Israel Police on Saturday afternoon announced that a suspicious object found Saturday morning was not an explosive device. Earlier, the object had been reported to be a pipe bomb, placed near the Chords Bridge at the entrance to the city and found during proactive searches of the area. Following the object's discovery, roads at the entrance to the city were closed off. The object was neutralized by police sappers, and thereafter taken for examination, which revealed that it was not, in fact, a pipe bomb. On Wednesday morning, a double bombing attack at two bus stops in Jerusalem left one person dead and 18 injured. The first explosion occurred at a bus stop on Sha'arei Yerushalayim Street near the entrance to Jerusalem. Shortly afterwards, a second explosion was reported in t...
Israel Railways will not operate trains on Motzaei Shabbos due to a need to ensure the stability of the signals system prior to Sunday morning. During the night, comprehensive tests will be conducted on all parts of the signals system, both computerized and those placed on the tracks themselves.Free transportation will be provided at most train stations, and Israel Railways recommends the use of alternate forms of public transportation. Earlier on Saturday it was reported that due to a national signals problem which caused the central signals system to fail intermittently and which did not allow for the safe operation of trains until it is corrected, it was decided to delay the start of the trains' operations following the end of Shabbat (the Jewish Sabbath). Ford Motor Co. is recalling over 634,000 SUVs worldwide because a cracked fuel injector can spill fuel or leak vapors onto a hot engine and cause fires. The recall covers Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs from the 2020 through 2023 model years. All have 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engines. The Dearborn, Michigan, automaker said Thursday it's not recommending that owners stop driving the vehicles or park them outdoors because fires are rare and generally don't happen when the engines are off. But Ford said it has received 20 reports of fires, including three that ignited nearby structures. The company also said it has four claims of fires that were noticed less than five minutes after the engines were turned off. Ford also has four injury claims not involving burns, and 43 legal claim...
This week's shtikle is dedicated le'iluy nishmas my rebbe and Rosh HaYeshivah of Yeshivas Ner Yisroel, Harav Yaakov Moshe Kulefsky, zt"l (Yaakov Moshe ben Refael Nissan Shlomo) whose 22nd yahrtzeit is this coming Sunday, the 3rd of Kisleiv.   When Eisav returns from his hunting escapades, he is so mortally fatigued that he was willing to give up his first-born rights for a simple bowl of lentils. After Yaakov and Eisav finally agree, the pasuk recounts (25:34) that Yaakov gave Eisav bread and lentil soup. Why did Yaakov give him bread? That was never part of the deal. R' Ari Storch, in "Tif'eres Aryeh," offers a novel approach. This sale is altogether puzzling as the first born-rights have not ...

ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 1,131 hiring managers in November, asking them about their views of Jewish individuals and their perspectives on antisemitism in the workplace. What did they find in their survey? Their survey showed that 26% of hiring managers say they are less likely to move forward with Jewish applicants. When asked why, 38% said that "Jews have too much power and control," which is also tied to another 38% who said, "Jews claim to be the 'chosen people.'" A few of the other "reasons" were that "Jews have too much wealth", "Jews are greedy", "Jews killed Jesus," and many other antisemitism responses, according to the ResumeBuilder survey. Another 26% of hiring managers make assumptions about whether or not the applicant is Jewish based on their looks an...
Online safety experts say this will spur a rise in harassment, hate speech and misinformation Elon Musk said late Thursday that he will provide "general amnesty" to suspended accounts on Twitter starting next week, after running a poll on whether to do so for users who had not broken the law or engaged in egregious spam. Out of the roughly 3.2K votes Musk polled, 72.4% were in favor of bringing back users who had been suspended by the platform.     “The people have spoken. Amnesty begins next week. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk tweeted using a Latin phrase meaning “the voice of the people, the voice of God.” Open to all users, polls on Twitter are notoriously unreliable and potentially targeted by fake accounts and bots. Last week, Musk reinstated...
With Itamar Ben-Gvir to serve as the Minister for National Security Likud, the part of Israel's prime minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu, reached on Friday an initial coalition agreement with the far-right Jewish Power party that will see leader Itamar Ben-Gvir appointed the Minister for National Security. It is understood the post represents a version of the Public Security portfolio with an expanded purview that also includes the Real Estate Enforcement division and the West Bank Border Police division. Additionally, Ben-Gvir's party will be tasked with Negev and Galilee ministry—which will now be decoupled from the Social Periphery Ministry—and the Heritage Ministry.  Amichai Eliyahu will preside over the latter, while the Negev and Galilee Ministry wi...

"During the day, energy companies plan to reconnect electricity for all consumers on an alternating basis," he wrote on Telegram, as temperatures approached freezing. Could it really happen here?  Could “it” – the kind of antisemitism that morphs and mutates into violent hate and rage – really happen here, in America?  We hear too many individuals – celebrities, “influencers”, politicians, media personalities – speaking the “dog whistle” messages out loud.  We hear ancient, hateful tropes “normalized”.  We hear in criticism of Israel much more than legitimate policy differences.  All conspiring to force the question, Could it happen here? Already, we have witnessed too many acts of violence and trespass against our people and our institutions; too many instances where voices have been raised without being shouted down, too many acts that seem to find approv...
