The Pentagon said Friday it had canceled projects related to Donald Trump’s border wall and was returning money the former president directed to the project to defense programs.
“The Department of Defense is proceeding with canceling all border barrier construction projects paid for with funds originally intended for other military missions and functions such as schools for military children, overseas military construction projects in partner nations, and the National Guard and Reserve equipment account,” Jamal Brown, deputy Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.

At least 45 Israelis were crushed to death and another 150 were injured, 20 critically, during a stampede in Meron in northern Israel at around 1 a.m. on Friday during the annual mass festival for the holiday of Lag Ba’Omer. Last year, crowds were not allowed due to coronavirus restrictions.

Charedi journalist Aryeh Ehrlich warned three years ago about the Meron disaster - and is now beating his chest over not doing more to prevent it.
Ehrlich, who writes for Mishpacha, tweeted in 2018: "First call to order: The narrow exit path leading from the bonfire area of the Toldot Aharon hasidic group creates a human bottleneck and horrendous shoving, on the level of an actual danger of being crushed."
In that tweet, he emphasized that, "This is the only exit."
"If we want to prevent a repeat of what happened at Rabbi Wosner's funeral - we cannot hold the bonfire lighting at this place before we create a wide exit with signage."

We all expected President Biden to speak about hate in America during his first address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night.
He did not disappoint.
He talked about the murder of George Floyd, systemic racism, and white supremacy. He mentioned attacks upon Blacks, Native Americans, and women. He celebrated a hate crimes act to protect Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
This past weekend, in fact, provided Biden with an additional reason to discuss hate in America. Beginning Thursday night and proceeding through the weekend, four different synagogues and three vehicles were vandalized in a Jewish neighborhood in the Bronx. All were damaged in precisely the same way: smashed windows.

"This is a DANGEROUS situation," the National Weather Service warned Friday.
A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Anne Arundel, Charles and Prince George's counties until 5:45 p.m. It comes after severe storms roll through the Washington metro area Friday night.

An Israeli police official who oversaw the security arrangements for the massive religious celebration where 45 people were killed in a stampede on Friday said he took responsibility for the disaster, according to a report.
“I bear overall responsibility, for better or worse, and am ready for any investigation,” Shimon Lavi, commander of the Northern District, told reporters hours after the tragedy, the Times of Israel reported.
Eyewitnesses accused police of blocking a key exit route at the bottom of a narrow passageway, which had for years been seen as a dangerous potential bottleneck, but Lavi said the exact cause of the tragedy is under investigation.

The Biden administration will restrict travel from India beginning Tuesday the White House said Friday, as concerns mount over a record surge in coronavirus cases there.
“On the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Administration will restrict travel from India starting immediately,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said. “The policy will be implemented in light of extraordinarily high Covid-19 caseloads and multiple variants circulating in India.”

The U.S. Supreme Court has sided with an illegal immigrant from Guatemala fighting his deportation by immigration authorities in a 6-3 decision authored by Justice Neil Gorsuch that “focused on a single word,” ABC News reports.
Agusto Niz-Chavez brought the case after the government initiated deportation proceedings against him in 2013, about eight years after he first crossed the border into the U.S. in 2005. The government sent two notices, the first alerting him to the charges against him and the second giving the date and time of his court appointment.

The University of Connecticut has arrested a suspect for allegedly spray-painting a swastika on the side of a building across from Hillel.
University of Connecticut (UConn) police have arrested a student for allegedly spray painting anti-Semitic graffiti onto the side of a building, reported WFSB Eyewitness News 3.
Campus police were called in on March 27 to investigate a swastika spray painted on the UConn Chemistry Building across the street from UConn Hillel.
Police investigated using area security footage.
