A United Airlines flight from New Jersey to Israel was forced to turn around back to the US Friday morning after two Israeli passengers began disrupting the flight, causing a commotion after they were asked for proof that they were sitting in their assigned seats, Hebrew media reported. According to passenger witness Roi Lotan, an hour-and-a-half after departure, flight attendants approached two Israeli passengers who were seated in business class, Channel 12 reported. The attendants asked for their tickets to see if they were indeed supposed to be sitting there. However, the two passengers did not present tickets. Instead, according to Lotan, “A riot started.” Ultimately, the plane was forced to turn around and the passengers were removed from the plane.
The Jan. 6 select panel has obtained the draft order and a document titled "Remarks on National Healing." Both are reported here in detail for the first time. Among the records that Donald Trump’s lawyers tried to shield from Jan. 6 investigators are a draft executive order that would have directed the defense secretary to seize voting machines and a document titled “Remarks on National Healing.” POLITICO has reviewed both documents. The text of the draft executive order is published here for the first time. The executive order — which also would have appointed a special counsel to probe the 2020 election — was never issued. The remarks are a draft of a speech Trump gave the next day. Together, the two documents point to the wildly divergent per...
Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked intends to bring the amendment to the Citizenship Law for approval by the Knesset this week, two weeks after it was approved by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation, the Israel Hayom newspaper reported. The purpose of the Family Reunification Law is to prevent the flow of Arab families from the Palestinian Authority into Israel proper. In order to end the situation under which tens of thousands of Arabs from Judea and Samaria will become citizens of the State of Israel each year, Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked has advanced a new law. However, the Meretz faction filed an appeal on the issue to postpone the discussion in the government on the matter that is expected to take place today and to prevent the vote on it in the plenum later this we...

The National Library has announced a new and exciting discovery that sheds light on hitherto unknown details of the life of the Ari Hakadosh, also known as the Arizal, Rabbi Yitzhak Luria zy”a, and his life in Egypt and the Land of Israel. The Ari Hakadosh did not leave behind any books or letters in his own hand; what we know today of his teachings was transmitted primarily by his foremost disciple, Rabbi Chaim Vital zy”a. The new details now revealed about his life have been preserved in a torn fragment of a letter that was sent to the Ari Hakadosh by a Jew named David who wrote to him in the sixteenth century, while he was still living in Egypt. The letter deals with issues of regular daily life; the letter-writer had written to the Ari Hakadosh, asking him to vo...
“Letting parents test their children is one big lie.” The new government outline that was authorized last week aims to bring an end to the plague of never-ending quarantines in the education system. The new policies come into effect on Thursday and will permit parents to use antigen tests to test their children at home. The tests are supposed to be conducted twice a week, on Sundays and Wednesdays, before children go to school. But not all parents intend to comply. Some plan to skip the testing stage and simply send their children to school without a negative test result. Interviews conducted by Mako revealed the frustration and sharp criticism of the policies developed by the Prime Minister, the Education Minister Yifat Shasha-Biton, and the Heal...
A downtick in COVID-19 cases is raising hopes that the omicron wave has peaked in the United States.  To be sure, new case numbers remain high and hospitals are still overwhelmed in many areas. But, especially in the earliest hard-hit states like New York and Massachusetts, cases are clearly declining, and experts say cases appear to have peaked on a national basis as well.   The U.S. seven-day average of new cases fell from about 798,000 on Jan. 15 to about 744,000 on Jan. 19, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, the first downturn since mid-December, when the highly transmissible omicron variant took hold and cases began a rapid spike. “I think we’ve turned the corner,” said Monica Gandhi, an infectious disease expert at ...
Baltimore, MD - Jan. 22, 2022 - The import of freedom is showcased through Yetzias Mitzrayim-- the formative event in Klal Yisroel’s development. Freedom is precious but also precarious; it is so easy to abdicate one’s dignity as a Jew and ח''ו assume a demeaned position. This tragedy is brought to life in the narrative of Eved Ivri (The Hebrew Slave). Woven together as a cohesive tapestry, the story of Eved Ivri can be seen as a multi-faceted regression in which the slave allows himself to be pulled back to the lowly pit of Golus Mitzrayim. @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-536869121 1107305...

A new program in New Mexico is streamlining the process to allow state workers and National Guard members to work as substitute teachers and aides as staffing shortages caused by the Omicron variant continue — and that includes Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. The governor said that the state has been "woefully short" on educators, so she and others are stepping in. "States and governments have had to turn on a dime during the pandemic to stand up systems, to provide support to any of our critical, crucial, basic services. There aren't any other options," she said in a CNN interview. She thinks she'll be placed in an elementary school next week. The governor said that those participating in the program must go through a...
Right-wing activists plan to create a human chain stretching from the Knesset to the Western Wall, demonstrating in support of the demolished town of Homesh in northern Samaria. The event will take place on Thursday, January 27, at 4:00p.m. "Just like the Arabs know why they want to chase us out of there, we also know very well why we will not compromise in any way. "Members of Yamina and New Hope have no choice other than to choose if they are going to take the path of Yair Golan (Meretz) and [former Prime Minister] Ariel Sharon. If they decide to do so - they will come face-to-face with an enormous and determined public." MK Orit Strock, chair of the Religious Zionism faction in the Knesset, wrote, "There is no doubt: Loyalty to Homesh, the determination to fight for it, is the ...
Light snowfall was hit or miss this week, but another chance of snow is in the weekend forecast for part of Maryland, followed by more Arctic air next week. A string of cold weather may extend into next week, and bring another chance for a snowstorm to Maryland next weekend, according to the National Weather Service. AccuWeather forecasters said an Alberta clipper storm will send an Arctic blast into Maryland by Sunday. Snow or some flurries may reach part of the mid-Atlantic coast later Sunday with spotty accumulations in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, the network said. The National Weather Service said there is a 20 percent chance of isolated snow showers after 1 p.m. Sunday, with scattered snow showers possible, mainly before 10 p.m. Another...
Friday saw 54,135 new coronavirus cases diagnosed, Israel's Health Ministry said Saturday night, adding that the total number of active cases had reached 442,229. Meanwhile, nearly 2,000 (1,967) coronavirus patients are hospitalized throughout the country, with 732 of them in serious condition or worse. That number includes 208 whose condition is critical. A total of 146 COVID-19 patients are intubated. Of the coronavirus test results received Friday, 20.61% were positive, the Ministry added. That is the highest percentage Israel has seen since the start of the pandemic - and it does not include unreported home antigen tests. In the past seven days, 68 people have died of coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths to 8,393. There are also 9,867 healthcare workers in quaranti...

In a move his former mentor has called “gutless,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis again refused to say Friday whether he received his COVID-19 booster shot. “That’s something that I think people should just make their own decisions on,” DeSantis said at a news conference. “I’m not gonna let that be a weapon for people to be able to use. I think it’s a private matter.” The 43-year-old also cast doubt on whether people in his age group need a booster shot, despite scientists and public health officials affirming boosters as the best protection against the Omicron variant. It came a day after he implied vaccinations could affect fertility, a claim scientists say is not backed up by evidence. DeSantis received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine ...

'We are looking to see if we can create a vaccine that covers Omicron and doesn't forget the other variants' In an interview with Israel's Channel 12 News, aired on Saturday, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla predicted the world will largely put the pandemic behind in a few months and said the US pharmaceutical giant intends to produce a vaccine covering all strands of the virus that will be administered once a year. Bourla said that “the virus will not be eradicated. The virus will be with us for years to come,” yet “we should be able to come to normal lives… in a few months.”   In the interview Bourla was asked whether he sees booster shots being administered every four to five months on a regular basis. Official Israeli report points to a link between rising anti-Semitism and the coronavirus pandemic The coronavirus pandemic led to a rise in anti-Semitism around the world in 2021, according to a report by Israel's Diaspora Ministry that will be presented to the government on Sunday, ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27. This report points to a link between rising anti-Semitism and the coronavirus pandemic, seeing a rise in conspiratorial rhetoric painting Jews as profiting from vaccines and exploiting the crisis to strengthen their grip on governments and the world economy. The report further shows that the pandemic brought about a trend of trivialization of the Holocaust, both by public figures and social media users, with repeated compa...
