Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has doubled down on the Biden administration’s use of Title 42, dismissing recent criticism from a former senior State Department official who called it “illegal” and “inhumane,” instead insisting to Yahoo News on Tuesday that while it “is not an immigration policy that we in this administration would embrace,” the policy is a “public health imperative.” Title 42, which was first used by former President Donald Trump and then continued by the Biden administration to expel hundreds of thousands of migrants who have crossed into the United States from Mexico, is an obscure public health authority that permits the government to prevent noncitizens from entering the U.S. du...
A federal judge in Utica sided Tuesday with 17 health care workers who object to New York State's vaccine mandate for health workers on religious grounds, granting their request for an injunction that stops the state from enforcing the policy for those who claim a religion-based objection."There is no adequate explanation from defendants about why the 'reasonable accommodation' that must be extended to a medically exempt health care worker under 2.61 could not similarly be extended to a healthcare worker with a sincere religious objection," Judge David Hurd wrote. Hurd's preliminary injunction means New York will continue to be barred from enforcing any requirement that employers deny religious exemptions. Unlike other judges who have heard similar cases about vaccine...
Just hours before Shabbos, scores of yeshivas and other nonprofit organizations received confirmatory emails from the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) announcing $50,000 grants for security and target hardening for their facilities. And - for the first time in New York state history - as advocated for by Agudath Israel of America and others, among those awardees were many Orthodox Jewish summer camps. Summer camps and yeshivas alike need to protect their children and faculty from hate, and ought to be given the wherewithal to do so.   Agudath Israel of America would like to thank Governor Kathy Hochul for prioritizing and expediently delivering these much needed funds, which will help secure 362 at-risk nonprofits in NY. Many enjoy bask...

Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah, decried the Biden administration on Newsmax, saying the White House is headed toward a “critical mass of failure.” “I think this presidency is looking at a critical mass of failure,” Stewart said Monday on “Spicer & Co.” while mentioning that previous “failures” tend to build on themselves. “I mean, look, when [President Joe Biden] came to office, I was worried this might happen, but I never dreamed that he would achieve this in eight months.” “It’s remarkable,” Stewart said. “I mean, start with Afghanistan, then talk about inflation and stagnation and the job numbers — and still languishing with [COVID-19] — and terrifying debt, and the list...
Jamie Dimon, JPMorgan Chase & Co chief executive, is predicting that cryptocurrencies will be regulated by governments and that he thinks bitcoin is “worthless.” “No matter what anyone thinks about it, government is going to regulate it. They are going to regulate it for (anti-money laundering) purposes, for (Bank Secrecy Act) purposes, for tax,” Dimon said Monday, referring to banking regulations, in a conference held virtually by the Institute of International Finance. Dimon, head of the largest U.S. bank, has been a vocal critic of the digital currency, once calling it a fraud and then later saying he regretted the statement. This summer, JPMorgan gave wealth management clients access to cryptocurrency funds, meaning the bank’s fi...
Former President Donald Trump may not be the person who was “pulling the strings” behind a plan hinged on replacing the top Justice Department official with a loyalist willing to carry out a more aggressive strategy to challenge the results of the 2020 election, a Democratic Senate investigator admitted on Sunday. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, appeared on NBC News’s Meet the Press to discuss the interim report released last week by his panel on the DOJ pressure campaign. Trump is said to have favored replacing Jeffrey Rosen, his acting attorney general, with Jeffrey Clark, another DOJ official who drew up a proposal to intervene in the Georgia certification process and raised doubts about the elec...
Americans’ trust in President Joe Biden continues to slide as people see more time needed to return to pre-pandemic life, according to a new Axios-Ipsos poll. Just 13% of responding U.S. adults said they expected to be able to get back to their pre-COVID lives within six months, Axios reported Tuesday. That was down from 36% in June. People expecting a return to normal life to take more than a year has tripled from 9% to 30% since June. That’s not good news for Biden. “He’s basically losing the expectations game,” Cliff Young, president of Ipsos U.S. public affairs, told Axios. “Once the delta variant raised its ugly head, it affected people’s lives, and now they’re adjusting their expectations, which is not good ...
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett tussled with opposition members and defended his government’s state budget on Monday during a stormy Knesset plenum session called by 40 opposition members. Several opposition lawmakers were removed from the chamber during the session for heckling and angry outbursts, and Opposition Leader Benjamin Netanyahu alleged that Bennett was “not a real prime minister.” A state budget hasn’t been approved since 2018 amid a protracted political crisis that resulted in four consecutive election cycles. Netanyahu is widely believed to have intentionally prevented it from passing during the previous, short-lived government, utilizing a loophole in a power-sharing deal with Benny Gantz that otherwise would have resulted in the latter becoming pri...

Israel's ambassador to the United States and the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, responded on Monday to the interview given by the founders of Ben & Jerry’s to the Axios website, in which they insisted that the decision to stop selling Ben & Jerry’s ice cream in Judea and Samaria does not constitute a boycott of Israel. "The ignorance and hypocrisy of Ben and his partner Jerry are outrageous. Part of the definition of anti-Semitism is precisely to demand from Israel what is not demanded of any other entity in the world, and Misters Ben and Jerry have no problem with their ice cream being sold to supporters of terrorism, and yet they are boycotting Israel," he said. Ambassador Erdan vowed, "So I will continue to work so that as many states as poss...
A group of specialists in Israel will explore solutions to limit the negative impact of social media platforms, according to Channel 12. The experts will be selected by Communications Minister Yoaz Hendel, and will look at potential options to stem the influence of social networks. Members of the team could attempt to prompt Facebook for details on the company’s post algorithm, and ask for a reveal of the site’s censorship policies, Channel 12 explained. Some potential regulations detailed in the news broadcast include holding platforms legally accountable for damaging content on their sites. The possible restrictions could mark a first for the largely unregulated industry if imposed.
Governor Greg Abbott today issued an executive order stating that no entity in Texas can compel receipt of a COVID-19 vaccination by any individual, including an employee or consumer, who objects to such vaccination for any reason of personal conscience, based on a religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID-19. Governor Abbott also sent a message to the the Chief Clerk of the House and Secretary of the Senate adding this issue as an item to the Third Special Session agenda. The executive order will be rescinded upon the passage of such legislation.  "The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and our best defense against the virus, but should remain voluntary and never forced," said Governor Abbott.  Read the Governor's ...
You could not have scripted a better scenario. Avraham was missioned to preach a new religion to a confused world. He spoke of a "one G-d" who alone, created diversity and dichotomy. He also spoke of a G-d who was moral and compassionate rather than angry and hostile. Reversing two-thousand years of errant religious thought was demanding, and progress was gradual. Having vanquished four powerful chieftains, Avraham hits the "jackpot". For over a decade the world had been immersed in a bloody political struggle which finally erupted into a worldwide war. Chances for peace seemed remote, as an alliance of four ferocious warlords terrorized the region. Courageously, Avraham intercedes, rescuing his nephew from captivity and ending the violence. As was prophesized, Avraham has now become an i...

In Bereishis 12:1 the posuk tells us that Hashem commanded Avraham to leave his land,  his birthplace, and the house of his father and go to a land that will be shown to him by Hashem. The Panim Yafos in the end of Parshas Noach asks; why did Hashem tell him go to the land I will show you, and did not tell him to go to Eretz Canaan? The Panim Yafos answers that if we analyze it, Avraham should have stayed home to do kibbud av; nevertheless, he left his father Terach for two reasons. The first reason was because Avraham had made a neder to go to Eretz Canaan. A neder is mevatel a mitzvah. The second reason is that even tho...
In a focus group last week, Pennsylvania Democrats one after another articulated the issue vexing top White House aides, party operatives in Virginia and voters in Georgia: Why isn’t President Joe Biden’s diminished job rating rebounding? All nine participants from Tuesday’s session gave Biden C- grades or lower. And their answers circled back to a similar point: The pandemic and the many ways it continues to hinder normal life is souring their views of Biden. One woman said she wanted to buy a car but supply chain issues were delaying new shipments to the dealership. A man complained about understaffed restaurants. “There is a malaise,” said Sarah Longwell, a moderate Republican strategist who became a vocal supporter of Biden...
