Pope Francis cautioned nations against returning refugees to dangerous countries like Libya on Sunday, citing the hazards and risks returnees often face upon reentering insecure states.
“We have to put an end to the return of migrants to countries that are not secure,” the religious leader proclaimed, referring to the “thousands of migrants, refugees and others who need protection in Libya” during his blessing on Sunday.
The pope detailed the abuse suffered by migrants in Libya, and compared it to conditions at concentration camps.
“How much those who are sent back suffer! There are real lagers there,” he said, using a German word people in Italy often employ when talking about the camps.
“I never forget you. I hear your cries.”
The fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wind down: The Ministry of Health announced on Sunday night that 284 COVID-19 carriers are hospitalized in serious condition, the lowest number since August 6.
According to the data about 78.2% of those hospitalized in serious condition are not vaccinated. Among the seriously ill patients under the age of 60, 88% were not vaccinated at all.
The number of patients on ventilators also decreased slightly and stands at 148.
One patient died of COVID-19 on Sunday. This person was vaccinated with two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, but did not receive the third dose (the booster shot). This brings the number of deaths in Israel since the start of the pandemic to 8,049.
At the same time, Israel is preparing for a decision by the US Food and D...
A senior Shabak agent has been dispatched to Washington D.C. in order to present the U.S. administration with what is being called irrefutable proof that the six organizations recently linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) are indeed terrorist organizations, Walla reports.
The agent will be giving a number of briefings to senior administration officials and will provide them with intelligence information that demonstrates the links between the six organizations and the PFLP. The organizations operate under cover of being civil or humanitarian organizations but are in fact controlled by senior PFLP leaders and employ their activists in various positions, including many who have been involved in terrorism, Israel alleges.

Arizona’s attorney general on Friday filed a request for a temporary restraining order to stop the Biden administration implementing a controversial vaccine requirement as a lawsuit filed last month moves forward.
“Once a vaccine has been administered, it can never be undone,” Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in a statement announcing the move. “The COVID-19 vaccine mandate is one of the greatest infringements upon individual liberty, federalism, and the separation of powers by any administration in our country’s history.”
Arizona first sued in September after President Biden announced measures that will require federal workers and private sector workers in businesses with more than 100 employees be vaccinated or take a COVID test weekly. It is...
President Joe Biden’s plummet in the polls is the worst of any president since World War II, according to the Gallup polling organization.
Biden dropped from a 56% approval rating at the beginning of the year to 44.7% in the third quarter of 2021, the organization said.
The drop was in line with those of his Democratic predecessors Barack Obama, who dropped 10 points, Bill Clinton, who dropped almost 7 points, and Jimmy Carter, who dropped almost 9 points during similar periods in their respective administrations.
Only Democratic President John F. Kennedy had a higher rating in his third quarter, rising from 74.3% to 76.8%, according to Gallup.
Republicans Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan saw drops of 2.2 points, 1.9 points, and 3.2 poin...

Ramat Gan - At 11:00 p.m. on Saturday night, a man in his 40s was sitting in a chair at home on Hasneh Street in Ramat Gan when he lost his balance and fell backward striking his head on the floor. The man was bleeding from his head and lost consciousness. His frightened partner immediately called emergency services for help.
EMT Mordechai Ben Ami, together with EMTs in training Ori Nissim and Yisrael Jibli, were on shift together and had just finished with another emergency when they received the alert from United Hatzalah’s Dispatch and Command Center regarding the unconscious man. Biden administration has expressed interest in reopening consulate closed by Trump in 2019
Israel’s deputy foreign minister said on Sunday that the Biden administration may shelve its plan to reopen a US diplomatic mission for Palestinians in Jerusalem after Israel voiced opposition to such a move.
The Jerusalem consulate was subsumed into the US Embassy that was moved to the contested city from Tel Aviv in 2018 by the administration of former President Donald Trump — a reversal of US policy hailed by Israel and condemned by Palestinians.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken this month reiterated Washington’s plan to reopen the consulate as part of efforts to repair Palestinian ties. He did not give timelines.
“I believe that I have good reason to think this w...

Rafael Grossi concerned about lack of access to key nuclear site, denial of communication by new government
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Mariano Grossi said in an interview with NBC News that monitoring of Iran's nuclear program by the UN watchdog is no longer "intact."
Grossi told the US news network that the world may never be "able to reconstruct the picture" of the regime's nuclear activity after Tehran refused to replace cameras at the TESA Karaj complex hit by apparent sabotage in June that Iran has blamed on Israel.
The head of the UN nuclear watchdog also said that he hasn't spoken to Iran's new foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who assumed the post in August under Iran's newly el...
Program to address global warming would involve 14 different government ministries
A massive climate action plan was to be submitted for Israeli government approval on Sunday morning that would involve 14 different ministries taking 100 steps to address environmental pollution caused by global warming, Ynet reports.
The program amounts to $4.8 billion (NIS 15.5 billion), connecting plans provided by various ministries included in the state budget.
The plan implements the strategy of the Environmental Protection Ministry to move to a low-carbon economy.
Environment Minister Tamar Zandberg told Ynet that the upcoming UN climate conference in Glasgow, in the UK, (COP26) that will be attended by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett "was a catalyst" for the climate prop...

The chairman of United Torah Judaism, MK Moshe Gafni, made it clear this morning (Sunday) that on Rosh Chodesh he will arrive at the Western Wall to physically block the expected entry of MK Gilad Kariv carrying a Torah scroll into the women's section.
"I will block Gilad Kariv on Rosh Chodesh at the Western Wall, and I will use my immunity as a Knesset member," he said in an interview with Kol Barama radio.
In his remarks he referred to the circumstances of the formation of the present government. "It was a mistake by Netanyahu not to transfer a budget. I was with him, I talked to him that a budget should be transferred but they did not transfer for various reasons. Maybe it was in consideration of the rotation."
Gafni refused to deal with the pending indictments against...
During Sunday morning’s government discussions regarding the state budget — which must pass within the next few weeks, if the government is to survive — the question of funding for Reform and Conservative groups was raised and apparently settled, Behadrey Haredim reports.
When the current government was formed this past summer, among the new ministerial departments created was one named “Hayahadut Hamit-hadeshet” (which loosely translates as “up-to-date Judaism), within the framework of the Diaspora Affairs Ministry, and this new department is now being used to funnel a massive budget of no less than NIS 40 million to Reform and Conservative groups, to fund their various projects.
The exact purpose of this funding was not made clear, although...
Stop. The Torah interrupts the narration of dramatic events that start with the creation of the universe and continue with the flood, only in order to describe in detail a seemingly insignificant act: how someone invites guests into his tent and shows them hospitality. How Avraham Avinu runs after three strangers in the desert in order to ask how they are and to give them food and drink. Many commentators write that there is a lesson here, that the purpose of this description of welcoming guests is to teach us that this is actually the main event. The Torah is not a scientific or historical book. The word "Torah" is derived from the word for instruction. Its purpose is to instruct, to guide, to educate. Therefore it tells us almost nothing about all the nations and kings that rose and fell ...
