Thousands came out to pay their respects on Sunday to Yamam Squad Commander Chief Inspector Arnon Zamora, z'l, H'yd, who fell in during the operation to rescue four hostages from Hamas captivity. Mivaseret Tzion Local Council Head Yoram Shimon called on residents to pay last respects and to stand at the sides of the road as the officer's body was brought for burial in the police section of the Mount Herzl Cemetary in Jerusalem. The commanding officer of the Yamam eulogized Arnon: "Yesterday, after a long preparation, the Yamam operated to bring back hostages. The mission was a success, we brought joy and comfort to the people of Israel. The price the Yamam paid is unbearable. We prepared a lot, we trained non-stop, and we knew the mission was very dangerous. Arnon was a br...
Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators on Saturday surrounded the perimeter of the White House with a "red line" banner. Protesters told media outlets the connected pieces of red fabric that made up the banner, which they believed would stretch for two miles, was meant to symbolize a red line they were drawing for President Joe Biden over his support for Israel in the war on Gaza. Biden said in May that he would pause U.S. weapons being sent to Israel if the country's forces went into areas of Rafah. The White House later said Israel had not crossed the president's "red line" with its operations. Names of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces were reportedly written on the red banner that encircled the White House. Alejandro Alvarez, a reporter and photogra...

According to the report, Noa was held by Abdallah Aljamal, "a photojournalist and writer/editor for both Al-Jazeera and the Palestinian Chronicle. The hostages who were freed from captivity during Saturday’s rescue operation in Nuseirat told the medical teams that they were emotionally abused while in captivity and that the terrorists forced them to read the Quran and learn Islamic rulings. Channel 13 News reported that Noa Argamani told her family members that she was in captivity together with Yossi Sharabi and Itay Svirsky, who were killed while in Hamas captivity. Later, the IDF acknowledged that Sharabi was likely killed during an attack on a building near the place where he was held, and that Svirsky was murdered a few days later. Noa told her family, "I saw the missile enter the house, I was sure I was going to die. I thought that was it - but I remained alive." Noa also said that th...
The hallowed cornerstone of kashrus. בחלב אמו אל תבשל, Do not eat a goat in the milk of its mother. The Torah repeats this prohibition מצות לא עשה three times,1 instructing us that we must not eat, cook or derive benefit from a combination of milk and meat. To distance ourselves from an inadvertent mistake, safeguards have been instituted and implemented by Chazal to preserve the integrity of the essential מצות לא עשה.To this end, every kosher kitchen has two separate sets of pots, pans, cutlery and dishes. Similarly, if two people are eating together at the same table, one eating meat and the other eating dairy, the Shulchan Aruch instructs us to make a distinguishing separation between the two friends to avoid an inadvertent nibble.2 Moreover...
A Weekly Shtikle mazal tov to my nephew Eliyahu Boruch Shonek of Far Rockaway on his recent engagement to Tova Fine of Monsey. Mazal tov to the extended Bulka and Shonek mishpachos. One of the points of interest concerning the census is the discrepancy between the population of the tribe of Levi as compared to all other tribes. The tally of the tribe of Levi was 22,300, almost 10,000 short of the lowest tally amongst the other tribes, Menasheh's 32,200. But the Leviim were counted from one month old whereas the rest of the nation was counted from 20 years old so their numbers are even more unusually low. Ramba"n notes this point and offers two explanations: 1) B'nei Yisrael's dramatic increase in population was a result of the subjugation in Mitzrayim. As the pasuk (Shemos...
Noa Argamani, who was rescued Saturday morning in a complex and daring operation from the Nuseirat "refugee camp" in Gaza, arrived Saturday evening at Tel Aviv's Ichilov Hospital, where her mother Liora, who is battling terminal cancer, is hospitalized. Noa was held on the first floor of a building in Nuseirat, a few hundred meters from the building in which three other hostages - Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov, and Shlomi Ziv - were held. Speaking to her family, Noa said that on Saturday morning, she heard loud knocks on her door. "She told me that 'out of nowhere' suddenly they told her that it's the IDF. 'We came to rescue you.' She was in shock," said Argamani's relative Asaf Shahibi at Sheba Tel Hashomer, where the released hostages were ...
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant commented on Operation Arnon, the operation to rescue the hostages from Nuseirat, and praised all the forces involved. "I have recently returned from the command and control center following the operation to rescue four hostages from Gaza," he said. "This is one of the most heroic and extraordinary operations I have witnessed over the course of 47 years serving in Israel’s defense establishment. IDF, ISA and Special Forces, as well as the forces who supported those in the field, have conducted an unprecedented operation - daring in nature, planned brilliantly and executed in an extraordinary fashion. The various security agencies cooperated closely - the IDF, ISA and Special Forces - acting as one single unit." "Our troops showed so much courage -...

The first ground forces to enter Nuseirat were reported to have arrived in civilian trucks, quickly reaching and entering the buildings where the hostages were held under heavy fire. Kan 11 News, citing Arab sources, detailed that these initial moments of the rescue coincided with a broad attack by the Israeli Air Force in the area. It was during this time that additional forces, including tanks from the 7th Armored Corps, paratroopers, and Kfir soldiers, converged to support the Yamam teams and facilitate the hostages' escape amidst...
Yamam Squad Commander Chief Inspector Arnon Zamora, H'yd, fell Shabbos in the battle which led to the release of four hostages held captive in Gaza. Yamam is Israel's National Counterterrorism Unit. Zamora led the force which rescued the hostages, but was injured in the battle. Later on Saturday, he died of his wounds. The IDF described: "Arnon Zamora, 36, a brave and valuable officer, left behind a wife and two children. On October 7th, he led the battle at the Yad Mordechai Junction, eliminating dozens of terrorists and preventing the terrorists from infiltrating northwards. He then went on to fight in the battle at Kibbutz Nahal Oz and Kibbutz Be'eri." "Arnon was part of the force that broke into the apartment where the hostages were being held, was severely inju...

Parshas Bamidbar commences with the tziva from Hashem to once again take a census of Bnei Yisroel.  (Bamidbar 1:2) Hashem is very explicit that the census is to be taken “according to their families and according to their father’s household”. (1:2) The Torah then recites the tally for each family (except Shevet Levi, who was excluded from the count) (1:48) reaching a total of 603,550 (1:46).  This stands in stark contrast to the census taken in Parshas P’kudei where the tally was taken of the entire B’nei Yisroel, without any regard to the amount in each particular Shevet.  (Pikudei, 38:26)  This raises two significant questions.  First, why are we doing another census so close to when the last one was done?  Second, why in the 2...
Baltimore, MD - June 7, 2024 -  (FOX45) In north Baltimore, an Israeli flag mounted by Dr. John Parkerson in October has been vandalized twice in the last eight months. The latest incident, captured on security footage, shows a vehicle stopping to rip the flag from its flagpole. This occurred while three other flags at Parkerson's office remained untouched. Parkerson, expressing dismay over the act, views it as a hate crime and has reported the incident to city police and the Maryland Attorney General's Office. He states his intent was simply to show support for the Jewish-American community, not to provoke.
