Israeli Consul-General in Shanghai Eddie Shapira was held in a medical facility for 10 days, as part of China's zero-COVID policy, he wrote on Facebook over the weekend. Shapira said the "conditions are reminiscent of a prison," and that he experienced "the 10 most bizarre days that I could imagine." The diplomat caught COVID-19 with mild symptoms, he recounted. "The problem is that I caught it in the wrongest place on earth - in China," Shapira wrote. "Here, they take cases of morbidity as seriously as though three years haven't passed and they have not learned anything and are for total separation of anyone exposed to those who are sick. The sick people themselves are put in special hospitals."

The White House on Saturday blasted former President Donald Trump, after he suggested on his Truth Social platform that the Constitution be suspended due to what he called the “massive fraud” of the 2020 election. Trump’s posts came after Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, released information about Twitter's role in limiting access to a story about Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden. “So, with the revelation of MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION in working closely with Big Tech Companies, the DNC, & the Democrat Party, do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION?" Trump wrote. "A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all ru...
Last week, HaRav Rabbi Shlomo Machpud was on his way to perform a bris, but a traffic jam changed his plans. After speaking with the newborn's parents on the phone the Rav understood that the two were traveling in separate cars and were also stuck in the jam. While attempting to get around the traffic so the bris milah can take place before shkiah, the father illegally overtook another vehicle and was unluckily caught and stopped by police. Ten minutes before shkiah, while still stuck in traffic and the father held up by police, HaRav Machpud decided to ask the mother where she is. When she answered that she is stuck in traffic near Ben Gurion Airport, the Rav made a U-turn and arrived at her car. And that way, two minutes before shkiah, HaRav Machpud managed to perform the bris, w...

Iran also considering changes to law requiring women to wear the hijab Iran has abolished its controversial morality police, the prosecutor general said on Sunday. "Morality police have nothing to do with the judiciary" and have been abolished, Attorney General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri was quoted as saying late Saturday by the ISNA news agency. I am accustomed to meeting tourists at the Kotel (Western Wall) for Kabbalat Shabbat, but the tourists I met at the Kotel in the women's section this past Shabbat were a surprise. Suddenly behind me I heard several women speaking fluent Russian. I turned around and saw more women like them filling the plaza in a large circle. They were holding prayer books and began to sing Kabbalat Shabbat songs slowly together. And then one of the group's guides explained to me that this was even more amazing than I might think, as she pointed to two parts of the circle. "In this part of the circle, there are around a hundred women who have come from Russia. In that part of the circle over there, there are sixty women from Ukraine. They came to Israel under the auspices of Momentum, an organizat...

He looked out at a city of lights and searched for its unseen designer. Noticing that a human being finally discerned Him, the divine architect of this grand city looked back and revealed Himself to Avraham. For thousands of years people were too engrossed in survival mode to probe their world and pursue its Creator. By following his spirit of curiosity Avraham was first to discover a supreme being. Four hundred years later that divine architect had receded from view and, once again, needed to be discovered by a human. The chosen and favored children of Hashem had been enslaved in a dark Egyptian exile. Who would liberate them from slavery, march them to the mountain of Hashem, and deliver the divine will? Only someone whose imagination was ignited by curiosity. This shepherd, named Moshe...

The expulsion of terrorist Salah Hamouri to France has been delayed by four days. Hamouri, a terrorist affiliated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and a citizen of France, was convicted in the past of planning to murder Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
