Bais Yaakov of Baltimore’s rich and illustrious history dates back to our founding in 1942. With the passage of time, we can appreciate how the achievements of later generations are in so many ways built upon the wisdom and accomplishments of those who came before us and the foundation they laid.
Our Chazal teach us, “Ben Shmonim L’Gevura”, that 80 is the age of strength. With this in mind, today at Bais Yaakov we celebrated the completion of 80 school days in our 80th year.
Baruch Hashem, we have so much to be thankful for. Today, we reflect on our past as Bais Yaakov stands proudly and firmly on the shoulders of the giants who have preceded us over the last 80 years.&...

The potential for snow prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for central and northern Maryland, including Baltimore County.
Forecasters say the precipitation will begin as rain then transition to snow during the Thursday morning commute.
Up to 2 inches of snow could fall, according to the advisory. Locally, some areas may see totals around 3 inches.
The winter weather advisory is in effect from 4 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, for these jurisdictions: Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties.
Drivers should anticipate slippery roads and drive more slowly and cautiously than usual.

Marylanders now have until July 15, 2022, to file and pay 2021 state individual income taxes, Comptroller Peter Franchot announced Wednesday.
Franchot said the extended deadline is meant to assist taxpayers facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The extension waives penalties and interest on outstanding liabilities.
"Many people are still struggling to stay above water, so giving taxpayers more time to file and pay will hopefully ease their financial pressure," Franchot said in a statement. "As we approach the two-year mark of the onset of COVID-19, my agency remains as committed as ever to helping Marylanders who still are feeling the pandemic's impact."

We were all shocked by the terrible news that greeted us after havdala this past week.
Another brazen antisemitic threat to Jewish lives, this time at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, TX! And so soon after the murders in Pittsburgh, Poway, Monsey and Jersey City. Boruch Hashem, no one was killed or injured, but no doubt the community there was left with deep emotional scars.

Muttaqi says 'Humanitarian aid is the short-term solution to economic problems'
The Taliban’s acting premier, Mullah Hasan Akhund, urged the world on Tuesday to grant official recognition to the militant group’s government in Afghanistan and ease funding to the state.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday said most restrictions deployed to fight the latest wave of the Covid pandemic in England would be lifted from next week.
The announcement comes as Johnson is on the political hot seat, facing a potential revolt from within the ranks of his Conservative party over revelations of lockdown-breaching parties, dubbed "partygate."

Dubai's Emirates airline announced on Tuesday that it will suspend several flights to the United States as of January 19 until further notice, due to 5G mobile deployment.

The Biden administration will begin making 400 million N95 masks available for free to U.S. residents starting next week, now that federal officials are emphasizing their better protection against the omicron variant of COVID-19 over cloth face coverings.
The White House announced Wednesday that the masks will come from the government’s Strategic National Stockpile, which has more than 750 million of the highly protective masks on hand. The masks will be available for pickup at pharmacies and community health centers across the country. They will begin shipping this week for distribution starting late next week, the White House said.

From the ancient Laws of Hammurabi to English Common Law which, though not codified, has governed Britain since the twelfth century, laws have defined each society and culture on earth.
