A United Airlines flight from New Jersey to Israel was forced to turn around back to the US Friday morning after two Israeli passengers began disrupting the flight, causing a commotion after they were asked for proof that they were sitting in their assigned seats, Hebrew media reported.
According to passenger witness Roi Lotan, an hour-and-a-half after departure, flight attendants approached two Israeli passengers who were seated in business class, Channel 12 reported. The attendants asked for their tickets to see if they were indeed supposed to be sitting there.
However, the two passengers did not present tickets. Instead, according to Lotan, “A riot started.”
Ultimately, the plane was forced to turn around and the passengers were removed from the plane.

Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked intends to bring the amendment to the Citizenship Law for approval by the Knesset this week, two weeks after it was approved by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation, the Israel Hayom newspaper reported.

For the second time in recent hours, another earthquake was felt in the north of the country.
The additional earthquake, which took place Sunday afternoon, was of 3.5 magnitude on the Richter scale. The focus of the noise was 16 km southeast of Tiberias.
Following the quake, Beit She'an municipality workers were evacuated from offices as part of earthquake procedures. After about ten minutes they returned to offices.
The quake came after residents of northern Israel on Saturday night reported feeling an earthquake.
According to reports, the earthquake was felt in Tiberias, Tzfat, Yavne'el, Haifa, and the Krayot.
The quake, which measured at 4.1 magnitude, was felt in Jordan as well as in Israel. Its epicenter was reported to be south of the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee).

A downtick in COVID-19 cases is raising hopes that the omicron wave has peaked in the United States.
To be sure, new case numbers remain high and hospitals are still overwhelmed in many areas. But, especially in the earliest hard-hit states like New York and Massachusetts, cases are clearly declining, and experts say cases appear to have peaked on a national basis as well.
The U.S. seven-day average of new cases fell from about 798,000 on Jan. 15 to about 744,000 on Jan. 19, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, the first downturn since mid-December, when the highly transmissible omicron variant took hold and cases began a rapid spike.

A new program in New Mexico is streamlining the process to allow state workers and National Guard members to work as substitute teachers and aides as staffing shortages caused by the Omicron variant continue — and that includes Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
The governor said that the state has been "woefully short" on educators, so she and others are stepping in.

Light snowfall was hit or miss this week, but another chance of snow is in the weekend forecast for part of Maryland, followed by more Arctic air next week.
A string of cold weather may extend into next week, and bring another chance for a snowstorm to Maryland next weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
AccuWeather forecasters said an Alberta clipper storm will send an Arctic blast into Maryland by Sunday. Snow or some flurries may reach part of the mid-Atlantic coast later Sunday with spotty accumulations in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, the network said.

Friday saw 54,135 new coronavirus cases diagnosed, Israel's Health Ministry said Saturday night, adding that the total number of active cases had reached 442,229.
Meanwhile, nearly 2,000 (1,967) coronavirus patients are hospitalized throughout the country, with 732 of them in serious condition or worse. That number includes 208 whose condition is critical. A total of 146 COVID-19 patients are intubated.
Of the coronavirus test results received Friday, 20.61% were positive, the Ministry added. That is the highest percentage Israel has seen since the start of the pandemic - and it does not include unreported home antigen tests.
In the past seven days, 68 people have died of coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths to 8,393.

According to reports, the earthquake was felt in Tiberias, Tzfat, Yavne'el, Haifa, and the Krayot.

In a move his former mentor has called “gutless,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis again refused to say Friday whether he received his COVID-19 booster shot.
