The last time the governor provided an update on the state's vaccine plan was Jan. 6, when there were changes made to the state's COVID-19 vaccine distribution phases.
As of Wednesday, Maryland Department of Health data indicated 164,907 first doses have been administered and 12,704 second doses have been administered in the state to date. Read more at WBALTV

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Wednesday that starting next week, lawmakers will face hefty fines if they refuse to go through newly installed metal detectors to enter the House chamber.
Pelosi said that the House will adopt new rules when it returns to session on Jan. 21 to mandate stiff fines for bypassing security: $5,000 for the first offense and $10,000 for the second. The fines will be deducted from lawmakers' salaries.

Major labor unions on Wednesday urged Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and incoming Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) to provide $1 trillion in emergency funding for states, cities, towns and schools.

A trove of U.S. government documents on UFOs has been compiled for download on a website by an author and podcaster who has spent years researching the topic, adding a recent release of items before it was to be formally presented to Congress.
John Greenwald Jr., author of the 2019 release “Inside the Black Vault: The Government’s UFO Secrets Revealed,” has gathered the documents through a series of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and, in mid-2020, purchased a CIA-produced CD-ROM disk of what the agency says is its comprehensive collection of documents on the matter.

Rick Snyder, the former governor of Michigan who oversaw the state when a water crisis devastated the city of Flint, has been charged with two counts of willful neglect of duty, according to court records.

Upcoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., was compared to Adolf Hitler by a heckler during a Tuesday press conference.
Schumer’s message during the media gathering in Manhattan centered on asking the Transportation Security Administration to add last week’s Capitol rioters to the agency’s no-fly list. Near the end of Schumer’s statement, a mask-wearing woman stepped in front of the podium and hurled insults at the lawmaker, the New York Post reported.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey spoke out Wednesday about his company's decision last week to ban President Trump from its platform.
"I do not celebrate or feel pride in our having to ban @realDonaldTrump, or how we got here," Dorsey began a lengthy Twitter thread. "After a clear warning we’d take this action, we made a decision with the best information we had based on threats to physical safety both on and off Twitter. Was this correct?
"I believe this was the right decision for Twitter," Dorsey continued. "We faced an extraordinary and untenable circumstance, forcing us to focus all of our actions on public safety. Offline harm as a result of online speech is demonstrably real, and what drives our policy and enforcement above all.

Israel's Foreign Ministry announced the first visa waiver between the Jewish state and an Arab country
Israel’s Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday that the United Arab Emirates has ratified the visa exemption agreement between the two countries, the first between the Jewish state and an Arab country, according to The Times of Israel (TOI).
The deal will go into effect in 30 days, according to the Foreign Ministry.
