Israel's Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi, Rabbi David Lau, on Wednesday participated in a Zoom meeting of the Knesset's Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee regarding the coronavirus restrictions for synagogues. According to him, there is no logic in placing the same restrictions on a synagogue with 300 seats as on smaller synagogues. "I turned to them and requested," he said. "I am really asking them to pay attention: You cannot compare a synagogue with 20 seats, where a ten-person limit is logical, to a synagogue with 300 seats, where there is no logic in the restriction." "I can't say if there is a place in Israel where the guidelines are kept like they are in the vast majority of synagogues in Israel. Ten people in the men's section, and when there is an eleventh, he ...

Is Real Nechama Possible Today? from Tzvi Goode on Vimeo.

President Trump’s campaign manager said Monday that he wants “more debates” between the president and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden – and he wants them to begin sooner rather than later. In an interview with Fox News’s “Fox & Friends,”  Bill Stepien voiced concern that the current debate schedule, which begins on Sept. 29, won’t give early voters in several states a chance to see the two candidates go head-to-head before ballots are cast. “We want more debates. We want debates starting sooner,” Stepien, who was named Trump’s new campaign manager last month, said. “First debate is scheduled for Sept. 29, by that time 16 states already will have voted, by Sept. 29. That’s a concern t...
City officials ignored their own application process for public art projects to paint Black Lives Matter murals around the five boroughs, in order to mark an important moment in history, Mayor Bill de Blasio said as his administration faces claims of First Amendment violations for refusing to green-light other proposals. “We haven’t said ‘no’ to people, we’ve said, ‘If you want to apply, you can apply, but there’s a process,’” de Blasio said during his City Hall press briefing Monday. The pro-President Trump group Women for America First has sued City Hall for blocking a mural of their slogan “Engaging, Inspiring and Empowering Women to Make a Difference!” on a Manhattan roadway, while allowing multiple BLM paint...

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the issue of Israel applying sovereignty to parts of Judea and Samaria remains on the table. “The issue of applying sovereignty is in Washington … it’s not off the table; the option still exists,” Netanyahu told party members at a Likud faction meeting. Under the parameters of the Trump administration’s Middle East peace plan and Israel’s coalition agreement, Netanyahu had declared that starting on July 1, he could move to apply sovereignty to what is commonly referred to as the West Bank. But there has been little movement on the issue since. It also remains unclear whether or not the United States will support any move by Israel to apply sovereignty. Trump is in the middle of a tough re-election c...
Landon Fuller’s parents believe social isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic contributed to the suicidal thoughts leading to his death. “I think the big question we all have is why, and we will never know the reason why,” said his mother. “The only thing that I was able to find was in his journal was that he had wrote that he was going mad from staying at home all the time and that he just wanted to be able to go to school and play outside with his friends. So that was the only thing that I can imagine what was going through his head at that time. If I had read that before, I wouldn’t have thought that he was planning on taking his own life because I think we’re all feeling a little crazy right now.” The Fullers have taken the opportunity to ...

U.S. equity markets closed higher Tuesday as Congressional talks on coronavirus relief measures were underway. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told reporters that lawmakers “hope to make some progress" as he made his way into the meetings late afternoon. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained more than 165 points, or 0.62 percent, and the S&P 500 gained 0.36 percent. The tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 0.35 percent and secured another record for the 30th time this year and 156th time under President Trump. Democrats and Republicans "remain far apart on a number of issues. In light of threats from Hezbollah to retaliate over the death of one of its members in Syria last week, the Israel Defense Force has sent reinforcements to its northern border including advanced fire capabilities, intelligence collection systems and special operational units. But so far, instead of any actual fighting, Israel and Hezbollah are engaged in a game of theatrics and psychological warfare. On July 27, according to media reports, a Hezbollah terrorist cell crossed the blue line border a few meters into Israeli-controlled territory in the Shebaa Farm region, where it was repelled by Israeli troops, who purposely avoided killing them so as to avoid deterioration into heavier conflict. But according to most analysts, this was not Hezbollah’s official response and a more sev...
