A bipartisan group of more than a dozen lawmakers on Wednesday introduced a bill banning members of Congress and senior staff from buying and selling stocks, most bonds and options contracts. Called the Ban Conflicted Trading Act, the measure is intended to prevent lawmakers and high-level staffers from enriching themselves through trades based on potentially market-moving information. Lawmakers and senior staffers are already banned from making investment decisions based on nonpublic data obtained through their positions by the STOCK Act, a law signed by former President Obama. The practice of insider trading is also illegal under several federal securities laws. When Israel's worst environmental disaster in recent years threatened the lives of thousands of sea creatures along the shoreline, In a special initiative by the IDF’s Nature Defense Forces and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, thousands of IDF soldiers have mobilized to aid in the cleanup and joined the effort to repair the damage including a group of Special in Uniform volunteers. In February a large oil tanker accidentally ejected oil along Israel's shores tossing tar along the beaches and causing Israeli environmentalists to immediately sound the red alarm.  The oil spill, which was hailed as Israeli's worst environmental disaster in recent years polluted Israel's shoreline and posed an immediate danger to all wildlife in the area. Administration officials instead offered a briefing for Senate aides Tuesday, which Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) told Politico he attended to get some semblance of justification for the strike from Biden’s team. It happened as he drew near the camp and saw the Calf and the dancing, that Moshe’s anger flared up.  He threw down the Tablets from his hands and shattered them at the foot of the mountain. (Shemot 32:19) The thoughts Moshe must have thought when he came down that great mountainside!  After encountering God face to face, after receiving the Torah and then to encounter… this!  Witnessing the utter depravation of the people… it is unimaginable the ache that must have twisted Moshe’s stomach!  Reacting to what was before him, what choice did he have?  There was only one appropriate response to the shameful degradation of this people… to destroy the gift he had carried down the mountain to them; to shatter the Luchot! According to th...
It’s the latest case of vaccine alarmism. Many Americans are worried that Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine is an inferior product that may not be worth getting. Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota recently told The Washington Post that he was now seeing not only “vaccine hesitancy” but also “the potential for brand hesitancy.” The perception stems from the headline rates of effectiveness of the three vaccines: 72 percent for Johnson & Johnson, compared with 94 percent for Moderna and 95 percent for Pfizer. But those headline rates can be misleading in a few ways. The most important measure — whether the vaccine prevents serious illness — shows the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to be...
One of the big topics in Maryland is getting attention on the federal level as well: Vaccine equity and access. Maryland health officials said the state would be ramping up the number of shots given at the state's mass vaccination sites. But volume alone will not solve the state's problem of COVID-19 vaccine equity and access, community leaders said Wednesday. U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Maryland, held a virtual roundtable, in which he said economic help is on the way. He told community leaders and advocates that help is on the way in the stimulus bill that passed the House. He said the bill includes more money for vaccines and vaccine distribution. Van Hollen highlighted a White House promise that more federal vaccines will be flowing directly into ...

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has called the EU vaccine rollout too slow amid the urgent health crisis The Elysee Palace criticized Denmark and Austria on Thursday for planning an alliance with Israel regarding the development of anti-COVID vaccines, believing that cooperation between EU members is the best way to tackle the crisis.  "Our conviction remains very clear that the most effective solution to meet vaccination needs must continue to be based on the European framework," a spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "It is indeed he who guarantees our collective effectiveness and solidarity between the member states, which is more essential than ever," the spokesperson added.  Both Austria and Denmark have expressed frustration o...

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A package of police reform measures in Maryland with a statewide standard for use of force, expanded use of body cameras and greater public access to police misconduct records passed the state Senate on Wednesday. A repeal of police job protections in a statewide disciplinary process that critics say have shielded authorities from responsibility in police brutality cases also was among the nine separate measures. Police reform has been a top issue for Maryland lawmakers after the death of George Floyd in Minnesota last year and the nationwide protests that followed. Supporters described the package as a substantial step forward in addressing challenging policing issues, even if provisions didn’t always go as far as they wanted. Join BJL on WhatsApp Stat...
The House passed a sweeping election reform and voting rights bill along party lines on Wednesday in a 220-210 vote. The For The People Act, better known as H.R. 1 — has been a top priority for Democrats, who argue restoring voters’ faith in the electoral process is more important than ever after former President Trump repeatedly asserted unfounded claims the election was stolen. JERUSALEM (JNS) – Ninety percent of Israelis over the age of 50 have been vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19, said Israeli health minister Yuli Edelstein on Wednesday. Seventy-five percent are eligible for a “Green Pass,” noted Edelstein, meaning that they received their second vaccine more than a week ago, or have recovered from the virus and have antibodies. He continued to urge all Israelis to “follow the guidelines.” One month ago on Feb. 3, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed a “national goal” of vaccinating at least 90 percent of the over-50 age group, saying this would be the key to successfully exiting the lockdown. At that time, 77 percent of those aged 50 or over had been vaccinated. Join BJL on WhatsApp Status:...
Baltimore, MD - Mar. 3, 2021: Dear BJL, The Purim baskets and gift boxes that we received from the various local community institutions were all so creative, delicious and beautiful. What impressed me the most, however, were the groups that went out of their way to support our own local businesses and food providers. Supporting our own is not a suggestion - it is our responsibility and am so proud to live in a community that recognizes this - walks the walk and talks the talk. Kol Hakovod! Sarah Spero
