People who live in a busy area of Baltimore County will have a chance to learn more about plans to develop a large apartment building next to the White Marsh Mall. Neighbors of the proposed project are concerned the development would cause excess traffic and school overcrowding. Wednesday’s meeting is to view details on the project and hear county officials' comments on the development plan, which is to place a 516 unit apartment building next to the White Marsh Mall in the area of the old Sears store. Neighbors in the area might have more than 1,000 new neighbors if zoning is approved to build a new apartment building on site. Property managers plan to redevelop the old retail site into a new four-story residential building containing a mix of everything from studio apartme...
It was a snowy day in Baltimore and school was canceled. My brother Shua was sitting and learning in the Agudah of Baltimore when his rebbi, Rabbi Juravel came over with pride and gave him a dollar! Shua felt like a million dollars that his rebbi had noticed him using his time wisely and rewarded him as well. Shua went home and put the dollar in an envelope, sealed it and wrote that he had received this dollar from Rabbi Juravel on this date for his learning when school was canceled. For decades this envelope sat in his drawer. I had seen it numerous times and wondered what was such a big deal about this dollar? I believe we all knew as children that Rabbi Juravel wasn’t just a regular rebbi. He was someone from bygone times, so razor focused on what was important in life. A dollar ...
Baltimore, MD - March 22, 2023 — Coalition for Jewish Values (CJV), representing over 2,000 traditional, Orthodox rabbis in American public policy, today announced the launch of CJV Missouri, to pursue its mission of promoting traditional Jewish values with legislators, media, and the public at the state and local level. It is the first state chapter of the CJV and will be chaired by Rabbi Ze’ev Smason, who has served as Midwestern Regional Vice President of the organization since 2020, and who recently retired after decades leading Nusach Hari B’nai Zion Congregation in St. Louis. “Missourians generally uphold traditional values,” said Rabbi Smason, CJV’s Midwestern Regional Vice President and Chairman of CJV-MO, “yet today are confronted with di...
Getting ready for Passover in Israel this holiday season might be a little harder this year due to some meat shortages across the country. With Ramadan around the corner and Passover falling not so far afterward, many people, Jews and Muslims, are stocking up their homes with food and people should expect to see shortages of both chicken and beef as well as higher prices. "Just before the holiday, food prices are rampant," Chairman of the Israel Beitenu party MK Avigdor Lieberman wrote on his Twitter with a screenshot from Walla! of food prices on chickens. "Finance Minister Smotrich is in Paris, Deri is busy with Deri Law 1 and 2 and Netanyahu is busy with legislation that will allow him to receive gifts. This lawlessness comes at the expense of all the citizens of I...

Meet Joe.  Joe was a client of mine over the course of a decade. He first came into my program when he was in his 50’s.  He was already suffering from heart disease and diabetes.  On top of that, he was a cancer survivor and was obese. Joe was on multiple medications and he received our standard care at that time and made progress.  He lost some weight, began exercising more consistently, and made many improvements in his diet.  And yes, he did see some positive results.  Sugar levels and cholesterol did improve somewhat. But he never saw the breakthrough we wanted to enable him to eliminate his medications, lose significant weight and reverse his diabetes and heart disease.  When Joe returned to my program 2 years after he left, the weight he lost ...
A new poll conducted for the haredi news website Kikar Hashabbat has revealed extremely high support for the government's judicial reform package among the haredi population, despite dire warnings from those on the Left that the reforms will lead to economic hardship. The poll surveyed over a thousand people and was taken following Israeli President Isaac Herzog's presentation of his so-called "People's Outline" for judicial reform, billed as a compromise by Herzog but decried as totally one-sided by the coalition, which rejected it outright. The opposition, which declined to participate in talks with Herzog prior to the crafting of the outline (while the coalition sent representatives to speak with the president on dozens of occasions), adopted the outl...
The office of Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Monday issued a statement condemning Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who said at an event in Paris on Sunday that “there is no such thing as a Palestinian people.” "This truth should be heard here in the Elysee Palace. This truth should also be heard by the Jewish people in the State of Israel who are a little confused, this truth should be heard in the White House in Washington. The whole world needs to hear this truth, because it is the truth - and the truth will win," said Smotrich in his remarks. In its statement, Abbas’ office stated that "the racist statement of the extremist Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich, who denied the existence of the Palestinian people, is an attempt to fals...
Smotrich hails legislation: 'What you vote for is what you get!' Israel’s parliament struck down its 2005 Disengagement Law early Tuesday, making Israeli presence in evacuated settlements in the West Bank legal. The legislation passed on second and third readings by a 31-18 vote, making it law. In 2005, Israel unilaterally withdrew from all settlements in Gaza and four in the northern West Bank. The new legislation paves the way for Israelis to return to these sites after an 18-year ban, a huge victory for Israel’s settlement movement. One of the settlements, Homesh, housed an outpost with a Yeshiva, or religious Jewish school, that was slated for destruction.
'The Zionist vision that inspired us – and all the immigrants who came before us – has been hijacked by extremists who threaten the fabric of this country' More than 1,600 new immigrants to Israel wrote a letter to the Israeli government demanding a halt to legal reform, Israeli media reported. In the letter, the immigrants asked to freeze the legislation which will be partially voted on by the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, early next month. The immigrant group, “Olim for Democracy,” also called on the Jewish Agency to take action on the issue. In addition, the letter reached the country's president, Isaac Herzog, who previously proposed a compromise plan. The signatories to the letter come from a variety of backgrounds, includ...
"Our task now is to return to the settlements in Gush Katif and rebuild them" Following the Knesset's approved repeal of the 2005 law on disengagement from northern West Bank settlements, some members of the government's right-wing coalition indicated that the return of Israelis to Gush Katif in the southern Gaza Strip would be their next goal.  Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) MK Limor Son Har-Melech called for the repeal of the Gush Katif disengagement law and the restoration of the four evacuated West Bank settlements as soon as possible. "We have infinite joy for a historic correction, but we must continue the mission until it is completed," Limor Son Har-Melech said in his speech to the Israeli parliament.
Saudi Arabia's statement comes after Jordan, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates condemned Smotrich's remarks Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on Tuesday condemning Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich for a speaking appearance in Paris where a map of "Greater Israel" was presented that included the West Bank and the Kingdom of Jordan within Israel's borders and his claim that "there is no such thing as Palestinian people." “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's condemnation and denunciation of the offensive and racist statements made by an official in the Israeli occupation government against the State of Palestine and its brotherly people,” the ministry said in a statemen...
