Four space tourists ended their trailblazing trip to orbit Saturday with a splashdown in the Atlantic off the Florida coast. Their SpaceX capsule parachuted into the ocean just before sunset, not far from where their chartered flight began three days earlier. The all-amateur crew was the first to circle the world without a professional astronaut. The billionaire who paid undisclosed millions for the trip and his three guests wanted to show that ordinary people could blast into orbit by themselves, and SpaceX founder Elon Musk took them on as the company’s first rocket-riding tourists. SpaceX’s fully automated Dragon capsule reached an unusually high altitude of 363 miles (585 kilometers) after Wednesday night’s liftoff. Surpassing the International Space Station by 10...
Police vastly outnumbered protesters around the U.S. Capitol on Saturday at a rally by supporters of the people who breached the building Jan. 6, trying to overturn former President Donald Trump’s election defeat. Hundreds of officers patrolled the Capitol grounds and a black eight-foot-high fence which surrounded the white-domed building for about six months after the attack was reinstalled in anticipation of the event. One hundred National Guard troops were on standby and security officials were performing additional checks on travelers arriving at Washington’s nearest airport in an effort to prevent violence. A trickle of several dozen protesters arrived, some carrying the flags of the right-wing group Three Percenters over their shoulders, and far fewer than the several h...
Instagram has blocked the hashtag “natural immunity” over concerns of misinformation, reports the MetroUK. However, Facebook, the owner of Instagram, has not removed the hashtag. Before the ban,  uses of #naturalimmunity coincided with notions relating to a scientific study conducted out of Israel. The paper concludes that “natural immunity confers longer-lasting and stronger protection against infection, symptomatic disease and hospitalization caused by the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, compared to the BNT162b2 two-dose vaccine-induced immunity.” But the study also highlights, “individuals who were both previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 and given a single dose of the vaccine gained additional protection against the Delta variant.&rdquo...
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Sunday criticized spending plans from Democrats as a “redistribution of wealth” that in total would cost “the amount of money we spent to win World War II.” In an interview with radio host John Catsimatidis, reported in advance by The Hill, McCarthy said the $1 trillion Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure bill and $3.5 trillion social spending plan would also create “greater inflation.”would total “the amount of money we spent to win World War II.” “It’s redistribution of wealth, it will take money out of the economy, make America less competitive, especially for our competition around the world,” he said. “It’s a real concern.” The House i...
A New Jersey middle school was forced to hold virtual classes on Friday after several students contracted COVID-19 while celebrating the bar mitzvah of former Gov. Chris Christie‘s nephew. The event involving the 13-year-old son of Todd and Andrea Christie took place last weekend and school officials learned late Thursday night that it led to an outbreak, Mendham Township schools Superintendent Salvatore Constantino said. “There were, unfortunately, a few adult cases and a few student cases that came out of it,” Constantino told The Post. There were already “a few cases” at Mendham Township Middle School “and we couldn’t ensure a safe environment, so we thought it would be prudent for us to go virtual again on Friday,” Constantino sai...

He says he had a leukemia diagnoses last November and has been receiving treatment since soon after.” The 41-year-old congressman told Newsday that he was diagnosed and being treated for cancer. Zeldin describes the cancer as an early-stage chronic myeloid leukemia. Andrew Solender of Forbes, quoted Zeldin as saying, “I have achieved complete remission, am expected to live a normal life, and my doctor says I currently have no evi...

Capitalism has not served the U.S. economy as well as it could have, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Friday, saying the system needed to be improved. “In America, capitalism is our system, it is our economic system, but it has not served our economy as well as it should,” she told a Chatham House event. “So what we want to do is not depart from that, but to improve it.” “You cannot have a system where the success of some springs from the exploitation of the workers and springs from the exploitation of the environment and the rest, and we have to correct that.”
HaAzinu marks the final time in the Torah where Hashem foretells the future generations of Klal Yisroel after they enter Eretz Yisroel.  Indeed, some M’phorshim understand that HaAzinu contains detailed allusions to everything that will happen to the Jewish people.  After predicting that there would be many years of peace and plenty, the Torah warns that B’nei Yisroel will become “fat”. (HaAzinu 32:15) Inevitably, we would then enjoy our blessings and forget from where they come.  Hashem then describes the calamities which would befall us as a result of our transgressions. (32:22-26). Curiously, the Torah then tells us that Hashem will temper his wrath, so that our enemies do not question the existence and presence of Hashem.  (32:27) This same ...
New mandates could force millions of Americans to get the coronavirus vaccine. But exemptions may be available for those who have a medical condition or a sincerely held religious belief that prevents them from getting vaccinated. In our world of bureaucrats gone wild, what counts as a “sincerely held religious belief” is anything but simple. A recent case, unrelated to the pandemic, illustrates the point. When an Amish community in Minnesota sought a religious exemption from state water control regulations, power-hungry bureaucrats denied the religious exemption, claiming that the group's religious beliefs were not sincerely held. The Amish don’t live like most Americans. They deliberately lack the modern conveniences we enjoy. Our pop culture celeb...
He’ll take their word for it. The much-delayed law Mayor Bill de Blasio is banking on to stop future dangerous drivers before another child is tragically mowed down only requires the most dangerous drivers to “self-report” violations of the traffic safety laws after completing mandatory classes, The Post has learned. Contract documents for the $2.8 million pilot program require that potential providers only “[r]e-contact class participants in order to conduct self-reporting of behaviors 1-3 months after they take the class.” The Department of Transportation opted to only require the self-reporting even though the city bureaucracy already maintains an extensive and regularly updated database of driving scofflaws who blow past speed cameras or ...

The heretofore unseen, 'straight-out-of-science-fiction' device confounded investigators in Iran, NYT reports Last year's assassination of Iran's top nuclear scientist was carried out by Israel through a state-of-the-art remotely controlled "killer robot," according to a New York Times report published Saturday and based on interviews with American, Israeli and Iranian officials. Israel has never commented on the November 2020 killing of nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was dubbed in the media as "the number one target" of Israeli intelligence agency Mossad and the "mastermind of Iran's nuclear program." According to NYT, the brazen, daylight attack on a major road just outside the capital Tehran marked "the debut test of a high-tech, c...
However, Health Ministry statement praises FDA decision to approve booster for elderly, immunocompromised Unnamed Israeli health officials told local media they were concerned that Friday's vote by a panel of America's top health experts against fully approving booster shots of Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine to everyone aged 16 and over. The US Food and Drug Administration panel did, however, vote in favor of authorizing booster doses of the vaccine for everyone aged 65 and up, as well as people at high risk of developing severe Covid.  While an official statement by Israel's Health Ministry highlighted the latter decision as validating Israel's universal rollout of the third dose, a top official speaking to the Ynet news website on condition of a...

John T. Earnest, who killed one person and injured three others in an attack on a Poway synagogue in 2019, pleaded guilty Friday to federal hate crime charges, the US Justice Department said in a statement. In July, Earnest pleaded guilty to murder and other charges in the San Diego Superior Court, agreeing to a life sentence in state prison without the possibility of parole in exchange for avoiding the death penalty, the Associated Press reported at the time. He is expected to appear at the San Diego court in two weeks for sentencing. According to the Justice Department, Earnest pleaded guilty to a 113-count hate crimes indictment, admitting that he set fire to an Escondido mosque and opened fire in a Poway synagogue because he wanted to kill Musl...

Complaints by Maryland drivers who claim they were overcharged for tolls are confirmed in a new state audit obtained by the 11 News I-Team. Because the state conducted limited research on the issues, auditors believe the scope of the problem is much bigger. Some drivers are just now learning they have been overcharged and they are fuming. "One particular day, they charged me $8. I questioned that, and she said they charged me for a triple-axle (vehicle). I have a sedan. Why am I paying for a triple-axle? It's absolutely ridiculous," said Fran Groves, of Dundalk. "(It's) very annoying, very aggravating because I don't have the time to do this every day, you know? I have a job. I have to be at work," said Evelyn Parks, a motorist. The statewide audit fo...
