The Al Jazeera reporter killed during a gun battle in Jenin early Wednesday morning was an American citizen, US Ambassador to Israel Thomas Nides said Wednesday. In a tweet released hours after her death Wednesday morning, Nides wrote that Shireen Abu Aqleh held American citizenship, and called for a “thorough investigation” into her death. “Very sad to learn of the death of American and Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh of AJArabic/AJEnglish. I encourage a thorough investigation into the circumstances of her death and the injury of at least one other journalist today in Jenin.” Abu Aqleh, a correspondent for the Qatar-based Al Jazeera network, died after suffering a gunshot wound to the head Wednesday morning, after Arab terrorists in ...
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett pushed back Wednesday on accusations by the Palestinian Authority that Israeli forces were responsible for the death of American-Arab journalist in Jenin. In a statement issued following the death of Shireen Abu Aqleh, a correspondent for the Qatar-based Al Jazeera network, during a firefight in Jenin between Arab terrorists and Israeli soldiers, Bennett lamented Abu Aqleh’s death, and suggested that it may have been caused by terrorist gunfire. "Last night, IDF forces conducted an extensive operation in northern Samaria, as part of the efforts of the State of Israel to stop the deadly wave of terrorism. During the engagement, armed Palestinians shot in an inaccurate, indiscriminate and uncontrolled manner. Our forces from the I...
Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh was killed Wednesday morning and another journalist was wounded during clashes between armed Palestinians and IDF troops in Jenin. On Sunday, after several days of interviews with passengers on Lufthansa flight 401, I wrote about the shocking story of Lufthansa collectively punishing over 130 Jews by barring them from catching their connecting flight on Lufthansa flight 1334, and barring them from flying on any Lufthansa flight for 24 hours. I’m not an investigative journalist, but I heard rumors of what happened and couldn’t find any actual journalists pursuing and writing about the story. Since I cover travel deals and news and was shocked by the story, I decided to take it on. Eventually that led me to uncovering the chilling video of a Lufthansa supervisor blaming problems on the Jews and explaining why collective punishment, or Sippenhaft against the Jews was justified. I was hor...
Baltimore City Commissioner of Health Dr. Letitia Dzirasa is asking everyone to wear a mask in public indoor spaces regardless of COVID vaccination status. She says she's basing her recommendation on increases in COVID transmission in the city. According to the health commissioner, Baltimore City has seen a 243% rise in cases and a 28% increase in hospitalizations over the past 28 days. Statewide, the COVID-testing positivity rate lept to 6.22%. 36 people were hospitalized with COVID during the past 24 hours and 10 people died fro...

A congressional report published Tuesday shows that a biotech company hid the real number of COVID-19 vaccine doses that were contaminated. Emergent BioSolutions was hired to produce hundreds of millions of vaccine doses. The new report gathered by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform shows that, between March 2020 and February 2022, the company discarded up to 400 million vaccine doses due to ingredients becoming contaminated. Previous estimates of discarded doses were lower. According to the report, executives at the company had privately raised concerns about quality control before ingredients were contaminated. The report goes on to show that lab workers misled government inspectors about issues at the plant in Bayview, Maryland. They reportedly told the FDA that they were...

The NYS Education Department recently released new, proposed Substantial Equivalency Regulations for nonpublic schools. These draft regulations can give unprecedented authority over yeshivos to the local public-school districts, and the curricular requirements can present a serious challenge to the ability of our yeshivos to be mechanech our children according to their mesorah.  The release of these regulations triggers a 60-day public comment period which ends May 31. The last draft of the regulations received an unprecedented 140,000 comments, with the overwhelming majority in opposition. This resulted in an over two year deferral of the regulations, forced NYSED and the Board of Regents to seriously engage with the community in a variety of public and private meetings, and resulte...

“Hi Sivan, I know you don’t usually publish stories like this, but I feel the need to share. My name is Avraham Maimon, I’m the brother of Yair Maimon, the hero from Tekoa who killed the terrorist who tried to break into his house yesterday. Here is another side to the story: Yesterday evening, my mother was sitting in her home in Kiryat Arba, when she began to feel an overwhelming distress in her heart. Although she was tired and exhausted from  Shabbat where she hosted all her children, she felt that something big was about to happen. In a spontaneous decision, she walked down to the Cave of the Patriarchs, the tombs of our fathers and mothers, and began to weep and pray; although she did not know for what.In those very moments, Yair and his wife decided to go out for...
Seven hospitals in Maryland received top marks, but others didn't quite measure up in the Spring 2022 Hospital Safety Grades report released Tuesday by The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit health care watchdog group. The 2022 ratings reflect care during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Leapfrog Group said its and other groups' research showed the pandemic reversed years of progress in patient safety. The pandemic has had a negative effect on "health care delivery at every level and setting, from staffing shortages to increased infections to the very care patients receive," according to the Adult Patient Experience at Acute Care Hospitals survey, also released Tuesday by The Leapfrog Group. "The health care workforce has faced unprecedented levels of press...
Gas prices may impact where you go and what you do, especially with Memorial Day, and then summer approach. Prices at the gas pump continue to soar, which hit another record high in Maryland Monday. Many drivers were shocked to see gas prices rise 15 cents higher. We had the price increase already, then a little tax break from the legislature and that went away, now it jumped back up. “At the end of the day, the price that motorist see at the pump is driven by the price of crude oil which makes up more than 50% of the gasoline," said Regina Ali, from AAA Mid-Atlantic. Crude oil was just under $110 a barrel Friday. Gas is averaging $4.40 a gallon, 14 cents more than this time last week. “My fuel prices rise from 1,000 a week to about 2,000 a week,” said Billy Snyder...
