In a candid conversation with Charedi news outlets, Defense Minister Benny Gantz doubled down on previous assurances he has given that he will not partner with Netanyahu in government again – and suggested an alternative candidate for premier.
“I have no problem with a Charedi prime minister,” Gantz said. “But I have no more faith in Netanyahu, after he twice broke his promises to me. The current government is a complex one, but it is still functioning well.”
And Gantz added, “I hope that the Charedim will join the government this year. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t be part of it. We have even set aside ministries for them, mostly ones currently held by right-wing parties. I hope that they find the courage to make the move.”Gan...

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) is ordering 191 inmates from Rikers Island to be released on Friday amid a severe staffing shortage, high coronavirus rates and overcrowding.
Hochul ordered that the inmates be released even though legislation she signed on Friday, called the Less is More Act and targeted at technical parole violations, isn't effective until next spring, The New York Times reported. A number of inmates who will be released have parole violations on their record.
“They have served their sentences under the dictates of the new Less is More, but they shouldn’t have to wait until the enactment date,” Hochul said on Friday, according to The Associated Press.

Sudan, Morocco joined Abraham Accords after signing ceremony took place at White House
It will be difficult for Sudan to publicly demonstrate the African country's diplomatic breakthrough with Israel until there is a White House signing ceremony, a senior official told Israeli pubcaster Kan.
The diplomat was explaining Sudan's absence from last week's events celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Abraham Accords that normalized relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, with the later additions of Sudan and Morocco.
Muslim majority Kosovo agreed to recognize Israel as part of a separate US-brokered deal that also included Serbia moving its embassy to Jerusalem.

Quarantined Israelis began receiving text messages on Sunday from the police for option to give location
Tens of thousands of quarantined people on Sunday received a text message from the Israel Police with a link to provide their GPS location for the purpose of tracking them during the self-isolation period, according to a statement from the Public Security Ministry.
The tracking system — developed by the Israel Police with the assistance of the Public Security Ministry — was expanded after the successful completion of a pilot program in recent weeks.

A Tel Aviv lab has equipped good bacteria with “poisoned arrows,” which they fire at bad bacteria, dealing them a fatal blow.
“We have built an antibacterial weapon that enables ‘good’ bacteria to attack bad bacteria with toxins and neutralize them,” Dr. Dor Salomon, the lead researcher of the Tel Aviv University project, told The Times of Israel.
His team at the Department of Clinical Biology and Immunology has published an article about its success, in lab conditions, in the peer-reviewed journal EMBO Reports.

Four space tourists ended their trailblazing trip to orbit Saturday with a splashdown in the Atlantic off the Florida coast.

Police vastly outnumbered protesters around the U.S. Capitol on Saturday at a rally by supporters of the people who breached the building Jan. 6, trying to overturn former President Donald Trump’s election defeat.
Hundreds of officers patrolled the Capitol grounds and a black eight-foot-high fence which surrounded the white-domed building for about six months after the attack was reinstalled in anticipation of the event. Instagram has blocked the hashtag “natural immunity” over concerns of misinformation, reports the MetroUK.
However, Facebook, the owner of Instagram, has not removed the hashtag.
Before the ban, uses of #naturalimmunity coincided with notions relating to a scientific study conducted out of Israel. The paper concludes that “natural immunity confers longer-lasting and stronger protection against infection, symptomatic disease and hospitalization caused by the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, compared to the BNT162b2 two-dose vaccine-induced immunity.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Sunday criticized spending plans from Democrats as a “redistribution of wealth” that in total would cost “the amount of money we spent to win World War II.”
In an interview with radio host John Catsimatidis, reported in advance by The Hill, McCarthy said the $1 trillion Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure bill and $3.5 trillion social spending plan would also create “greater inflation.”would total “the amount of money we spent to win World War II.”

A New Jersey middle school was forced to hold virtual classes on Friday after several students contracted COVID-19 while celebrating the bar mitzvah of former Gov. Chris Christie‘s nephew.
The event involving the 13-year-old son of Todd and Andrea Christie took place last weekend and school officials learned late Thursday night that it led to an outbreak, Mendham Township schools Superintendent Salvatore Constantino said.

New York Rep. Lee Zeldin was reported as having cancer, according to The New York Times’ Washington correspondent Maggie Haberman.
Haberman tweeted Saturday that Rep. “ZELDIN, congressman and NY gubernatorial candidate, told Ontario County GOP dinner last night that he’s been battling cancer, he confirms to me. He says he had a leukemia diagnoses last November and has been receiving treatment since soon after.”
The 41-year-old congressman told Newsday that he was diagnosed and being treated for cancer. Zeldin describes the cancer as an early-stage chronic myeloid leukemia.

Eight young people aged 35-40, unvaccinated and most of them without risk factors, are connected to ECMO machine, and are hospitalized in critical condition after contracting COVID-19, Kan 11 News reported on Saturday night.
Senior Ministry of Health officials are concerned about the increase in the number of young people who are hospitalized in critical condition with COVID-19, and say that the data support the belief that the Delta strain of the virus is more violent.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health published new data on Saturday night showing an increase in the number of patients in serious condition, and their number stands at 717, of whom 195 are on ventilators.

Capitalism has not served the U.S. economy as well as it could have, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Friday, saying the system needed to be improved.
“In America, capitalism is our system, it is our economic system, but it has not served our economy as well as it should,” she told a Chatham House event. “So what we want to do is not depart from that, but to improve it.”

HaAzinu marks the final time in the Torah where Hashem foretells the future generations of Klal Yisroel after they enter Eretz Yisroel. Indeed, some M’phorshim understand that HaAzinu contains detailed allusions to everything that will happen to the Jewish people. After predicting that there would be many years of peace and plenty, the Torah warns that B’nei Yisroel will become “fat”. (HaAzinu 32:15) Inevitably, we would then enjoy our blessings and forget from where they come. Hashem then describes the calamities which would befall us as a result of our transgressions. New mandates could force millions of Americans to get the coronavirus vaccine. But exemptions may be available for those who have a medical condition or a sincerely held religious belief that prevents them from getting vaccinated. In our world of bureaucrats gone wild, what counts as a “sincerely held religious belief” is anything but simple.
A recent case, unrelated to the pandemic, illustrates the point. When an Amish community in Minnesota sought a religious exemption from state water control regulations, power-hungry bureaucrats denied the religious exemption, claiming that the group's religious beliefs were not sincerely held.
