Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's International Spokeswoman, Keren Hajioff, has made the following statement today (Thursday, 12 May 2022) regarding the death of Al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu-Akleh: "Shireen Abu Akleh's death is a tragedy. There's no other word for it. She was an experienced journalist, whom many of my own colleagues used to work with. We have to get to the bottom of what happened — to find the truth and only the truth. Israel asked the Palestinians to conduct a joint investigation to find out what caused Shireen’s tragic death, but the Palestinians refused. Why are they rejecting a joint investigation? What exactly are they trying to hide? Yesterday, the director of the Palestinian Forensic Medicine Institute carried out an initia...

The Baltimore City Board of Ethics on Thursday said City Council President Nick Mosby violated the city’s ethics law when he accepted donations to cover his legal expenses and those of his wife, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. All four members of the board found the donations violated a section of the ethics law prohibiting “a public servant from soliciting—or facilitating the solicitation of—a gift from a controlled donor,” according to a newly published report. The Mosby Trust, a group soliciting legal defense funds for what it calls an “unjust, politically-motivated federal criminal tax investigation,” is made up people known to the council president, though he declined to provide their names. Jerusalem, Israel - May 12, 2022 - A rare handwritten, signed letter by Albert Einstein, one of the most influential physicists of all time, is up for auction at the Kedem Auction House in Jerusalem.  Letter addressed to the Danish journalist Karen Stampe Bendix in 1936 written against the backdrop of the threat posed by Nazi Germany's rapid mobilization in conjunction with its escalating political extremism, and the increasing likelihood of another war. Einstein's call resonates with recent events in Europe, in which Western countries, having failed in trying to stop Russian aggression through diplomacy, are forced to send military assistance to Ukraine to contain the advance of the Russian army, while voices are heard in Moscow calling to invade other European countries su...
We are the height of parent-teacher school conferences. These days are consequential for teachers, parents, and students. Here is a pertinent point from this week's Torah portion, parashat Behar. The Parasha describes someone whose financial condition has begun to deteriorate, when we are commanded: "And you shall support him." In other words, we must pay attention and help him from the start so that he does  not reach financial ruin. Rashi writes that this is like a donkey carrying a heavy load. If the load begins to sway a little while on the donkey's back, one person can stabilize it. But once it falls to the ground, not even five people will be able to put it back in place. Our commentators explain that this principle is also relevant to education. We need to identify prob...
Deaths from COVID-19 are on the rise again after several weeks of upward ticking case rates sparked by Omicron variants. Driving the news: The U.S. averaged roughly 365 daily deaths, up 7% from about 342 two weeks ago. That's still a fraction of where things stood several months ago when the daily average was in the thousands. Yes, but: The increase in deaths comes after several weeks of declines. While increasingly transmissible Omicron variants have generally not appeared to cause more serious illness, some people are still dying. Waning immunity and low booster uptake has also meant a growing share of the deaths are among the vaccinated, officials warn. By the numbers: There were roughly 77,000 new daily cases over the last week, up 44% fr...

Ambassador Danny Danon, Chairman, World Likud and Israel's former UN Ambassador to the United Nations, has slammed the Palestinian Authority (PA) for refusing to cooperate with Israel on the investigation of an Al Jazeera journalist's death. "It is astounding that instead of calling for a joint and transparent investigation between Israel and the Palestinian Authority to uncover the truth of the recent incident, there is an immediate and collective rush to denounce Israel without any supporting evidence," Danon said. "The fact that the PA refuses to cooperate in an investigation seems to be of no consequence, nor cause any outcry. This is sad and shocking but not surprising." He added, "The 'blame Israel for everything game' serves the biased narrative of these elect...
