The Biden administration has distributed more than 150 million stimulus checks as of Wednesday from the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill.
The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service have sent out roughly 156 million payments to people, totaling roughly $372 billion, according to the Treasury Department.
The majority of these latest payments went to Social Security recipients and beneficiaries, providing a cash infusion more than a year into the pandemic.

The world’s Jewish population has returned to the level of nearly a century ago, according to new research published by Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.
Released ahead of Thursday’s observance of Yom Hashoah, Israel’s annual Holocaust commemoration day, the study revealed that at the end of 2019, the global Jewish population stood at 14.8 million — the same number recorded in 1925, more than a decade before the Nazi Holocaust began.

Canadian federal court has rejected Nazi death squad member Helmut Oberlander's request to permanently end his deportation proceedings.
A federal court in Canada has rejected a request by Helmut Oberlander, a 97-year old former Nazi death squad member to have his deportation proceedings permanently ended.
Oberlander’s lawyer had earlier in the year filed a motion to postpone a hearing that would have deported him from Canada.

UK stops providing AstaZeneca vaccine to people under 30 after EMA says vaccine has rare blood clot side effect.
The AstaZeneca coronavirus vaccine was found to cause rare blood clots, the European Medicines Agency ruled Wednesday.
EMA Executive Director Emer Cooke stated that this finding does not mean that the vaccine should not be used, as the side effect is extremely rare: "I want to start by stating that our safety committee the pharmacovigilance risk assessment committee of the European Medicines Agency has confirmed that the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine in preventing COVID19 overall outweigh the risks of side effects.”

A top Health Ministry official warned on Wednesday that Israel is still "in the middle of the battle" against the coronavirus pandemic as she urged members of the public to remain vigilant despite the country's successful vaccination campaign.
Speaking to the Ynet site, Israel's top public health expert Sharon Alroy-Preis argued that "many external threats" still remain that could develop and destroy the progress Israel has made over the last several months.

Longitudinal study finds that early life trauma can negatively impact long-term health outlook
A recently published long-term study has shown that the effects of psychological and physical trauma can have echoes and repercussions even decades after the events themselves.
Dr Iaroslav Youssim and Dr Hagit Hochner of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem's School of Public Health led the study, which was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology and investigated mortality rates from specific diseases over the course of many years among Israel-based Holocaust survivors.

Israel is set to commemorate the victims of the Nazi regime on Holocaust Remembrance Day on Wednesday and Thursday.

Holocaust survivors forced to give up on items of necessity to be able to buy food
Holocaust survivors living in Israel are struggling to get by, a poll released on Wednesday by the Holocaust Survivors’ Welfare Fund reveals.
According to the fund, 51 percent of respondents said they had to rely on food handouts from various non-profits.
Over 30 percent described their need for such supplies as "dire."

In Forbes latest billionaires list, German-born Israeli businessman Stefan Wertheimer appears as the country's richest individual with a personal fortune of $6.2 billion. However, that amount only ranks him 432nd on the list.
There were three individuals with Israeli citizenship with wealth greater than Wertheimer's - Eyal Ofer ($11.1 billion), Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich ($14.5 billion) and Patrick Drahi ($11.8 billion) - however, they are not currently listed as resident in the country.

Many years ago I had the privilege to spend some time in the Zilberman school in Jerusalem's Old City. The Zilberman "method" is a unique system of education implemented throughout many schools worldwide. Tucked within the walls of the Jewish quarter sits their flagship elementary school, run by the sons of Rav Zilberman, Z"L. I spent 2 weeks there observing the classes, learning the method of teaching and consulting with the educators. During one recess, I witnessed an incident so beautiful that it is etched in my memory for time immemorial. Maheer Ibrahim, the head nurse of Afula's Ha'emek Medical Center's coronavirus ward, on Tuesday was informed by the Culture Ministry that he was chosen to light an Independence Day torch at the ceremony marking Israel's 73rd birthday.
