We are each at various stages of our journey in life.
How different does each Elul seem in terms of our growth and spiritual accomplishments vis a vis the previous years?

Master mechaneches Miriam Mintz, Z'L, leaves a powerful legacy of greatness
In the Lamdeinu learning center at The Talmudical Academy of Baltimore, Miriam (Fink) Mintz’s imprint is everywhere—not only on the chairs and desktops where she worked with students for a decade, but in the minds and hearts of those students–all with various educational needs–to whom she was devoted. Then there are Miriam’s coworkers, alongside whom she learned and sometimes trained. Even the center’s hard drive is packed with material that Miriam created. She herself, however, is no longer there.
Just a few weeks ago, Miriam Mintz, a master special educator, tragically passed away at age 30 due to complications during a fertility procedure.

A judge on Thursday threw out three charges in the sweeping Georgia election subversion case, including two charges that former President Donald Trump faces.
The decision hasn’t yet been formally applied to Trump because his case has been paused pending appeals.
In a separate ruling, Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee also upheld the marquee racketeering charge in the case, which Trump is also facing.
Trump lawyer Steve Sadow hailed the rulings as a victory.
“President Trump and his legal team in Georgia have prevailed once again,” Sadow said in a statement. “The trial court has decided that counts 15 and 27 in the indictment must be quashed/dismissed.”

Donald Trump appeared to definitely rule out another debate with Kamala Harris, a day after sending mixed signals following their clash in Philadelphia.
“Kamala should focus on what she should have done during the last almost four year period,” Trump wrote Thursday, in all caps, on social media. “There will be no third debate!”
Trump claimed he won the Tuesday debate with the vice president, through she was widely seen as having the better night. “When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, “I WANT A REMATCH,” he wrote.
Asked if Trump was in fact ruling out a debate, a spokeswoman said in an email, “You heard the man!”

Israeli ground forces targeted an Iranian missile production facility in Syria during a strike this week attributed to Israel, according to Middle East expert Eva J. Koulouriotis, who specializes in jihadist groups and cited a security source. Koulouriotis wrote on X that special Israeli forces entered the facility, removed equipment, and then destroyed the site.
On Sunday evening, reports indicated that Israel had carried out a wide-scale attack in the region, which included strikes on a scientific research center believed by Western sources to be responsible for developing non-conventional weapons.

RAFAH, Gaza Strip — The Hamas terror group’s Rafah Brigade has been decimated, at least 2,308 of its operatives have been killed by the Israel Defense Forces, and over 13 kilometers (8 miles) worth of tunnels have been destroyed, military officials told reporters in the Gaza Strip’s southernmost city on Thursday.
Now, as the IDF maintains control of the entire city and the border area with Egypt, known as the Philadelphi Corridor, combat engineers are completing their investigations of a few dozen Hamas tunnels that have not yet been demolished, an operation that will not take longer than a few weeks.

Baltimore, MD - Sept. 12, 2024 - (WBAL) Rasheed Morris, 19, was sentenced to life in prison with all but 40 years suspended for the 2021 murder of Israeli visitor Efraim Gordon. Morris, who was 16 at the time, fatally shot Gordon during an attempted carjacking on Fords Lane. Upon his release, Morris will serve five years of probation. Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates emphasized the significance of delivering justice to Gordon’s family, who have been deeply affected by the tragedy. Following a model already operating successfully in more than twenty states, H.R. 9462 will provide $5 billion in scholarships to cover expenses facing public and private school children. It does this by allowing a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit for taxpayers who contribute to Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGO). These SGOs would then provide scholarships for a range of educational expenses, including private school tuition.

With the passing of Rav Aharon Schechter (1929-2023) on 8/24/23, I would like to share what impact Yeshiva Chaim Berlin had on our lives, as 2 of the Ner Yisroel Roshei HaYeshiva learned there.
I was zoche to meet the Rosh HaYeshiva (R’ Schechter) 3 times (and twice even asked him for a bracha.) When I saw him in 2018, I remember the zerizus he went into davening albeit using a walker. I was also zoche to meet the current Rosh HaYeshiva, Shlomo Halioua, (1959-), pronounced: Haliwa in 2006 and mentioned that it was so nice that such a prestigious and large Yeshiva embraces a practicing sefardi in a mechanech position and Baruch Hashem Ner Yisroel does as well.

Baltimore City, MD — Sept. 11, 2024 - While the pandemic itself feels far behind us, a federal COVID funding deadline is now right around the corner. Leaving Baltimore City with millions left to spend in a short amount of time.
In 2021, Baltimore City was handed $641 million from the American Rescue Plan (ARPA). But the one-time gift from the federal government came with two deadlines. All of the money must be obligated by the end of 2024 and spent by the end of 2026. Whatever remains after those deadlines pass will be returned to the U.S. Department of Treasury.
