Baltimore, MD – Apr. 26, 2023 –  Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced the expansion of the state's EBT card fraud reimbursement plan, following the recent passing of Senate Bill-2/HB50, reports FOX45. The new law allows EBT cardholders to reclaim benefits stolen from January 1, 2021, extending the reimbursement eligibility period by 21 months.

The General Assembly approved $1.8 million in state funds for reimbursing eligible adults and families, with approximately 1,095 additional households expected to recover over $826,000 in stolen cash and food assistance benefits. The new law aims to strengthen EBT card security and decrease fraud while making the reimbursement process as simple as possible for those affected.
