Baltimore, MD - Nov. 13, 2024  - Two Maryland men were indicted by a federal grand jury after allegedly tampering with vehicles to raise their resale prices, officials said. Jerry John Mathins, 50, of Laurel, and Braysean Owens, 23, of Baltimore, were charged with conspiracy to commit odometer tampering and three counts of securities fraud. According to the indictment, Owens purchased used vehicles with high mileages at auction. Then, Owens and Mathins altered the odometers of those vehicles to reflect a lower mileage before reselling them to unsuspecting buyers. Those resales went for sometimes thousands of dollars more than the vehicles would have sold for at their correct mileage. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office prioritizes protecting consumers from deceptive practices,&...

With just two months left in office, the Biden administration is contemplating unprecedented sanctions against Israel's National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir. According to sources familiar with the matter, the U.S. State Department is weighing this significant move in response to Ben-Gvir's controversial actions and statements, particularly concerning humanitarian aid to Gaza. The potential sanctions would mark a historic moment in U.S.-Israel relations, as they would be the first instance of the United States imposing sanctions on a sitting Israeli cabinet minister. State Department officials are reportedly urging Secretary of State Antony Blinken to approve these measures, which could serve as a counterbalance to the decision not to impose an arms embargo on Israel. Baltimore, MD - Nov. 13, 2024  -  A federal judge has denied, for a second time, Marilyn Mosby’s request to modify her home detention. Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby denied Mosby’s request to replace home detention with a curfew due to questions surrounding the former top prosecutor's job. Mosby and her defense team previously told the court and her probation agent that she had been hired to serve as the Director of Global Strategic Planning at an undisclosed California-based company. Although the company is headquartered in California, Mosby will be based in Maryland. “It’s not clear to the Court that the Defendant’s new position satisfies the conditions of her supervision,” court documents say. Judge Griggsby said Mosby has yet to provide t...
Whenever I have the zechus to go to the Torah Umesorah convention, I feel inspired and elevated that I am part of the world of Chinuch. As I arrived Thursday afternoon, I caught the end of the Executive Expo where Mr. Ralph Herzka was surrounded by numerous executive directors. They had just finished an “Elevator Pitch” where several mosdos were awarded $10K for an original idea for their mosod. The booths displayed so many vendors who service mosdos, from insurance to architect design and more. Big decisions were being made there. Wherever I walked there was Chinuch: Booths showcasing various curricula or ideas for schools; sessions where hundreds of mechanchim were gaining yet another valuable skill to help propel their talmidim; keynote sessions addressing some of the issue...

Harun Nasser al-Din, a senior Hamas official, stated that "our Palestinian people will continue to stick to their land and will not submit to the acts of destruction and expropriation carried out by the Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank in the occupied city of Jerusalem in order to carry out the annexation and deportation plan." According to him, "the criminal actions of the occupation will not push our people but to strengthen its steadfastness, its resilience and its hold on its land and holy places." He said that "increasing the acts of destruction and expropriation of Palestinian properties fits into the framework of the war of ...
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan claimed in a conversation with reporters today (Wednesday) that he HAS severed Turkey's relations with Israel. Erdogan's assertion came after a reporter asked him about the claims that his constant vitriol against Israel since the Hamas massacre of October 7, 2023, are mere rhetoric and that under the surface there is trade between Turkey and Israel. In response to this claim, Erdogan asked"Why are they doing this? They do it with the thought that it will wear down our government." He later clarified, "We as a country and as the government of the Republic of Turkey - have severed relations with Israel. We do not have any relations with Israel at this stage." "We stand by Palestine and we will demand that the dictator Netanyahu and his g...

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has rejected the accusations that Israel is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip and scolded the MP who made them. During a Prime Minister's Questions session in the House of Commons on Wednesday, MP Ayoub Khan, an Independent representing Birmingham Perry Barr, stated: "Genocide is not about numbers. It's about intent. And the intent of the Israeli government and the IDF has been explicitly clear in words and inactions over the past 400 days”. According to him, there were “more than 45,000 innocent men, women and children killed”, without mentioning that those casualty figures, provided by the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, do not distinguish between terrorists and civilians. Being that Starmer and his Defence Secretary D...

President-elect Trump and former President Biden sat down for a meeting in the Oval Office on Wednesday, just over a week after the former president’s decisive win back to the White House. “Politics is tough and in many cases it’s not a nice world, but it is a nice world today,” Trump said while the two leaders sat by the fireplace. Biden congratulated Trump on his victory, having once been his chief political opponent before dropping out of the 2024 race in July. Biden repeatedly warned that another Trump term would damage democracy but has since pledged to follow tradition and provide Trump’s team with a smooth transition. “Congratulations and I look forward to having a smooth transition,” Biden said. “It w...

An IDF investigation nearing its conclusion shows that a few hours before the October 7 massacre, intelligence information began to pile up with the IDF, and it was passed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's military secretary. At 2:00a.m. on the morning of October 7, the IDF received worrying information regarding the activation of many SIM cards throughout Gaza. Over the next two hours, additional indications of Hamas' intentions were received that indicated emergency activity. The intelligence chief in Netanyahu's office was updated on the information at around 4:00a.m. that same morning, and told of the indications. In a phone conversation with a soldier in the intelligence community, he confirmed receipt of the information. However, it ...
A CIA official has been charged with leaking highly classified US documents about Israel’s potential plan to strike back against Iran over a missile attack. Asif W. Rahman, who worked overseas for the agency and held a top secret security clearance, was arrested by the FBI in Cambodia on Tuesday over the leaks, the New York Times reported. His arrest comes after the top secret materials started circulating online last month detailing Israel’s apparent intention to retaliate after Iran launched a barrage of missiles back on Oct. 1.   The files, which were prepared by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency detailed, in part, satellite imagery tied to the potential Israeli strike, as well as the various kinds of missiles on hand. The top secr...
The U.S. economy grew at a faster pace than expected at the beginning of 2024 as consumers continued to open their wallets despite ongoing inflation and high interest rates.  Gross domestic product, the broadest measure of goods and services produced across the economy, grew by 2.8% on an annualized basis in the three-month period from April through June, the Commerce Department said in its first reading of the data on Thursday.  That is much higher than the 2% increase forecast by LSEG economists and the 1.4% pace seen during the first quarter.  "The U.S. economy is much stronger than people realize and to the extent that markets were worried about a growth slowdown, they should breathe a sigh of relief after this morning’s GDP number," said Chris Zacca...
