrible” bill, but there’s growing sentiment within the Senate Democratic conference that it would be too risky to block the legislation and risk a government shutdown that could drag on for weeks. Senate Democrats battled behind closed doors Tuesday over how to handle the House bill, with a number of Democrats — especially those in swing states — arguing a government shutdown must be avoided, even if it means reluctantly voting for a House GOP-drafted bill. Several centrists warned there’s no clear endgame for ending a government shutdown if Democrats defeat the House-passed measure, which would increase defense spending by $6 billion, boost funding f...

IDF forces on Tuesday identified a four-year-old Gazan boy nearing an Israeli military post in the Gaza security zone. Following a quick investigation into the matter and discussions with security sources, the forces took care to return the child safely to Gaza, in coordination with the COGAT unit and the coordinator for the international community. While speaking to the soldiers, the child said that Hamas members had sent him to the post. The IDF noted that the fact that the Hamas terrorists used such a young child for their own purposes is yet another example of their methods which set no boundaries and use the Gazan civilian population - and especially children - to advance terror activities. The IDF condemned the incident, stressing that this is shameful and dangerous behavior...

Baltimore, MD - March 11, 2025 - A driver is fed up with people trying to steal her tires. Last summer, all four of Vanessa Strand's tires were stolen, and last month, thieves tried to do it again. This is a growing crime trend in Anne Arundel County that’s difficult to police. Thieves work quickly, typically overnight, and the lack of unique markings on tires makes them hard to trace, which may explain why there's been a surge in these thefts in the last few years. “I come around the corner and I knew something was wrong, because the car was leaning, it was sitting low. I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ And I could see the yellow crates. And they had took all four tires and rims,” Strand recounted. Fortunately, her insurance covered the damage. “It ...

The Department of Education announced Tuesday it was firing nearly half of its workforce, the latest Trump administration move to shrink the federal government that could face swift legal challenge. A senior department official said 1,315 staffers will be let go and received the notification Tuesday.   The Education Department started President Trump’s second term with more than 4,000 employees, but even before Tuesday, hundreds had already been put on leave or had taken a buyout offer.   After this reduction, there will be 2,183 employees left with the department, which Trump has repeatedly called to shutter completely. The senior official said the reduction in employees will not impact student aid, Free Application for Federal Student Aid forms, formula...
The House on Tuesday passed a funding bill to avert an end-of-the-week government shutdown, teeing up the measure for consideration in the Senate. The chamber cleared the continuing resolution (CR) in a largely party-line 217-213 vote, with just one Democrat — Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) — bucking his party’s leaders to back the measure. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) was the lone GOP “no” vote. The legislation would fund the government through Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year, while boosting funds for defense programs and imposing cuts to nondefense funding. Current funding expires at 11:59 p.m. Friday. “This was a big vote on the House floor, the Republicans stood together and we had one Democrat vote with us to do the ...
