Baltimore, MD - Sept. 10, 2024 - It appears Baltimore County found its new fire chief in Florida.
On Tuesday Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski nominated Joseph W. Dixon to head the fire department.
Dixon recently resigned as fire chief in Ganiesville, Florida, after spending three years at the helm.
The nearly 30 year fire vet is no stranger to Maryland, in fact he was born here, and served 25 years with Howard County Fire and Rescue, reaching the rank of operations chief, before retiring in 2018.
If approved by the county council, Dixon would become Baltimore County's first Black fire chief.
He would replace Interim Chief Scott Ebbert who took over after former chief Joanne Rund retired in July.
“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as the ...

Daniel Kerins, 67, has been charged with theft and malicious destruction of property.

Charging documents say, the footage from the camera shows a man looking into the lens of the camera right before the video feed from the camera died.
The next incident was on August 14, when police were contacted by the Verra Mobility field tech, the company that holds the contract for Baltimore's speed cameras.

The IDF confirmed publicly on Tuesday that it mistakenly killed three Israeli hostages along with Hamas Gaza City Brigade Chief Admed An-Dur in December, which, until now, officials had only hinted to.
Back in December, the IDF revealed finding five hostage bodies, three of which related to the incident in question.
Unlike the IDF's usual briefing, it did not blame Hamas for their deaths and dropped hints that its air strike might have killed the three hostages but said it would not confirm anything until after a forensics probe.
Overnight between Monday and Tuesday, the IDF finally confirmed that it had killed the three when Channel 12 reported the military had passed on the information to the hostage families but was withholding an announcement from the public.
The IDF...

The What
Earlier pieces in this series explained how we view the world and ourselves. Though these topics are a critical part of our foundational perspective, they are more about the big picture and less about the details of our mission.
We saw that the world and man were created for the glory of G-d’s name, but how do we glorify His Name? Our world is the corridor where we gain entry to the next one, but what actions here earn us entry into the next world?
We saw that Hashem created us with the ability (and free choice) to accomplish and grow, but what are we meant to achieve? In what ways are we meant to grow?
Mitzvot
The first answer to this question is obviously mitzvah observance. When Hashem created the first man, He immediately began issuing directives — He ...

Washington D.C. — The Hamilton Lincoln Law Institute (HLLI) filed a lawsuit yesterday afternoon, September 9, concerning the April 15, 2024 blockade of the main entrance into O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, which snarled traffic for three hours and trapped innocent travelers in their cars
HLLI’s client was among the victims. He missed his flight, spent most of his day rerouting, and then missed a work function that night at his destination. Other travelers were forced to abandon taxis and rideshares, and trudged more than a mile to the airport.
The client brings his complaint as a class action on behalf of thousands of others falsely imprisoned in their cars or otherwise displaced by the blockade. The case defends the rights of citizens unlawfully impeded by an...

IDF Col. (Res.) Golan Vach was seriously injured Tuesday morning when a tunnel shaft collapsed on him in central Gaza.
Col. Vach was rescued from the tunnel and taken to the hospital in stable condition. His family was informed of his injuries.
Col. Vach served as commander of search and rescue operations in southern Israel following the Hamas massacre of October 7. He also commanded multiple search and rescue units abroad in recent years, including the IDF search and rescue unit in Turkey following the massive earthquake of February 2023 and the Israeli search and rescue unit in Miami following the 2021 Surfside building collapse.
He fought in Gaza alongside IDF soldier Yossi Hershkovitz, who fell in battle. Vach told them that during the activity in the G...

Michael Plati, the office of protective operations assistant director, has been asked to retire from his position, and he is ending his tenure with the service in the coming days.
The decision is reportedly linked with the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania — a security failure that has sent shock waves through all levels of the agency.
The USSS is preparing to brief Congress in the coming days about lessons learned from the July 13 attempt on Trump's life.
Plati was asked to step down by senior leadership, including Acting Director Ronald Rowe.

We need your help!
The first step in our community’s current struggle to obtain tuition and other educational relief for our families is scheduled for this Wednesday, September 11, when the House Ways and Means Committee will consider a multi-billion-dollar tax credit proposal entitled the “Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA)” (H.R. 9462). This bill has gained momentum in Congress and is the fastest and surest way to bring school choice to all 50 states.
We need you to urge your representatives to support the bill.
ECCA offers one critical form of “school choice” – methods that lessen the financial burden on parents and provide broader options for parents to choose schools best suited for their children, whether they b...

Baltimore, MD – Sept. 10, 2024 – 8:25AM - An accident on Northern Parkway at 83 on-ramps has traffic backed up on both sides of Northern Parkway and will impact anyone getting on or off 83.
Traffic lights are out on Northern Parkway at Falls Road and Kelly at Falls Road.
Reminder: The rule for when traffic lights are out is to come to a stop at the light and to treat the intersection or roadway as a regular stop. If it is a four-way intersection, treat it like a four-way stop. If it is a two- or three-way intersection, treat it as a two- or three-way stop, respectively. The same right-of-way rules also apply, such as allowing vehicles in or at the stop first to proceed first and allowing the vehicle on the right to proceed if two vehicles arrive at the stop at the same time.
Baltimore, MD - Sept. 9, 2024 - The excitement was palpable this past Friday afternoon, as Kehillas Derech Chaim prepared to move into their brand-new building on Pimlico Road. Balloon pillars and a personal cake for each family to take home for Shabbos were neatly waiting at the entrance for the influx of eager men, women and children to come. Rabbi Pinchas Gross, the Rav of the shul, along with the entire kehilla and all the local Rabbanim of Baltimore, danced the sifrei Torah down the block and into the majestic Aron Kodesh inside the shul. Sincere joy and passion radiated from the hearts and faces of every man, woman and child as they escorted the sifrei Torah to their new shared home.
After ten years of growth and development into the beautiful kehilla of over 200 families, B'H,...
“Calls for a negotiated ceasefire with Hamas are not only immoral – they’re dangerous.”
This is the stark warning delivered by SA Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein, following recent pressure on Israel from Western countries – including Israel’s closest ally, the US – to finalize a deal with the Gaza-based, Iranian-backed terror group.
“By demanding a negotiated ceasefire instead of surrender,” says Goldstein, “the world sends Hamas – and all Jihadi terrorists – a dangerous message: no matter what you do, no matter what evil you perpetrate, you will always be able to extract compromises and concessions. Your violence, intimidation, and terror works.”
This, he believes, dramatically increases the risk of a terror att...

Former head of the National Security Council and Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security (JISS) fellow Yaakov Amidror spoke on the state of affairs in the fight against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon in a recent interview with Radio 103FM.
"The intense phase of the fighting is behind us, and now we must ensure that Hamas does not rebuild itself as a major threat," he said.
"The IDF must maintain operational flexibility and be able to act in accordance with the needs on the ground," Amidror added.
Concerning the October 7 failures, Amidror stated, "There is no direct connection between the failure that day and what the IDF is doing now. Most of the officers and fighters in Gaza today are not responsible for the failure of October 7," he noted, adding ...
CEO of the World Betar Movement, Yigal Brand, called on Monday for Jews in New York and the general US to be protected.
In his remarks, Brand joined similar calls made by members of the Betar movement, warning Jews not to visit New York City amid the rise in antisemitism in the city.
“The situation is dire, and we call on the authorities in New York to free the hands of the police and allow it to act with decisiveness against the criminals and put them on trial,” Brand said.
He added that the World Betar Movement would continue to operate independently to protect New York Jews and the broader American Jewish community.
