Jerusalem - Mahmoud Saud, a Saudi law student and blogger who is part of an unprecedented six-person media delegation from the Arab world, was cursed, spat at, jeered and told to “go to a synagogue” on Monday as he went to the Temple Mount. One video clip showed Saud walking on the Temple Mount as people shouted epithets at him such as “traitor,” “animal” and “normalizer,” and small boys approached and spat in his face. Another video clip showed plastic chairs and sticks being thrown at him as he walked in the market in the Old City. Saud is the only member of the six-person delegation who was willing to go public, having agreed to be photographed in the Knesset with Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman Avi Dichter. Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg warned on Saturday that white supremacy almost led to the downfall of the United States in the past and could potentially do so again in the future. White supremacy “is the only issue that almost ended this country,” Buttigieg said during a weekend campaign event in Iowa, ABC News reported. “We’ve had a lot of challenges in this country, but the one that actually almost ended this country in the Civil War was white supremacy,” the South Bend, Indiana, mayor and Afghanistan veteran pointed out. “It could be the lurking issue that ends this country in the future, if we don’t wrangle it down in our time,” he cautioned. Analysis: The nation's two most populous states, California and Texas, are at the heart of Democrats' geography problem. In the wake of President Donald Trump's tweets suggesting several nonwhite progressive congresswomen "go back" to their countries — three of them were born in the U.S. — it's tempting for Democrats to believe the comments will backfire with an increasingly diverse electorate and seriously damage his re-election prospects. But the cold reality for Democrats? The bulk of the nation's demographic transformation is taking place in states that matter the least in deciding the Electoral College. Democrats' worst nightmare came true in November 2016 when Hillary Clinton captured 2.9 million more votes than Donald Trump but ...
Despite appearances, Iran is losing its struggle against the West and will eventually come back to the negotiating table, a top Israeli security analyst estimated on Sunday. Tensions in the Gulf have skyrocketed in recent days over the downing of an American drone by Iranian forces and the seizure of a British cargo ship, following the British seizure of an Iranian vessel near Gibraltar. In a column for Israeli news website Mako, veteran Israeli journalist Ehud Ya’ari said that “no one wants a war in the Persian Gulf,” including President Donald Trump, the Europeans, and the Arab states. However, he added, “Iran also has left no room for doubt that it has no desire to absorb military blows — it threatens to respond with force but not to initiate a deteriora...
President Donald Trump escalated his attacks Monday on a group of four minority congresswomen known as “the Squad,” calling them “very Racist” and “not very smart.” Trump’s assessment came in a tweet as his motorcade traveled from the White House to the Supreme Court to pay his respects to the late Justice John Paul Stevens, who died last week at age 99 and was lying in repose. It was the latest in a string of attacks directed at the four freshman lawmakers since a week ago Sunday, when Trump said they should “go back” to the “totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.” “The ‘Squad’ is a very Racist group of troublemakers who are young, inexperienced, and not very smart,” Trump ...
US researchers have found that electronic cigarettes, often targeted at youth and pregnant women, produce a stress response in brain stem cells. Present throughout life, stem cells become specialised cells with more specific functions, such as brain cells, blood cells, or bone. “Although originally introduced as safer, ECs, such as Vuse and JUUL, are not harmless,” said Atena Zahedi from the University of California. “Even short-term exposure can stress cells in a manner that may lead, with chronic use, to cell death or disease. Our observations are likely to pertain to any product containing nicotine,” Zahedi said. Read more.

The Novominsker Rebbe Shlit”a, Rosh Agudas Yisroel, marked this occasion by writing a special letter to the Daf Yomi Maggidei Shiur. “The celebration of The Siyum is credited to you – you, and those who attend your shiurim. All that is accomplished through The Siyum comes from your work, day in and day out, with your shiurim and harbotzas Torah.” The Siyum HaShas is Klal Yisroel’s celebration of seven-and-a-half years of the daily commitment to limud haTorah of the tens of thousands who learned the Daf. Morning, noon, and night, ...
President Donald Trump on Monday denied Iran’s claim that it dismantled an elaborate U.S. spy ring tasked with monitoring key military sites, dismissing the reports as “totally false” and “more lies and propaganda” from the Iranian government. Iran said that its intelligence forces identified and arrested 17 Iranians suspected of spying for the CIA and that some of them have been sentenced to death. The announcement comes amid soaring tensions between Iran and the West over Tehran’s nuclear program and its efforts to impede shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. “The Report of Iran capturing CIA spies is totally false. Zero truth. Just more lies and propaganda,” Trump said on Twitter. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who formerly se...
Oregon students will be allowed to take “mental health days” off from school, just as they would sick days, under a new bill signed by the governor. The bill would allow excused school absences for mental or behavioral health and is a victory for youth activists — who also unsuccessfully fought for gun control and lowering the voting age. The students behind the measure say it’s meant to change the stigma around mental health in a state that has some of the United States’ highest suicide rates. Read more at THE NY POST.

New York - Hoping to use the three week period of mourning over the destruction of the Bais Hamikdash to effect positive change, a Brooklyn resident is challenging the Jewish community to refrain from sharing information about others, a seemingly innocent pastime that can have significant negative repercussions. TWiSTED PARENTiNG’s Avi Fishoff, a respected voice in the world of at risk behavior, threw down the gauntlet on July 18th in a nearly eight minute long video that explained that he has heard from numerous people whose families were torn apart because of mistruths that were passed around as certainties. The close knit fabric of the Jewish community can often exacerbate the problem, said Fishoff. “We are a machine of information between shuls and bungalow colonies,&rdq...
Jerusalem - Israeli work crews on Monday began demolishing dozens of Palestinian homes in an east Jerusalem neighborhood, in one of the largest operations of its kind in years. The demolitions capped a years-long legal battle over the buildings, built along the invisible line straddling the city and the occupied West Bank. Israel says the buildings were erected too close to its West Bank separation barrier. Residents say the buildings are on West Bank land, and the Palestinian Authority gave them construction permits. In the wake of a recent Supreme Court decision clearing the way for the demolitions, Israeli work crews moved into the neighborhood overnight. Massive construction vehicles smashed through the roofs of several buildings, and large excavators were digging through the rubble....
New York - Robert Morgenthau, 99, who became the scourge of white-collar criminals over three decades as the Manhattan district attorney, died on Sunday, his family told the New York Times. He passed at a hospital in Manhattan, after a short illness, his wife Lucinda Franks told the Times. He would have turned 100 on July 31. His family was not immediately available for comment early Monday. Morgenthau became Manhattan’s chief prosecutor in 1975 and finally chose not to run for re-election in 2009 at age 90, ending a 35-year run during which he told the New York Times he oversaw 3.5 million cases. Preet Bharara, a former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said on Twitter late Sunday, “This is terribly sad. Robert Morgenthau, former SDNY US Attorne...
WASHINGTON (AP) — Equifax will pay up to $700 million to settle with the U.S. and states over a 2017 data breach that exposed Social Security numbers and other private information of nearly 150 million people. The settlement with the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission, as well as 48 states and the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, would provide up to $425 million in monetary relief to consumers, a $100 million civil money penalty, and other relief. The breach was one of the largest ever to threaten the private information. The consumer reporting agency, based in Atlanta, did not detect the attack for more than six weeks. The compromised data included Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, driver license numbers, credit...
“Slaughter the Jews” was spray painted on the Kotel HaKatan, a section of the Kosel located in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Yerushalayim. The vandalism took place on Saturday. The graffiti, written in Arabic, was covered with more red paint to hide its message. At least one Arab girl was arrested in connection with the incident. Read more at Arutz Sheva.
Since the turn of the century, more Americans have died in car crashes than did in both World Wars, and the overwhelming majority of the wrecks were caused by speeding, drunken or distracted drivers, according to government data. “Where’s the social outrage? There should be social outrage,” said Robert Sumwalt, chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board. By contrast, data shows that the opioid epidemic killed nearly 100,000 people between 2006 and 2012. During the same time frame, speeding, drunk and distracted driving caused 190,455 deaths. In automotive circles, it’s common to hear that 94 percent of car crashes are caused by human error, a fact provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and often used as a preamble when people dis...
