Bruce Reinhart, the federal judge in Florida who signed the warrant allowing the FBI to raid former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property on Tuesday, has been hit with a wave of antisemitic threats online.  The outburst has appeared on right-wing social media platforms and message boards, where users have published the judge’s name, address and personal information. Threats have been directed at his children and supposed family members as well.  Reinhart, who appears to be a member of the board of Temple Beth David in Palm Beach Gardens, has been a magistrate judge for the Southern District of Florida since 2018.  The Mar-a-Lago raid concerned confidential documents that Trump allegedly removed from the White House when he left in 20...
Senator John Neely Kennedy (R-LA) claimed on Thursday that the recent economic bill passed by the Senate would double the size of the IRS and that it will have "more agents, or soldiers, than the entire Israeli army." The claim was made in a live television interview with Fox News.  According to a 2021 assessment by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the IDF has approximately 169,500 active personnel. The IRS currently has about 80,000 employees according to the Associated Press. This includes much more than just enforcement officers; there are clerical workers, customer service representatives and others. The AP further cited Natasha Sarin, the Treasury Department's counselor for tax policy and implementation, explaining that the Inflation Reduct...
Dr, Anthony Fauci tried to crack a joke mocking his critics, as the White House chief medical adviser said he was the one who developed the ancestral strain of the Chinese coronavirus. Fauci made the remarks during an appearance at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle this week to receive the Hutch Award, which is typically reserved for “an active MLB player who ‘best exemplifies the fighting spirit and competitive desire'” of former MLB pitcher Fred Hutchinson, who died of lung cancer, according to MLB. During the discussion, Dr. Larry Corey, former president of Fred Hutch, remarked, “We’re at the epicenter of the initial outbreak, WA1 – Washington 1 is considered the ancestral model strain.” “No, I developed the ...
Israel is worried about possible interference by Russia in the upcoming national elections. According to a report by Ben Caspit in Maariv, Israel has asked Russia to refrain from any form of interference in the election cycle. The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), by order of Prime Minister Yair Lapid, contacted its Russian counterpart with the appeal. Three years ago the former chief of the Shin Bet, Nadav Argaman, warned of potential foreign interference in elections, mainly through cyberspace.
Israeli students have sent a letter to Ben & Jerry’s, accusing the ice cream maker of “illegally” occupying tribal land in Vermont that belonged to an Abenaki Native American tribe. The letter, addressed to Ben & Jerry’s board chair Anuradha Mittal, which was signed by over 1,000 Israeli students and academics associated with Students for Justice in America, slammed Ben & Jerry’s for hypocritically boycotting Judea and Samaria. “We have concluded that your company’s occupation of the Abenaki lands is illegal and we believe it is wholly inconsistent with the stated values that Ben & Jerry’s purports to maintain. Ironically, in July of the last year you announced that you would discontinue the sale of your products in Isr...
Garland blasts 'attacks on the professionalism of the FBI and Justice Department agents and prosecutors' US Attorney General Merrick Garland told reporters on Thursday that he “personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant” on former US president Donald Trump's Florida estate on Monday. According to The Washington Post, the FBI agents who raided the house sought documents on nuclear weapons.  In a public statement, Garland refused to divulge any more information on the investigation or the raid on Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago due to “ethical obligations,” but noted that he submitted a notion to the Justice Department to release the warrant to the public. “The Justice Department will speak through its co...
Johnson & Johnson is pulling baby powder containing talc worldwide next year after it did the same in the U.S. and Canada amid thousands of lawsuits claiming it had caused cancer. Talc will be replaced by cornstarch, the company said. The company has faced thousands of lawsuits alleging its talcum powder caused users to develop ovarian cancer, through use for feminine hygiene, or mesothelioma, a cancer that strikes the lungs and other organs. J&J insists, and the overwhelming majority of medical research on talc indicates, that the talc baby powder is safe and doesn't cause cancer. However, demand for the company's baby powder fell off due to the controversy and it removed talc from the products in most of North America. J&J said the change will s...

DAILY DVAR HALACHA. Aug 12 . Av 15. Final amazing reason for Tu B'Av..mp4 from Yitzchok Dinovitzer on Vimeo.
Moshe Rabbeinu did not have the “fairy-tale” ending that we would have all imagined, of marching into Eretz Yisroel as the sun set. Instead, after Moshe davened 515 unique teffilos begging Hashem for the opportunity to enter Eretz Yisroel (as per the Midrash; hinted by the fact that Va’eschanan’s numerical value is 515), in our Parshah, Hashem declines his request. How could it be that Moshe Rabbeinu, the one who went up for 40 days and 40 nights to shamayim, who personally learnt Torah with Hashem, the greatest Navi in history, the one who Hashem regularly answered even when it came to forgiving the most iniquitous of sins, etc. – did not have his teffilos answered, despite asking for such a virtuous request, and even after davening over 500 times??? There...
“Nachamu Nachamu Ami, be consoled, be consoled my people (Isaiah 40:1).” We read these beautiful words of the prophet Yeshayahu (Isaiah) on the Shabbos immediately following Tisha B’Av. When the fast ends, we feel euphoric, excited, and optimistic. But why? What is different? The Temple has not yet been rebuilt, anti-Semitism still exists, and there is still in-fighting within our people. Why is this Shabbos a Shabbos of Consolation when nothing has seemingly changed? Rav Ephraim Oshry (1914-2003) provides an amazing insight. Rav Oshry was the Rav of the Kovno Ghetto and answered many questions of halacha (Jewish law) throughout the war. He compiled these heartbreaking, yet inspiring responsa in a work titled, Responsa from the Depths. In his introdu...
Baltimore, MD - Aug. 11, 2022 - Over 300 men and women gathered at the Pikesville DoubleTree Hotel for the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Business Halacha Conference in Baltimore. Additionally, there were special sessions for men and for women about gender-related practices in the workplace.   Rabbi Aaron Lopiansky, Rosh Yeshiv...
Mick Mulvaney, the former Trump administration acting chief of staff, said on Thursday that the reported informant who tipped off authorities about where Donald Trump was storing classified documents at Mar-a-Lago would have to be “very close” to the former president. “This would be someone who was handling things on day to day, who knew where documents were, so it would be somebody very close inside the president, my guess is there’s probably six or eight people who had that kind of information,” Mulvaney said on CNN. Newsweek reported earlier this week that the FBI’s search had been aided by details from an informant who told the bureau what documents remained in Trump’s possession and where at Mar-a-Lago they were located. ...
British Foreign Secretary of State and Parliament member Liz Truss promised to consider moving the British embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem if she is elected Tory leader and becomes prime minister in September.  The Conservative Party leadership candidate—one of two; she is vying against fellow Parliament member Rishi Sunak—made the promise in a letter written to members of Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI). She also participated in a CFI event on Monday night in which she addressed voters and answered questions about Israel-U.K. relations. “I understand the importance and sensitivity of the location of the British Embassy in Israel,” Truss wrote in her letter, adding that she has had “many conversations with my good friend,&rdq...
The former prime minister denounced a 'conspiracy plot' hatched against him by the judicial institution Israel’s former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's defense lawyer, Boaz Ben Tzur, told judges on Thursday that his client wanted the charges against him in “Case 4000" to be dropped, "on behalf of protection of justice." Netanyahu is suspected of having granted government favors worth millions of dollars to the boss of the Israeli company Bezeq, Shaul Elovich, in exchange for favorable media coverage from one of the group's media, the Walla website.  The lawyer’s request comes after a similar one filed by Elovich earlier on Wednesday. Judge Michal Agmon then considered that the indictment was not based on any suff...
Moscow also criticized Israeli gov't for 'triggering widespread protests in the West Bank' over Nablus raid Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova on Thursday condemned Israel over the recent Operation “Breaking Dawn,” accusing it of using "disproportionate force" in the Gaza Strip. Moscow also claimed that Israel instignated clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers this week in the West Bank. In her statement, Zakharova criticized the Israeli government for "triggering widespread protests in West Bank towns and clashes between Arabs and Israeli forces" during Israel's military raid in Nablus on Tuesday.  "Moscow is deeply concerned about the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and calls on both ...
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased its Covid-19 guidance on Thursday, saying the virus now poses a much lower risk of severe illness, hospitalization and death compared to earlier in the pandemic. The CDC no longer recommends testing people in schools who don’t have Covid symptoms, its previous strategy to catch possible infections and head off outbreaks. But such screening is still recommended in certain high risk settings such as nursing homes, prisons and homeless shelters. And people who aren’t vaccinated no longer need to quarantine if they have been exposed to Covid, according to the new CDC guidance. Instead, public health officials now recommend that these individuals wear a mask for 10 days and get tested on day five. The CDC, in a report...
