People who live in the building reportedly said they felt lightning strike.
PIKESVILLE, MD — A gas leak resulted in the evacuation of a residential building in Quarry Lake Monday night, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department. The gas leak was located in an attic space, officials reported.
By 8:40 p.m., officials said residents were returning to their homes, a little less than two hours after emergency personnel had been called to investigate.
Authorities said that the building in the 3000 block of Stone Cliff Drive was evacuated after an odor of gas was reported at 6:51 p.m. on Monday, July 22.
Witnesses told WMAR-2 that they thought a lightning strike caused the break.
Gas was shut off to the building while firefighters and BGE ensured all was safe.

LONDON (AP) — Britain’s governing Conservative Party is set to reveal Tuesday the identity of the country’s next prime minister, with Brexit hardliner Boris Johnson the strong favorite to get the job.

Party officials will announce whether Johnson or rival Jeremy Hunt has won a ballot of about 160,000 Conservative members.

Nineteen people have died from methanol poisoning in Costa Rica since June, the country’s Ministry of Heath said as it warns of alcohol tainted with dangerous levels of the chemical.
Authorities have confiscated about 30,000 containers of six different brands of alcohol in an effort to keep people from drinking contaminated products, the Ministry of Health said Friday. A notice the day before warned the public about products packaged under names like “Guaro Gran Apache,” “Red Star Brandy,” “Guaro Montano” and more.
The ministry issued a July 4 alert about the methanol issue only for drinks identified as “Guaro Montano,” but expanded its warnings after collecting samples of alcohol under several other names.

The Trump’s reelection campaign store has sold more than 140,000 plastic straws in just a few days, President Trump’s 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale tweeted Monday.
Parscale first promoted the plastic straws on Thursday in response to what the campaign website calls an alternative to “liberal plastic straws.”
“Liberal paper straws don’t work. STAND WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP and buy your pack of recyclable straws today,” reads the straws’ product description on the president’s campaign website.
Parscaled said sales of the red Trump-branded straws have eclipsed $200,000.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., called for a federal minimum wage of $20 per hour at an event in Detroit on Sunday night, prompting mockery from conservatives and threatening to force mainline Democrats in the 2020 presidential race to address the issue in upcoming debates.

A 21-year-old Palestinian Arab was neutralized by police officers in Hadera on Monday night after he tried to stab one of them.
The police reported that police officers who were on patrol had asked a suspect to identify himself, but he pulled out a knife and tried to stab one of them. Another officer from the force fired at the suspect’s lower body.
The Palestinian Arab, who is listed in moderate condition, was evacuated to the Hillel Yaffe Hospital after police sappers determined there were no explosive devices in the area.

New York - Millions of people who take aspirin to prevent a heart attack may need to rethink the pill-popping, Harvard researchers reported Monday.
A daily low-dose aspirin is recommended for people who have already had a heart attack or stroke and for those diagnosed with heart disease.
But for the otherwise healthy, that advice has been overturned. Guidelines released this year ruled out routine aspirin use for many older adults who don’t already have heart disease — and said it’s only for certain younger people under doctor’s orders.

Washington - President Donald Trump says a deal has been struck with congressional leaders on the budget and debt ceiling, mostly eliminating the threat of a repeat government shutdown this fall.
Trump tweets that the agreement is “a real compromise” and a victory for the nation’s military and veterans.
Aides say the deal would allow the government to continue to pay its bills and build upon recent budget gains for the Pentagon and domestic agencies.
Lawmakers were working to avert a first-ever default on U.S. payments and to set overall spending limits and prevent automatic spending cuts.
Trump says the deal contains no “poison pills.” But it comes as budget deficits are rising to $1 trillion levels.

New York - President Donald Trump insisted Monday that he wouldn’t be watching former special counsel Robert Mueller’s upcoming congressional testimony, then conceded he might watch “a little bit.”
Mueller, whose appearance on Capitol Hill has been anticipated for months, is expected to testify for at least five hours on Wednesday.
Trump told reporters at the White House he is “not going to be watching Mueller” and said Democrats running the hearing were “wasting their time.”
But he later added that “maybe I’ll see a little bit of it.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Microsoft is paying more than $25 million to settle federal corruption charges involving a bribery scheme in Hungary and other foreign offices.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said Microsoft will pay about $16.6 million to settle charges that it violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. While the case centered on Hungary, the SEC said it also found improprieties at Microsoft offices in Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Turkey.
The Justice Department said Microsoft will also pay an $8.75 million criminal fine stemming from the Hungarian bid-rigging and bribery scheme.

New York - An MSNBC contributor apologized and deleted a tweet that appeared to confuse readers about Fox News Channel’s plans to cover special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s testimony before Congress this week.
Joyce Vance, a former federal prosecutor, said Sunday on Twitter that Fox isn’t airing Mueller’s testimony because President Donald Trump is afraid of what will happen to his supporters if they heard Mueller.
But Fox is airing the testimony Wednesday, along with ABC, CBS , NBC and the cable news networks.
Vance tweeted later Sunday that while she meant it ironically, “my apologies to anyone I confused.”

Providence, RI - A Titanic survivor’s walking stick, with an electric light she used to signal for help from a lifeboat, sold for $62,500 at an auction of maritime items, the auction house said Monday.
Guernsey’s held the auction at the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport, Rhode Island, on Friday and Saturday. The top bid on Ella White’s cane was $50,000, plus the surcharge added by the auction house, Guernsey’s President Arlan Ettinger said.
Ettinger had expected it to sell for far more, with a pre-auction estimate of $300,000 to $500,000. He described it as one of the most extraordinary items to have survived the sinking.

New York - A man charged with killing a reputed New York mob boss was deluded by internet conspiracy theories and thought he was helping President Donald Trump defend Democracy, his attorney said in court papers filed Friday.
