Congress can seek eight years of President Donald Trump’s business records from his accounting firm, a federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., ruled Friday in one of several legal battles over access to the president’s financial data.
In a 2-1 ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit upheld Congress’ broad investigative powers and rejected the president’s bid to block lawmakers from subpoenaing the documents.
The case is one of several clashes between the Democrat-controlled House and the Republican president over Trump’s data that is expected to reach the Supreme Court. A team of four Israeli heart specialists traveled to a hospital in Cyprus with life-saving technology to save a woman who was suffering cardiac issues following childbirth, the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer revealed on Facebook on Sunday.
The Medical Center said a 29-year-old woman from Nicosia, Cyprus, suffered “a severe problem in her left main cardiac arterial region during the course of childbirth.”
Doctors at Nicosia Hospital were apparently “running out of time to save her life” since the medical facility lacked a life-saving Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine, which pumps and oxygenates a patient’s blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest.

Hillary Clinton told a PBS reporter that she could win against President Trump in a 2020 rematch after he mockingly urged her to run again.
“I think that Crooked Hillary Clinton should enter the race to try and steal it away from Uber Left Elizabeth Warren,” Trump said Tuesday on Twitter. “Only one condition. The Crooked one must explain all of her high crimes and misdemeanors including how & why she deleted 33,000 Emails AFTER getting ‘C’ Subpoena!”

Following Wednesday’s deadly attack outside a German synagogue, Israel’s UN envoy has called on the international community to “declare war on antisemitism.”Ambassador Danny Danon urged the president of the Security Council and the UN to “condemn the terrorist attack in Germany and take action against anti-Semitic terrorism.”
“The scourge of anti-Semitism is spreading in Europe, but threatens the entire world,” Danon said. “The international community must declare war on anti-Semitism and act firmly to end hatred of the Jewish people around the world. Jews should not have to look over their shoulders in fear for their lives during prayer.”

A man has reportedly confessed to killing two people near a synagogue in Halle, Germany, this week and expressed anti-Semitic and extreme right-wing views.
The man, identified as Stephan B., appeared before a judge in Karlsruhe, Germany’s, Federal Court of Justice, CNN reported Friday.
Markus Schmitt, press officer of the prosecutor at the court, was quoted as saying “Stephan B. has admitted to the accusations and specifically to his anti-Semitic as well as right-wing extremist motives,” by the news network.

The Israeli Airports Authority estimates incoming and outgoing traffic at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel’s holiday season at 2.4 million passengers, including 1.1 million Israelis spending the upcoming holidays overseas. This amounts to a quarter of the 4.6 million tourists who visited Israel during the entire past year. The ministry says that the contribution to the Israeli economy of the tourists who visited over the past year is $6.4 billion.

Rockland Developer Alexander Property Holdings has bought Spring Valley Marketplace for $59.3 million, RCBIZ Journal reports. The shopping center will allocate nearly 100,000 square feet to house a Bingo Wholesale, a kosher superstore that is a joint venture between the Brooklyn-based Marav USA and Osher Ad, a grocery chain with 20 stores in Israel.
Alexander purchased the property from the Long-Island based Millbrook Properties, which bought the center in 2007 for $58.5 million. Millbrook acquired the property from DLC Management Corp. of Tarrytown after a successful expansion and redevelopment of the property that then lifted its occupancy rate from 30% to 100%.

Police shut down a major Metro stop near the Capitol on Friday after a person was found stabbed.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, approached a station manager on the mezzanine level of the Capitol South Metro station and collapsed, said Dan Stessel, a Metro Transit police spokesman. Police do not have a suspect in custody yet, but are looking for a 14-year-old girl.
Metropolitan Police, Capitol Police, Metro Transit Police and medics are all on the scene.
Capitol South is the station frequented by aides who work on the House side of the U.S. Capitol. It's across the street from the Capitol Hill Club — a private Republican social club — and down the road from the Capitol and the three House office buildings.

We start off with perek 34, pasuk 6. “Hal’Hashem tigmilu zos. Am navel v’lo chacham.” And, the pasuk is talking about the Jewish people, and it’s berating them for being a foolish nation, and a not wise nation, and there’s something very odd that happens in the Targum Unkeles. Targum Unkeles says on the words, “Am navel”, “Ama d’kabila Oraisa v’lo chachimu.” It says: They are the nation that accepted the Torah, and they’re not smart. We are taught that in the merit of Avraham Avinu welcoming the three weary travelers to ‘set a spell’ under the shade of his tree, his descendants were blessed with the mitzva of Sukkah.
Imagine for a moment the backdrop of this story. Avraham was bleeding profusely and in debilitating pain. The bull he sought to prepare for his guests suddenly ran away and he went to chase it. The enticing aroma from the bread his wife Sara was preparing, was never served as it became impure due to discovering she was menstruant.
Despite all the erupting chaos they enter an island of tranquility as they recline beneath the cool shade of the tree.

Haazinu is usually read before Yom Kippur, except when there is a Shabbos between Yom Kippur and Succos, we read it then.
There is a halacha of reading brochos and klolos before Rosh Hashono. This is fulfilled by reading parshas Ki Savo, Nitzovim, and Vayelech—which talk about a bris and the consequences of keeping the bris or violating it.
Parshas Haazinu comes from a totally different angle. The pesukim look at Hashem’s perfect attributes of mishpot and rachamim. Hashem created a world that is complete and perfect and runs it in such a manner. We don’t always understand it and how it is just. Punishment always comes because we have failed in our mission, but after all the punishments we are guaranteed that we will survive.

HaAzinu marks the final time in the Torah where Hashem foretells the future generations of Klal Yisroel after they enter Eretz Yisroel. Indeed, some M’phorshim understand that HaAzinu contains detailed allusions to everything that will happen to the Jewish people. After predicting that there would be many years of peace and plenty, the Torah warns that B’nei Yisroel will become “fat”. (HaAzinu 32:15) Inevitably, we would then enjoy our blessings and forget from where they come. Hashem then describes the calamities which would befall us as a result of our transgressions. (32:22-26). Curiously, the Torah then tells us that Hashem will temper his wrath, so that our enemies do not question the existence and presence of Hashem. (32:27)

I used to pass the fellow each morning years ago as I walked up Broadway in lower Manhattan on my way to work. He would stand at the same spot and hold aloft, for the benefit of all passersby, one of several poster-board signs he had made. One read “I love you!” Another: “You are wonderful!”
He seemed fairly normal, well-groomed and decently dressed, and he smiled broadly as he offered his written expressions of ardor to each of us rushing to our respective workplaces. I never knew what had inspired his mission, but something about it bothered me.

Baltimore, MD - Oct. 11, 2019 - The Northwest Citizens Patrol has been receiving many expressions of appreciation for providing armed guards to patrol our neighborhoods on Shabbos and Yom Tov.
Using funds from a city grant, the NWCP employs two armed guards who patrol in very visible vehicles; one guard patrols in the Greenspring area and one in the Park Heights area. They are a noticeable presence and serve as a deterrent to would-be criminals and trouble-makers.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Two missiles struck an Iranian tanker traveling through the Red Sea off the coast of Saudi Arabia on Friday, Iranian officials said, the latest incident in the region amid months of heightened tensions between Tehran and the U.S.
There was no word from Saudi Arabia on the reported attack and Saudi officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Oil prices spiked by 2% on the news.

A woman in Portland, Ore., marked her 50th birthday last week by donating a kidney to a fellow Jewish mother.
Elissa Wald, a former resident of New York, was inspired to give her kidney to someone in need after hearing a speech from a rabbi.
She told The New York Post, “My dream was always to give a kidney to a young mother with a young child,” adding that she sometimes “lived in fear” of leaving her two children too early without a mom. She said, “My idea was to take someone out of that situation.”
Wald, who celebrated a birthday on Sept. 23, joked that when people asked what she was doing for her birthday, she responded: “I’m hoping to donate a kidney.”
