Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) called on Baltimore officials to "regain control of their own streets" after protesters toppled a statue of Christopher Columbus in the city over the weekend. "While we welcome peaceful protests and constructive dialogue on whether and how to put certain monuments in context or move them to museums or storage through a legal process, lawlessness, vandalism and destruction of public property are completely unacceptable," Hogan said in a statement Sunday. "That is the antithesis of democracy and should be condemned by everyone, regardless of their politics. Baltimore City leaders need to regain control of their own streets and immediately start making them safer," Hogan added.
It was a rainy first of July in Berlin, and a protest was expected outside of the Reichstag, Germany’s historic house of parliament (Bundestag) with its famously post-war transparent dome above the parliament that tourists can alight for a view of the capital and of modern Germany’s democracy in action. For the handful of protesters on the wet stone near the neo-Baroque edifice, it was a day of shame for Germany democracy. An hour later, the “grand coalition” consisting of the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democrats (SDP), along with the Free Democrats (FdP) from the opposition, would vote on a non-binding resolution to condemn Israel over plans to extend sovereignty over Israeli-controlled areas in the West Bank/Judea a...

Thousands of police officers were deployed across Israel on Sunday as coronavirus cases continue to rise, threatening to undo weeks of efforts to contain the spread of the deadly disease. Israel Police released a statement which said that officers would be deployed to multiple command posts set up around the country to enforce coronavirus restrictions that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced last week. Due to the increase of the spread of coronavirus across the country, the police statement reads, “it was decided that a task force of eight command posts will be specifically involved in implementing health and safety rules and regulations on public transport, public areas, restaurants.” Israel’s police forces will also confirm that people who have...

Israel is in the midst of a renewed, “very strong” resurgence of COVID-19 that will see “an increase and a doubling of the number of severe cases,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the start of Sunday’s weekly Cabinet meeting. “The World Health Organization has marked the Middle East as a focus of the global spread. This is not passing over Israel. It is here,” said Netanyahu, who added that the new outbreak posed a challenge for the state of Israel and its health system. Four Israelis died of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the country’s death toll since the start of the pandemic to 330, according to the Israeli Health Ministry. According to ministry data, there were 804 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours, bringing ...

Israel is a world leader in digitization, cyber and medical technology, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Deputy Secretary General Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen said on Sunday. Speaking at an online conference hosted by The Jerusalem Post/Maariv group marking 10 years since Israel joined the OECD, Knudsen said, “The Israeli level of development and digitization is twice that of other OECD countries.” The Jewish state contributes a great deal to the world’s knowledge and has a “very strong foundation” for future growth, said Knudsen. “Israel has one of the highest levels in internet accessibility for children up to age six. Israel has a lot of information in the field of network security, and it contributes a lot to our knowledge...
BALTIMORE — We know turtles have a reputation for being a tad slow-moving, but would that change if one has a custom Lego wheelchair attached to it?  The zoo fastened a custom Lego wheelchair on an Eastern box turtle that was injured in the summer of 2018, and today the turtle has been released to its natural habitat after healing thanks to the new ride.  In July of 2018, the turtle was found in Druid Hill Park with several fractures along the bottom of his shell that made it hard for him to move.  Dr. Ellen Bronson is the senior director of animal health, conservation, and research at the zoo. She said the placement of the fractures was unique and wouldn't allow for usual healing methods to work, meaning the team had to get creative. "He h...
Kimberly Reese has never visited Ghana, but she is already designing her dream home there. The Ohio mother of five says she doesn’t feel safe in the United States. “Some of us are tired,” said Reese. “Some of us just want to be in an environment where we don’t have to look over our shoulders. Where we don’t have to worry about our sons getting pulled over.” She’d rather focus on floor plans some 6,000 miles away. As the United States again confronts its history of racism, as outrage again erupts over police killings, leaders in Ghana say they’re rolling out the welcome mat for black Americans who want to get away from the turmoil. The government has negotiated with local chiefs to earmark 500 acres of land near the nation’s ce...
Iran will retaliate against any country that carries out cyber attacks on its nuclear sites, the head of civilian defense said, after a fire at its Natanz plant which some Iranian officials said may have been caused by cyber sabotage. The Natanz uranium-enrichment site, much of which is underground, is one of several Iranian facilities monitored by inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN nuclear watchdog. Iran‘s top security body said on Friday that the cause of the “incident” at the nuclear site had been determined, but “due to security considerations” it would be announced at a convenient time. Iran‘s Atomic Energy Organization initially reported an “incident” had occurred early on Thursday at Natanz, located ...
U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams on Friday suggested a current flat death rate in states seeing a troubling rise in coronavirus cases could be misleading. In remarks on “Fox & Friends” Friday, Adams warned: “We know deaths lag at least two weeks and can lag even more.” “In the beginning, nursing homes were hit really hard, and the majority of our deaths were occurring on people who were 60, 65 and older,” he said. “Now the majority of cases are in people who have an average age of 35, and so those folks are gonna have less comorbidities, they’re gonna be less likely to end up in the hospital and to die.” Read more at NEWSMAX.
The Feds are looking into possible campaign finance misdeeds by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff and lead rainmaker, who suddenly resigned Friday, federal sources told The Post. The inquiry centers on two political action committees founded by Saikat Chakrabarti, the top aide who quit along with Ocasio-Cortez spokesman Corbin Trent, the sources said. Trent left to join the congresswoman’s 2020 re-election campaign. The brash Chakrabarti, who masterminded Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign and steered her proposed Green New Deal, had caused uproar in the halls of Congress with a series of combative tweets that contributed to a rift between his rookie boss and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “People were not happy that he used his Twitter account to comment about members ...
