President Biden on Thursday decried the epidemic of gun violence in America as an “international embarrassment” as he rolled out a series of executive actions intended to address the issue.
“Nothing I’m about to recommend in any way impinges on the Second Amendment,” Biden said in the Rose Garden. “They’re phony arguments suggesting these are Second Amendment rights at stake with what we’re talking about. But no amendment, no amendment to the Constitution is absolute.”

Twitter will not allow an archive of former President Trump’s @realDonaldTrump account on its platform.
A Twitter spokesperson told The Hill that the platform has been working with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) on preserving tweets from the account, as they’ve done in the past with government Twitter accounts.
However, content from the account will not appear on the platform itself.

In the waning days of the General Assembly session, police reform and COVID-19 are hot topics. In Maryland alone, 3.2 million coronavirus vaccines have been administered as of Wednesday, and police reform laws have received another layer of approval from lawmakers.
Gov. Larry Hogan said Thursday that even though he is interested in “some reasonable reforms" to policing, the final package that emerged from talks between the Senate and the House is a nonstarter.

Nearly 19,000 unaccompanied children were encountered in March, the highest recorded.
Border officials encountered 172,000 migrants at the border in March, a 71% increase from February and the latest indicator of the extent of the crisis at the southern border -- but one that Biden officials are trying to blame on the Trump administration.
Of the 172,000 migrants encountered, the majority were single adults, and included 18,890 unaccompanied children -- a 100% increase from the already high numbers encountered in February, and the highest number recorded. In February, 100,441 migrants overall were encountered.

On Thursday, as Israel commemorated its Holocaust Remembrance Day, the UAE embassy to the Jewish state took to Twitter to deliver its own message on the somber occasion.
"We share our condolences to the victims of the Holocaust," the embassy said in Hebrew, English and Arabic, adding that "in their memory, the UAE affirms that the human values on which it was founded will remain firm."

On the eve of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), hundreds of girls in the Nifgashot workshop interviewed, together with me, Holocaust historian Esther Farbstein. Her remarks included the following:On being an adolescent during the Holocaust: "I was privileged to publish the diary of teenager Rivka Lifshitz, decades after it was written. From the ghetto, Rivka wrote to herself: 'The content of my life I cannot change, but I can change the tune.' This is a beautiful message and an important thought for us today as well. Sometimes things happen that we cannot control, but we can always determine the attitude we wish to adopt, the atmosphere we wish to create, and the tune we wish to sing."

Sirens mark two-minute moment of silence, briefly halting all of Israel's public life for moment of reflection
Air raid sirens wailed across Israel on Thursday morning, bringing the country to a two-minutes standstill.

The sirens are an annual tradition for Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day, which the country began commemorating on Wednesday.
They mark a two-minute stop for all public activity, with people stopping whatever they were doing and standing in place with their heads bowed.
The sirens will wail again twice in the coming days -- on April 13 evening and April 14 morning, when Israel will be honoring the memory of its fallen soldiers and victims of terrorisms.

World powers are currently holding talks with the Islamic Republic in the Austrian capital of Vienna
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Wednesday that a renegotiated nuclear deal between world powers and Iran will not stop the Jewish state from protecting itself from malign regimes seeking its destruction.
While delivering remarks at Israel’s official Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony in Jerusalem, Netanyahu highlighted the threat his government says a revitalized nuclear deal will pose to Israel.
“A deal with Iran that threatens us with annihilation will not obligate us,” Netanyahu declared.
